STATEMENT OF PROBABLE CAUSE 3/6/2018 11:14:11 AM
St. Louis County, MN

The Complainant states that the following facts establish probable cause:

On March 2, 2018, at 9:44 PM, officers responded to St. Luke's Hospital regarding a patient who came to
the hospital with his head covered in blood and lumps, his face was completely swollen, ligature marks
surrounded his wrists and ankles, yellow plastic rope was bound around his wrists, a bloody bandana and
padlock hung from his neck. The patient was R.T.B.. The investigation revealed the following:

NATAUSHA RAE SMITH, D.O.B. 11/05/1983, hereinafter referred to as the Defendant, believed that R.T.B.
had molested her juvenile son while he was babysitting her children. The Defendant's children were
scheduled for interviews regarding the alleged incident around 2PM on March 2, 2018.

Before the interview, the Defendant had R.T.B. come to her residence at 529 W. 4th St., in Duluth, St. Louis
County, Minnesota. When she got R.T.B. into a basement bedroom, the Defendant and her 17 year old
niece, K.J.N., got R.T.B. to the ground with a "choking" maneuver, hit him over the head with nunchucks,
and quickly tied him to a chair by his wrists and ankles with yellow rope. He was then hit multiple times with
the nunchucks and punches so that he would "feel what her kids had felt."

The Defendant then left to attend the interviews with her children. She requested that K.J.N. check on R.T.B.
while he was still tied up in the basement bedroom. The Defendant returned about two hours later with
three other people. They went back to the basement bedroom, and using a bandana, they secured a
padlock in R.T.B.'s mouth as a gag. They threw R.T.B. up the stairs and into a car. R.T.B. tried to fight back
and was kicked in the mouth where the padlock was placed.

Inside the car, they put a white plastic bag over R.T.B.'s head so blood would not get in the car. It is
estimated they drove R.T.B. around for an hour. During the car ride, they continued to assault R.T.B..

Eventually, they pushed R.T.B. outside the car. On the side of the road, he was kicked and stomped on the
back of his neck multiple times. He "played dead" until the assault ended. R.T.B. was found crawling on the
side of the road and taken to the hospital.

Back at her home, the Defendant used bleach to clean the bloody carpet in the basement bedroom.

In a Mirandized statement, the Defendant said she "wanted to put the fear of God into him" and that she
"had no d____ to f___ him in the a__."
