“ADVANCED SECURITY TO PREVENT BOARDER

CROSSING FOR FISHERMAN”

INTRODUTION:

The Tamil Nadu factor in India-Sri Lanka relations that had been quiet for long has
come to the fore in the form of the fishermen issue. Frequent incidents of fishermen from
Tamil Nadu getting shot in the Sri Lankan’s maritime boundary have enraged all citizen of
the state. From Tamil Nadu about 18,000 boats of different kinds conduct fishing along the
India-Sri Lanka maritime border. Ever since violence broke out in Sri Lanka two decades
ago, fishing activity has not been peaceful. Tamil Nadu fishermen are arrested, or shot, by the
Sri Lankan Navy. From the fishermen's point of view, straying takes place inadvertently, due
to sheer ignorance about maritime boundaries.

OBJECTIVES:

The main objective of the paper is to help the fishermen not to navigate beyond
other country’s border. If a fisherman navigates beyond the country’s border, an alarm is
generated indicating that the fisherman has nearing the border. With this alarm, the fisherman
can be caution and come back inside the country’s border. Additionally, a message
transmitter is interfaced with the device to send a message to the master system located on the
shore indicating that a vessel has going to cross the border. Thus guards in the shore can
assist and provide additional help to those fishermen if needed. Here also when the boat
crosses the boundary then motor in the boat has been rotated towards backward direction to
get away from reaching the boundary.

METHODOLOGY:
In our project we are using GPS/SENSOR technology for saving the Fishermans
life by using embedded system. Here PIC microcontroller is used as embedded system for
controlling over all operation of the proposed system. Our project is divided into two sub
system they are

 Slave system
 Master system

SLAVE SYSTEM:

Slave system is fixed in fisherman’s boat and it consists of GPS/SENSOR and

EMBEDDED SYSTEM. In slave system if the fisher boat reaches near the border then the
alarm has been generated and when the boat reaches the border then the motor fixed in the
boat will stop rotating forward and will start to rotate reverse direction for some time delay to
avoid getting into the boundary. When the slave system reaches the boundary then also a
message has been sent to the master team for rescue system.

MASTER SYSTEM

In master system it consist of the rescue team where the admin will be noting for
the rescue message and when any message has been received then rescue team will go for the
spot.

GPS:
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is actually a constellation of 27 Earth-
orbiting satellites (24 in operation and three extras in case one fails). Each of these
3,000- to 4,000-pound solar-powered satellites circles the globe at about 12,000 miles
(19,300 km), making two complete rotations every day. Each signal transmits a
unique signal back to earth on low frequency such as 1.5754GHZ and 1.2276GHZ.

GSM:
GSM module is used for transmission of message seeking assistance. GSM
cannot be used in oceans as towers cannot be placed in oceans. Thus CDMA network
or satellites can be used for message transmissions.

PIC MICROCONTROLLER:
PIC means Peripheral interface control. They are RISC processors and use
Harvard architecture. It has 35 instructions only. Most of the instructions take 0.2
microseconds to execute when operated at 20 M Hz .It has watch dog timer. It has
internal flash memory. It executes 200 instructions per cycle.

OPERATION:
 The proposed system uses a GPS receiver which receives signals from the satellite
and gives the current position of the boat.

 With already known details of the latitude and longitude of the maritime boundary,
the microcontroller calculates the current position and stored boundary positions and
indicates the fisherman that when he is 10 KM near to boundary by an alarm system.

 It also uses a message transmitter to send message to the master system which
monitors the boats in the sea. Our system provides an indication to both fisherman
and to coastal guard. Flow chart of given system is given below
