Details of Hood Size Calculation
Say,
Belt Width = 650mm. Then One Side of the Hood (A) = 550mm.
Belt Speed = 0.8m/sec
Air Quantity of Suction Hood = 1500cumn/hr.
Hood Velocity = 1.5m/sec.
Then,
Q/(VxA)=B where, Q = Air Quantity of Suction Hood in cum/sec.
= 1500/3600 = 0.4167 cum/sec
V = Hood Velocity in m/sec.
B = Another Side of the Hood in m.
So,
0.4167/ (1.5 x 0.550) = B = 0.505
So, “B” taken as 500mm. & Height of the Hood taken as 50% of the larger
Side length. In this case it is 275mm.
Details of Duct Size Calculation
Say,
Total air with dust passing through the round duct = 1500cum/hr.
Duct Velocity = 18m/sec.
Then,
Q=VA_ where, Q = Air Quantity Passing through the Duct in cum/sec
1500/3600 = 0.4167 cum/sec.
Duct Velocity in m/sec. = 18m/sec.
A= Area of the Round Duct (Dia = D in mm) in sqm.
= 3.142 x (D42/4) = 0.7855 x D°2
So,
0.4167 = 18 x 0.7855 x DA2
D2 = 0.02947
D=0.171
So, “D” taken as 170mm.3.

a) Maximum particulate emission allowable in Flue Gas = 100 mg / Nm?
b) Flue Gas flow rate = 1,10,000 m°/hr.
c) Flue Gas temperature at Stack = 180°C
‘Therefore, Maximum particulate emission allowable at Stack = 60 mg / m*
Therefore, Allowable Dust Load in Stack, Q = (1,10,000 x 60) / 10° Tons/hr.
= 0.0066 Tons/hr.
Hence, Stack Height, H = 74 (Q)”””

CASE — IT
a) Maximum SO2 emission allowable in Flue Gas = 40 mg / Nm
b) Flue Gas flow rate = 1,10,000 m’/hr.
) Flue Gas temperature at Stack = 180°C
‘Therefore, Maximum particulate emission allowable at Stack = 24 mg / m*
Therefore, Allowable SO, concentration in Stack, Q = (1,10,000 x 24) / 10° Kg/hr.
2.64 Kg/hr.
Assuming, $02 emission of 3.0 Kg/hr, as a worst possibility,
Hence, Stack Height, H = 14 (Q)°*
= 14 (3.0)
= 19.465 Meter (Minimum Stack Height)
CONCLUSION:
Minimum Stack Height provided as per Norms : 30.0 Meter is OK.
Which Satisfy both the conditions.
