I hope you are doing well.

Today I had a meeting to start planning for our Good Deeds Day on April 15th which includes a clean up of the
Western Run Stream.

I wanted to know if you have some time next week for me to stop by the school to talk with you about how we can
include the Cross Country Green team in the planning as well as the execution of the day similar to what we did
last May.

Thanks for these notes from our meeting. This is very helpful. I plan to send out the flyers for the weekend
clean up with students tomorrow and I will also send out a staff blast to all of our teachers with the
electronic flyer you sent. 

The DPW presentation is in the morning this Thursday but the students will be working on their
presentations in the afternoon. You could come to either of those and give a recruitment talk. Let me know
what is best for you ﴾morning/afternoon﴿ and I will arrange with the teacher.  The afternoon time ﴾2:30 ‐
3:40﴿ may be best as some students may be missing in the morning class because of a date change for a
field trip. I can make either work!

Hi Ms. Buls,
Thanks for meeting with me yesterday. Here are the highlights of our meeting and next steps.

I have also attached a copy of the Good Neighbor Day Flyer for you to share electronically with the staff in case
anyone from the school is interested in attending.

Notes:

·         There is a need for computers in her class in order for students to fully access the STEM curriculum. She
is looking into various options to obtain equipment but we appreciate any support CHAI can give in order to
apply for grants to get a minimum of 15 or a max of 30 laptops/tablets/chromebooks for her classroom.
o   Sherrell will follow up with Roxanne Allen regarding any opportunities and check in the CHAI Director
of Development for grant opportunities for technology.
·         STEM night is every spring. Ms. Buls would like to design an Innovation night before STEM night that
would include the school, possibly students from a Jewish day school and any community members who
have an interest in learning how to do 3 D printing.
o   Ms. Buls will check on a potential date for the event.
o   Sherrell will follow up with Roxanne regarding any partnership opportunities with another school.
o   Sherrell will share the event with the Glen community association so that they can attend.
·         Green Team – focus is in 3 areas: recycling, keeping school grounds green and clean and the Community
Garden.
o   CHAI Good Neighbor Day – Sunday, November 19th 1:00-4:00 at Western Run Stream – Ms.
Savage delivered copies of the flyer to the school. One to be distributed to each family next
Wednesday. (see flyer attached to this email).
o   The school garden has 2 raised beds – want to make sure that the beds are accessible for students
with disabilities (i.e. wheelchairs) & create a committee that includes community members, staff
from the school and students to tend the garden all year.
o   DPW doing a presentation on recycling - next Thursday afternoon – this can be a kickstarter to
engage students who want to be on the recycling team
  Ms. Savage will also come and share about CHAI’s Good Neighbor Day to recruit students to
be on the team. Students can earn service learning hours for participating and they
will earn a certificate that will be presented to them during the school’s quarterly
recognition event.
  Ms. Savage is willing to come and continue to share with the 8th grade students about
recycling and keeping the water ways clean after good neighbor day in order to keep the
group engaged and build this group as a part of opportunities for student leadership.

  Students will also be able to participate in Good Deeds Day which will be Sunday, April 15,
2018
  Ms. Buls and Ms. Savage will work together with students to design a project for Earth Day
2018.
