14 Principles of learning by Brennan

At first I was looking for this article in the internet but I can't found any of it. The Brennan name appear
but most of the article related with Medical Field. Then, I looked for the book inside the main library but
none. Just after that, during the next class I able to ask Professor Raja Maznah about the principle and it
actually inside the class reading file in our spectrum!. It is really obvious that i never gave attention to
the reading file folder before..;). Just then, I able to open it and read about it. At first, I was a little bit
shock as I found out that there more than hundred pages about the topic and then, I zoom and scan for
the specific information needed which is the principles. The 14 Principle of learning basically can be a
guide for us when when want to construct our teaching as it can help us to give reason why we do such
learning. The learning principles really help me to look through and clearly the objective that I should
create as it cover by the principles.

The 14 Principles also help me to support my stand as I will use it in my third assignment and it able me
to justify the reason why I use ICT in the classroom. Basically, the 14 Principle's cover :

1) THE CHILD'S SENSE OF WONDER AND NATURAL CURIOSITY

- The nature of the children, they have a really high curiosity about things around them and it can be a
powerful motivation for their learning. When they drive by their curiosity, the positive impact on their
motivation will absolutely drive them to learn and this can create a very meaningful learning.

2) THE CHILD AS AN ACTIVE AGENT IN HIS/HER LEARNING

- Here, the children will construct their own knowledge which indirectly make them be the active
learner. They do not simply receive the knowledge but they need to construct their own understanding
and develop their own knowledge. This can let the learning become more student-centered and the
children become more responsible with their own learning.

3) THE DEVELOPMENT NATURE OF LEARNING

- This help children to revise the information that they already received and acquired. It is important for
the children to revisit the things that they already learned as it can help them to reinforce or revise the
concept that they already learn.

4) THE CHILD'S KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE AS A BASE FOR LEARNING

- It is crucial for the children to use their prior or existing knowledge as a base for them to start acquiring
the new knowledge. The learning also can become meaningful as the child indirectly doing the
continuation of the experiences and knowledge that they already have in the new knowledge that they
will acquire. This really will help them to become excellent in mastering the knowledge.

5) ENVIRONMENT-BASED LEARNING

- The environment especially the classroom environment is a vital determinant of the learning
experience that access by the children. The opportunity to push learning beyond the confines of the
classroom, the use of ICT can help us to make it.

6) LEARNING THROUGH GUIDED ACTIVITY AND DISCOVERY

- The effective learning experience that apply by the teacher in the classroom can motivate, offer
feedback and advice and also provoke reflection from the students. The teacher will play a role here
which he/she provide the suitable scaffolding such as ICT to the children to acquire the knowledge
completely.

7) LEARNING THROUGH LANGUAGE

- The vital role of language in children development as the use of it in speaking and discussion about
something. The use of ICT really can be a big help to the teacher as it can be the stimulus for the
children to speak and use the language correctly.

8) THE AESTHETIC DIMENSION

- Here, the appreciation can be shown when we provide opportunities for the children to express their
creativeness by using the ICT. This can drive them to become motivated to learn as they see there are
still someone valuing their creative response and it can let them use the knowledge and experience that
they have in the ICT field as best as they can.

9) THE SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DIMENSIONS OF LEARNING

- People always don't realise that this can be the significant factor that influence the students learning in
school. By using ICT, we actually increased the opportunity to the children to experience success with
learning and it also extends the range of learning experience.
10) THE INTEGRATION OF LEARNING

- The authentic learning is important as it can able the children to make connections between their
learning and real -life tasks. This can be offer by the use of ICT as it can let the children experience the
outside world rather than the classroom environment only.

11) THE TRANSFER OF LEARNING

- One of the key indicator of the success of the child learning is that the children ability to apply what
they have learned to new situations. This can let the child use their ability in transferring learning by
overcome the problem of their inert knowledge.

12) HIGHER -ORDER THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING

- The use of ICT can develop the students higher order thinking skill especially when the teacher make
the correct choice of task, which it will enable the students' to questions, analyse, investigate and think
critically.

13) COLLABORATIVE LEARNING

- This style of learning can be develop by using ICT as it allow the stduents' to working together in one
pc. This also can develop the students' social and personal skill as they will mix and learn how to work
with others.

14) TAKING ACCOUNT OF INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCE

- The content use in ICT can afford and cover every differences that have by each student. This really
can be a benefit for the students' themselves as it can help them acquire and develop their
understanding about the topic.
