THE DEATH PENALTY NEEDS TO BE

BANNED
The Death penalty is a ridiculous punishment that allows criminals to be killed,
even if the crime is not murder or attempted murder or some such offense. Many
countries use it to prevent disobedience, but everyone knows it is wrong. Most
countries that do not agree with it have signed an agreement that they will not
send a criminal back to the country in question if they face the death penalty, but
it is not enough! The Death penalty goes against the basic human rights set down
and upheld by the United Nations for the past ¾ of a century, it is a disgusting
method used to control the citizens of a country through fear. Also, some
countries are finding ways to get around not having Capital Punishment without
any consequences. Below, these three unequivocal reasons have been explained
in greater depth.

To embark on the journey of this matter, the first reason for banning the death
penalty from ALL countries is; this punishment is obviously against the basic
human rights that all human beings are expected to abide by. Multiple countries
set up a society called the United Nations that were tasked with the challenge of
deciding upon and then upholding the Basic Human Rights. A famous quote by
Helen Prejean says it all, “There are some human rights that are so deep that we
can't negotiate them away. I mean people do heinous, terrible things. But there
are basic human rights I believe that every human being has. The Universal
Declaration of Human Rights in the United Nations says it for me. And it says there
are two basic rights that can't be negotiated that government doesn't give for good
behaviour and doesn't take away for bad behaviour. And it's the right not to be
tortured and not to be killed. Because the flip side of this is that then when you
say OK we're gonna turn over -- they truly have done heinous things, so now we
will turn over to the government now the right to take their life. It involves other
people in doing essentially the same kind of act." This quote talks about The
Universal Declaration of Human Rights, this was decreed on the 10th December
1948 and many wonder why it took an entire committees congregation to realise
that no person or group has the right to take away another’s life as a punishment
for any heinous act or crime, no matter how terrible or how much of a risk to
society they are, after all, that’s what prisons are for.

Another insurmountable reason for why Capital Punishment is abominable is the

fact that it is a method, of which the sole reason is for a leadership team control
the citizens in their charge, using FEAR!!! This is obvious; people just refuse to
look, usually, for worry of what they might see, and for good reason, too! Fear is a
long-used method to keep people in line and it takes many different forms. Capital
Punishment is easily the most well-known, often used as a deterrent to others,
with the action of execution taking place in public, and the bodies being left on
display until they rotted so that only the bones were left! The use of this
preposterous punishment has been used for hundreds of years, with some of the
earliest records being from 1800 BC. As Clarice Lispector once said “A sentence
which might bear in mind that our great struggle is that of fear, and that if a man
has killed compulsively, it is because he was extremely frightened. Above all, a
justice which might examine itself, & recognize that all of us, a living quagmire,
founded in darkness, & for this reason not a man's evil should be consigned to
another man's evil: so that the latter may not shoot to kill without restraint or
censure. A justice which will not forget that we are all dangerous, & that at the
hour when the executant of justice kills, he is no longer protecting us or seeking to
eliminate a criminal; he is committing his own crime, which he has been
harbouring for a considerable time. At the hour of killing a criminal- at that very
moment, an innocent man is being put to death. No, no, I am not asking for the
sublime, nor for the things which gradually become the words which help me to
sleep peacefully. Those of us who take refuge in the abstract are a mixture of
forgiveness & vague charity. What I want is something much harsher & much
more difficult: I want the terrestrial.” What she is saying in this quote is that no
one should have the right to kill another person for a crime they have done, and
that when someone kills another person they are no longer doing their job, they
are, themselves, committing a crime. Another aspect of this that most don’t
usually consider is, people, especially the government/leading power, is the fact
that this shows fear on their part as well, fear of the people, fear of the
substantiality of their laws, fear of the human races’ power, and even of, our
personality and our thirst for vengeance, aggression and to be the best. All of our
leaders are in constant competition with each other to be the most powerful, the
richest, the cleanest, the smartest, the first to fly in space, basically, to be the
best, and they NEED their country to follow, support and love them to make it
happen, but more than that, they need their country to OBEY them, and the
method with the best results for this is, quite simply, FEAR!

Furthermore, when people say that Capital Punishment need to end, most think of
just the punishment that can be handed out in court, but what they don’t realise is
that it is much more than that. In recent years, many countries have stopped
using the Death Penalty, or so they say, while they do not actually have it as a
punishment for certain offences, countries like the United States of America, have
found ways to get around this particular issue. One of the most obvious examples
of this is the fact that members of the Police Force have permission to shoot-to-kill
upon sighting if they deem the situation dangerous. “Criminals do not die by the
hands of the law. They die by the hands of other men.” A rather straightforward
quote by George Bernard Shaw states, quite simply, that it is not the system of
government, or the law of the country that condemns these criminals to certain
death or even to severe and maybe permanent injury but individual human
beings, our thoughts, our passion, our defensive mechanisms and our instincts to
protect those we claim as our own, and harm those who we perceive as a threat.

All things considered, all versions of the Death Penalty need to be banned. This
can be seen here quite clearly as it goes against the basic Human rights, it is a
preposterous method used to control others and countries are going backwards in
time and bringing it back as it is still considered acceptable in some parts of the
world. Would you be able to sleep easily at night knowing that your daughter, your
son, your husband, your wife, your mum, your dad, your aunt, your uncle, your
niece, your nephew, your cousin were about to be killed, hunted with no chance of
survival for a crime? Come on Australia, you know it’s wrong! It’s time, time to do
something about it, time to stop turning a blind eye, time to stand together and
improve the world!!!
