Key Word: English grammar mastery and speaking abilility.
The main purpose of studying English is to be able to speak English orally. It
means that students who study English should be able to speak English to express
their ideas properly and proportionally. Grammar is very important in teaching
English, we must learn English grammar before to make our English better.
English grammar helps us to be able to listen, speak, read, and write in English
better, The purpose of studying English Grammar is to make our English be
understood by other people who speak and listen to us (Faidal, 2009: 1).
The problem of the research is, is there any correlation between grammar
mastery and speaking ability of the second year students SMK 01 Maesan
Bondowoso in academic year 2010/2011, English grammar mastery is partly the
study of what forms (or structure) are possible in a language (Thornbury,
1991:1).In this research include tenses (simple present tense, past tense, and future
tense) and part of speech (vocabulary, noun, and conjunction). And speaking
ability is speaking ability refers to students’ ability in expressing their ideas in
spoken form including in fluency and accuracy in pronunciation, vocabulary and
grammar (Janson, 1995: 5 in Werdiningsih, 2008: 8) in this research include
(fluency, accuracy). The hypothesis is there is a positive correlation between
English Grammar mastery and speaking ability of second year students of
SMKN1 Maesan Bondowoso.
Kind of his research is correlation and use it uses the quantitative research,
because of the researcher obtained the data by numerical from the uses statistical
analysis to analyze the occurrence of the data. . It uses person’s product moment
formula to compute the interval data from both variables. and the correlation of
the test is 0,47 at the level 5% r is higher than r table 0, 367.
Based on the data it can be concluded that there is a medium correlation
between between English grammar mastery and speaking ability of second year
SMKN1 Maesan Bondowoso in academic year 2010/2011.

PREFACE
This thesis is composed to make the readers understand about the English
people say that English grammar mastery is an important part of speaking ability.
Therefore the writer has reason to do this research to know the correlation
between English grammar mastery and speaking ability of the second year
The research was conducted on 6 June 2011; the researcher gave the test
her self. The English teacher and the head master and the whole teacher also
helped the process of this research. So, the research could be done well.
This thesis is still far for being perfect, therefore recommendation and criticism
