To investigate whether eating breakfast in the morning affects student performance at the Porus
high school.
Introduction

The purpose of this project was to determine whether eating breakfast in the mornings

affect student’s performance at school. In this project the investigation will take place at the

Porus high school among all the second form classes which are; 8p, 8o, 8r, 8uand 8s. This

investigation would be achieved by collecting information based on the number of student who

eats breakfast in the morning and those who do not eat breakfast in the morning and also the

class average.
Method of Data Collection
This project was carried out through the following classes of second from; 8p, 8o, 8r, 8u, and 8s. A

data collection sheet was sent out to each form class to record the number of students who eat

breakfast and those who do not eat breakfast in the morning and the class averages.

The class with the highest number of student who eat breakfast would determine whether the

student is performing well at school or not. If the students who eat breakfast in the morning

average are low then, not having breakfast is not the problem. However, if the student eats

breakfast and his or her average is high, then eating breakfast in the morning would totally have

an effect on the student performance at school.

Mathematical Knowledge

The numbers below represent the number of students from each form class that both eat

breakfast in the morning and the student who do not eat breakfast in the morning. These are

students who are in second form at the Porus high school. The form classes are 8p, 8o, 8r, 8u,

and 8s.

The most frequent number of students who both eat or do not eat breakfast among all the second
form classes are; 10, 15 and 20.
Therefore, mode = 10, 15, 20.

Analysis of Data
Figure 1, is showing a pie chart which represents the percentage of student who eat breakfast in

the morning and the student who do not eat breakfast in the morning. However, there are a

percentage of 52 of student who eat breakfast in the morning and there are a percentage of 48 of

students who do not eat breakfast in the morning. The higher the percentage of students who eat

breakfast in the morning, the higher the performance of the second form students of the Porus

high school. However, if there is a decrease in the percentage of student who does not eat

breakfast the performance for the second form student would be poor and would have to come up

with a solution in order for the students to perform better in second form.

Figure 2, is showing a graph which represent the class average from each from class of second

form. These class average are determined when the number of student from each class whether

they eat breakfast or not are averaged up to give one class average. At the Porus High School, the

student in second form; 8p, 8o, 8r, 8u, and 8s information was recorded on the data collection

sheet and the data was analyzed on the graph, figure 2. It is clearly stated that eating breakfast in

the morning does affect student performance at school. While 8o has an equal number of

students who eat breakfast in the morning or not the class average is at an equal percentage

which is 42% which therefore shows evidence that eating breakfast in the morning does affect

student performance at school. Form 8r and 8u are the classes with the lowest average which are

and are performing way beyond the school pass mark. However, these are the classes with a high

number of students who do not eat breakfast in the mornings.

Discussion of Findings
While it was expected based on observation and investigation that was carried out, eating

breakfast in morning does affect student performance at school. This investigation was carried

out at Pours High School among the classes in second form. For this investigation to be carried

out a data collection sheet was sent out to each form class and results were tabulated and

analyzed. The purpose of this project was to investigate whether eating breakfast in the morning

affect students’ performance at school, and investigation was achieved successfully. Figure 1

which represents the percentages of student who eat breakfast and those who do not eat

breakfast. However, there is a high percentage of 52 students who eat breakfast and a percentage

of 48 students who do not eat breakfast. Therefore, there is only 4% less student who do not eat

breakfast. Figure 2, which shows the class average of each class, has confirmed that eating

breakfast in the morning does affect students’ performance at school. Form 8p and 8s have the

highest class average due to the fact that they have the highest number of students who eat

breakfast in the morning, 8p with an average of 66% and 8s with an average of 34%.While

student who are not having breakfast in the morning have a low class average; 8r 40% and 8u

36%. While 8o has a class average of 42% due to the fact that the class have the same number of

students who eat breakfast and student who do not eat breakfast.

Having a healthy breakfast in the morning before school is one of the most important task to start
a healthy day. According to www.bodyandsoul.com.au, starting the day by eating a healthy meal
is like giving your body some premium unleaded to speed through the day. Boyce says eating the
right kind of breakfast is crucial.
Conclusion
This project started with the assumption that eating breakfast in the mornings affect student

performance at school and it can be concluded that eating breakfast in the does affect students’

performance of school due to investigations that was carried out. The data shows beyond doubt

that it does indeed require a good healthy breakfast in the morning do affect students’

performance at school.

Introduction

The school based assessment provides some basic information on the roles and

responsibilities of a competition secretary. It also provide on insight into the impact of a

competition secretary on team performance. The data presented based on findings seeks to

answer some basic questions. An analysis of the data may become useful to different person in

the future. It also contains some reflection based on the planning, execution and past event

analysis. A competition secretary should help to improve performance of the players (and the

teams) both physical and psychologically. The position of the competition secretary is

demanding and multi-faceted, parent, teacher, counselor, disciplinarian, and organizer. These are
