To Whom It May Concern:

Thank you for allowing us to write on behalf of Emma Bellview. Emma is a tutor for the Write on
Point writing center. Write on Point is a student-directed, peer-tutoring writing center where students of
Sports and Medical Sciences Academy (SMSA) can go for help with both independent and academic
writing. The center was developed in conjunction with The University of Connecticut (UConn) in an
effort to bring a student-centered and peer-supported experience to those who wish to develop their
creative and academic writing skills. Write on Point, established during the 2016-2017 school year, was
the product of SMSA being selected by UConn to participate in an outreach program where tutors from
the university trained our high school students to run a writing center similar to the ones established as a
resource used on college campuses. During the 2017-2018 school year, the Writing on Point writing
center received a major overhaul, which included adding more tutors to our roster, retraining and initial
training of peer-tutors, as well as building interest and ramping up our promotional efforts. In its second
year, the writing center experienced a moderate amount of success that we hope to continue to see in the
years to come.
Emma Bellview is a first year tutor with the Write on Point writing center. She was personally selected
by our lead tutor and center manager because of her nurturing personality as well as her academic
success. As a senior, Emma has taken on an important role in the center. She was instrumental in its
relaunch and helped when presenting our successes (and challenges) to the University of Connecticut. She
tutors every day after her school day has ended while SMSA students, who are in need of support, are still
taking classes. If it was not for Emma’s unselfish commitment to Write on Point and the needs of her
fellow SMSA students the center would likely be closed to students during school hours. As the head of
the English department and the center’s advisor, as well as on behalf of our principal, Jose Colon, and
vice principal, Alison Giuliano, we would like to thank Emma Bellview for her commitment to Write on
Point and her SMSA family. We earnestly recommend and support her in her future academic efforts.
