Theory.
In this Lab we are going to learn the working of the DC shunt motor and different
way of controlling the speed of the motor, also the supporting concept in the
behind of controlling the speed of a motor we also test their truth through the
experiments.
Task 1: Calculation of back-emf

Table.

Observation.
From the above readings we conclude the following concepts.
1. Input Voltage ∝ Speed of the motor
2. Now observe that the initial armature current is lower than that of the stable value of the
current this is only due to the increase of the back emf as we know that
I(armature current)=Es - Eo/R

3. Also Eo< Eo2 this only due to the increase of the back emf.
Task 2: Speed control using variable field resistance
In this experiment we will control the speed of the motor by the use of a variable
resistor connected in series with the shunt coil, in such away when the current is
decrease by varying the rheostat resistor we will control the magnetic flux that linked
with the coil or indirectly we are controlling the speed of the motor according to the
relation. N=60*Eo/Z*Φ.

Table

No. Supply Voltage Field Armature Speed

Eo(V) Current Current (rpm)
If(A) Ia(A)
1 50 0.083 0.083 701
2 50 0.082 0.082 715
3 50 0.078 0.078 715
4 50 0.074 0.074 716
5 50 0.069 0.069 717
6 50 0.061 0.061 720
From the above table we observed that when decreasing the field current the
magnetic flux decreases onward increases Speed of a motor.
Speed of a motor ∝ 1/Φ.
Task 3: Speed control using variable armature resistance
When the armature of the current decreases the speed of the motor is alternatively
decreases.

From this table we can predict that our experiment justify the truthiness of our
concept of a relation between Speed and Armature current.

Confusions.
Q1= how can the speed of a motor increases when flux increases?
According to the formula. n=60*E/Z*ΦB ? give answer with the reference to the
given slide.
The result from this slide match with the experiment results.

??? It’s from the manual
