Dear KVUE viewers,

VITAC is the captioning company for KVUE and we are responsible for the captioning error which
occurred last night. We provide more than 525,000 hours of realtime broadcast captioning in a year,
striving as we do so for 100% accuracy in the delivery of our captioning services.

We employ a broad range of complex foundational technologies as well as skilled professionals to assure
we eliminate captioning errors wherever possible. Regrettably we did not achieve our targeted goal of
100% accuracy during last night’s broadcast.

Our protocol, when we mis-caption, is to make an immediate correction, in real time, using symbols to
indicate a mis-caption and immediately insert the correct caption in real time, which is exactly what was
done during the broadcast last night. It should also be noted that we receive only the audio feed for
captioning purposes as we perform our services on behalf of our clients.

The unfortunate error which occurred was neither intentional, nor is it a regular or acceptable
occurrence in the delivery of our services. As a group of professionals we at VITAC are resolutely serious
in our commitment to provide, accurate essential accessibility services for the Deaf and Hard Of Hearing
community and we are embarrassingly disappointed that we failed to do so today.

While we strive for perfection unfortunately we did not achieve that today. However although this was
not intentional, it is not acceptable and for this we sincerely apologize. The complex algorithms utilized
from the technology perspective will, in rare instances, result in an error in delivering a key word, name
or phrase either contextually or alphabetically.

We have immediately initiated additional efforts to further identify and to eliminate future occurrences
of this nature wherever possible as we strive to deliver 100% accurate, error free captions.

VITAC apologizes for this mis-captioning error today and apologize to all viewers and KVUE for this
occurrence and to anyone whom we have unintentionally offended, especially the family of Mr. Mason.
