SECTION 033000 - CAST-IN-PLACE CONCRETE

PART 1 - GENERAL

0.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS

A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary
Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.

0.2 SUMMARY

A. Section includes cast-in-place concrete, including, concrete admixtures, waterbars, re-injectable

hoses, and finishes, for the following:

1. Raft slabs.
2. Basement walls.
3. Footings.
4. Foundation walls.
5. Slabs-on-grade.
6. Suspended slabs
7. Walls
8. Columns

0.3 DEFINITIONS

A. Cementitious Materials: Portland cement alone or in combination with one or more of the
following: blended hydraulic cement, fly ash and other pozzolans, ground granulated blast-
furnace slag, and silica fume; subject to compliance with requirements.

0.4 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: For each type of product indicated.

0.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Source Limitations: Obtain each type or class of cementitous material of the same brand from
the same manufacturer's plant, obtain aggregate from single source, and obtain admixtures from
single source from single manufacturer.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

0.1 CONCRETE MATERIALS

A. Cementitous Material: Use the following cementitous materials, of the same type, brand, and
source, throughout Project:

1. Portland Cement: ASTM C 150, if required supplemented with the following:

a. Fly Ash: ASTM C 618.

b. Ground Granulated Blast-Furnace Slag: ASTM C 989, Grade 100 or 120.

2. Blended Hydraulic Cement: ASTM C 595 cement.

B. Silica Fume: ASTM C 1240, amorphous silica.

C. Normal-Weight Aggregates: ASTM C 33.

1. Maximum Coarse-Aggregate Size: 20 mm nominal.

2. Fine Aggregate: Free of materials with deleterious reactivity to alkali in cement.

D. Lightweight Aggregate: ASTM C 330, 10-mm nominal maximum aggregate size.

E. Water: ASTM C 94/C 94M and potable.

0.2 ADMIXTURES

A. Non-Set-Accelerating combined Waterproofing and Corrosion-Inhibiting Admixture:

Commercially formulated, non-set-accelerating, organic Corrosion-Inhibiting Admixture;
capable of forming a lining within the pores of the concrete matrix slowing the ingress of
chlorides and moisture and creating a protective barrier around the steel reinforcement to
minimize chloride reactions with in concrete.

1. Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, available products that may be

incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following:

a. BASF Construction Chemicals UAE LLC; MasterLife CI 222.

B. Superplasticiser for Self Compacting Concrete: Polycarboxylic Ether and/or Polyaryl Ether
superplasticiser formulated to provide ready mixed concrete of low water-cement ratio with
very high workability in accordance with ASTM C-494 type G and/or ASTM C-1017 types I
and II.

1. Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, available products that may be

incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following:

a. BASF Construction Chemicals UAE LLC; MasterGlenium Superplasticiser.

C. Viscosity Modifying Agent for Self Compacting Concrete: Viscosity-modifying admixture

(VMA) based on high molecular weight ionic polymers to ensure that self compacting concrete
mix is cohesive and non-segregating without the addition of extra cement to that required for
the performance criteria of the concrete in its hardened state. The VMA must have a proven
track record of use with the chosen superplasticiser.

1. Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, available products that may be

incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following:

a. BASF Construction Chemicals UAE LLC; MasterMatrix 110.

The Self Compacting Concrete mix must satisfy the requirements of EN206-9 and the European
Guidelines for Self-Compacting Concrete (2005):

Tests at approval stage:

Slump/Flow (EN12350-8) 600 to 725mm

"V" Funnel (EN12390-9) 6 to 15 seconds
Viscosity class (EN12350-8) Slump/Flow t500 < 4 seconds
Passing ability (EN12350-12) "J" Ring (12 bars) < 10mm (Class PJ1)
Passing ability (EN12350-10) "L" Box (3 bars) > 0.80 (Class PL2)

Tests at delivery stage:

Slump/Flow (EN12350-8) 625 to 725mm

"V" Funnel (EN12390-9) 6 to 15 seconds
Viscosity class (EN12350-8) Slump/Flow t500 < 4 seconds

0.3 WATERSTOPS

A. Flexible PVC Waterstops: For use in expansion joints with fixing loops, for embedding in
concrete to prevent passage of fluids through joints. Used in conjunction with re-injectable
hose and re-swellable resin to increase resistance to water ingress after concreting

1. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, available products that may be

incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following:

a. BASF Construction Chemicals UAE LLC: Masterflex 333.

B. Re-injectable Hoses: All below grade construction joints shall incorporate re-injectable hoses
which shall be capable of performance in the following manner:

1. The hose should be of a re-injectable nature and be capable of re-injection several times
over the life of the structure. The hose shall be cleaned by vacuum cleaning and not
flushing.

2. Installation should be seamless and without cuts and joints when installed at multiple
bends / corners / circular paths in congested heavily reinforced concrete.

3. The hose shall be capable of following infinite changes in direction and turn corners with
ease.

4. Valves shall be enclosed in a retaining mesh to avoid displacement of these during

pressure testing and injection.

5. The injection resin should be of a re-swellable type made of an acrylate hydrogel, capable
of being vacuumed out of the hose with water (not flushed), before it gels.

6. The injection resin should be of a low viscosity 50 CPS to enable maximum penetration
of very narrow fissures.

The system shall be placed in 10-12 meter lengths with entry port and vent ends terminating in a
junction box and shall offer the user the option of vacuuming and re-injection. The junction box
shall be placed in vertical elements adjacent to the joint. Should this not be possible the junction
box and its cover should be installed flush with the floor level and should be able to tolerate
vehicular traffic.

The system should be used to seal off the construction joints permanently thus providing
protection to the steel reinforcement. If required by the Engineer, the re-injectable nature of the
hose shall be proven in a site demonstration. Job references of at least three projects with
contact details of the consultants shall be provided

C. Self-Expanding Strip Waterstops: Manufactured rectangular strip, bentonite-free hydrophilic,

with adhesive for bonding to concrete.

incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following:

a. BASF Construction Chemicals UAE LLC: Masterflex 610.

0.4 VAPOR RETARDERS

A. Evaporation retardant and finishing aid. Evaporation retardant shall be used for all concrete
surfaces where the evaporation rate exceeds the rate of bleeding of the concrete, and control of
evaporation at the fresh concrete face during large volume concrete pours using self compacting
concrete.

0.5 FLOOR AND SLAB TREATMENTS

A. Metallic Dry-Shake Floor Hardener: Pigmented, factory-packaged, dry combination hydraulic

binders with specially treated metallic aggregate.

1. Color: As selected by Architect from manufacturer's full range.

2. Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, available products that may be

incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following:

a. BASF Construction Chemicals UAE LLC: Mastertop 200 or Mastertop 230 Heavy
Duty.

B. Unpigmented Mineral Dry-Shake Floor Hardener: Factory-packaged dry combination of

hydraulic binder and specially graded mineral aggregates.

1. Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, available products that may be

incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following:

a. BASF Construction Chemicals UAE LLC: Mastertop 100.

C. Pigmented Mineral Dry-Shake Floor Hardener: Factory-packaged, dry combination of portland

cement, clean, kiln dried, optimally graded aggregates, color pigments, and plasticizing
admixture.

1. Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, available products that may be

incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following:

a. BASF Construction Chemicals UAE LLC: Mastertop 190.

2. Color: As selected by Architect from manufacturer's full range.

0.6 LIQUID FLOOR TREATMENTS

A. Penetrating Liquid Floor Treatment: Clear, chemically reactive, waterborne solution of sodium
silicate plus surface active chemicals; that penetrates, hardens, and densifies concrete surfaces.

1. Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, available products that may be

incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following:

a. BASF Construction Chemicals UAE LLC: Mastertop 20.

0.7 CURING MATERIALS

A. Clear, waterborne, monomolecular film forming curing compound, manufactured for

application to fresh concrete.

1. Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, available products that may be

incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following:

B. White pigmented, waterborne, Membrane-Forming Curing Compound with high solar

reflectance index:

1. Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, available products that may be

incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following:

a. BASF Construction Chemicals UAE LLC: Masterkure 107.

C. Clear, or white pigmented for high solar reflectance index, Membrane-Forming Curing and
Sealing Compound based on acrylic resin suitable to act as a primer for subsequent compatible
surface finishes :

0.8 RELATED MATERIALS

A. Bonding Agent: Styrene butadiene styrene (SBR) co-polymer latex water resistant bonding
agent for bonding new concrete to old.

a. BASF Construction Chemicals UAE LLC: Rheomix 141.

B. Bonding Agent: Opaque, white, non-toxic externally plasticised PVA dispersion bonding agent
for bonding new concrete to old.

a. BASF Construction Chemicals UAE LLC: Rheomix 121.

0.9 REPAIR MATERIALS

A. Repair Underlayment: Factory packaged cement-based, self smoothing product that can be
applied in thicknesses from 2.0 mm up to 30.0 mm.

a. BASF Construction Chemicals UAE LLC: Mastertop 528.

0.10 CONCRETE MIXTURES, GENERAL

A. Admixtures: All admixtures shall come from a single supplier, Superplasticisers and VMAs
formulated from polymers produced in-house by the supplier. Use admixtures according to
manufacturer's written instructions.

1. Use water-reducing, plasticizing admixture in concrete, as required, for placement and

workability.
2. Use water-reducing and retarding admixture when required by high temperatures, low
humidity, or other adverse placement conditions.
3. Use water-reducing admixture in pumped concrete, concrete for heavy-use industrial slabs
and parking structure slabs, concrete required to be watertight, and concrete with a water-
cementitious materials ratio below 0.50.
4. Use corrosion-inhibiting admixture in concrete mixtures where indicated.

B. Color Pigment: Add color pigment to concrete mixture according to manufacturer's written
instructions and to result in hardened concrete color consistent with approved mockup.
