Operation
Change output connector
Refer to Fig. 4. Remove the red hat of FC/SC adapter ([19]),
then remove the fiber connector at ⒇ and connect to
FC/SC adapter [19]. At last, fix the red hat on the FC/APC
adapter.
Note: when change connector, please protect the laser Fig.4 Change Output Connector
fiber and installation safely. The cleaning of the device refers to Appendix of the
operation manual.
Adjust input level
The device is adjusted as 59 channels when leave factory. When input RF signal, the
input level display is convert into the level of 59 channels PLA-D signal. For example,
if input signal is 30 channels with level 85dBuV/CH, then the display is 82 dBµV/CH.
Without precision instruments, do not change the initialized value.
Note: the displayed value is converted into the level of the 59 channels PLA-D
signal. The following is the formula:
Fig.5 Fig.6
page6
The setup will be saved in the device automatically.
Fig.8
Fig.7
When input 59 channels of PLA-D signals, it will be adjusted to the best value
because of the laser characteristic. If the user doesn’t do well in “adjust input level”,
recommend not do it any more. The laser will be adjusted to the best value
automatically, even if the quantity of channels is change. (Detailed operation refers to
“automatic functions”.) The displayed modulation depth (impulse level) of laser
must be modified.
If the user has adjusted the input level already, they should it adjust according to the
link loss, quantity of channels and parameters of optical receiver. When we shall
enter the state in fig. 7, please press “ENTER” into the state in fig.8. And press the
button “↑” to increase the level and press button “↓” to decrease it.
Note: the modulation depth shouldn’t exceed 110dBµV, otherwise the device
can not work.
For example: Suppose that laser modulation depth is PL=98dBμ V/CH and RF input
level range :81~94dBuV/CH, if input signal varies in the range, and the variety of
laser modulation depth is always less than 1db. If the input signal level is below 81
page7
dBµV/CH or over 94dBμ V/CH, the device will enter protection state and the laser
stops working.
The laser stops working in case of alarm. When the alarm signal disappears, the
laser will automatically enter working status. The input level on rear panel is the
range of 59 channels channel PAL-D input signal.
Automatic function
After adjust the input level and laser modulation depth, the modulation level of laser
doesn’t verify with the input signal and automatically stabilizes in the setup value.
The power of laser doesn’t change in case of add/subtract program channels. The
device can adjust the laser’s impulse level automatically to keep the CSO and CTB
when add/subtract program channels. Users can monitor it through the -25dB test
port. The normal input level and impulse level should be the sum of display value and
amendatory value. The amendatory formula is:
Amendatory value ≈ 10log (channels when adjusted/ present channels)
The device is adjusted as 59 channels when leave factory. All parameters have been
adjusted to the best value according to different laser module. And users can achieve
the best performance without debugging. The input level and impulse level displayed
are converted into the level of 59 channels PLA-D signal. If the program channels are
not of 59 channels, the input level should be: displayed value adds the amendatory
value; and the impulse level should be: displayed value subtracts the amendatory
value. The amendatory formula is:
Amendatory value ≈ 10log (present channels/59)

Manual operation mode
This device has been set the automation mode when it leaves the factory. This device
can supply another working mode, that is, the manual operation mode, because we
have known that some customers would like to prefer adjusting the impulse level of
the laser transmitter as well as some parameters through manual operation, to adjust
the relative parameters of the laser automatically through numbers of the program
channels and input level.
We can adjust by manual the attenuation value of the digital control attenuator
built-in the laser transmitter to change the modulation level of the laser in the
manual operation mode. The LCD displays the attenuation value of the present
digital control attenuator at the same time.
Customers could select one of the two modes mentioned above according to their
operation habit after the device is powered on and within the 10 seconds. After
complete the initialization of the laser transmitter through the power on, it has entered
into the mode selection menu (as shown in Fig.18 )
Select the key “↑”, “↓”, we have selected the manual
mode and the automatic operation one separately.
Manual < Auto
Press the key “ENTER”, may enter into the mode by Remain 9 S
customer deciding after complete the mode selection. In
Fig.18
the mode selection menu, there exists the Remain time information in the right lower
corner of the laser transmitter. When Remain time is 0 seconds, the device enters
into the operation mode before it power off. For example, it is in the manual operation
mode, thus, now it is the same as one.
POWER=10.5mW
The LCD will display the laser power and the attenuation
ATT=6dB
value of the digital control attenuator built-in the laser

transmitter in the manual operation mode (as shown in
Fig.19). The customer can adjust attenuation value of the inputting to the digital
control attenuator by pressing the key “↑” (increase the attenuation value) or the
page10
key “↓” (decrease the attenuation value) on the front panel. The adjustable
range is between the 0dB and the 15dB.
The laser transmitter has no the automatic protection and other automatic setup
function in the manual operation mode. The customer needs to adjust input level
and attenuation value of the attenuator to reach the best modulation level with
the help of the apparatus through the manual operation.
Test mode
Be as shown in fig.20. The device
has entered test mode, under this
mode all the protection functions and
Fig.20
automatic functions are invalid. So the input level must be controlled in the standard
input level. The value displayed on the LCD is level of single-channel.
Test mode is only used in testing flatness.

The way for clean and maintenance fiber connector
During using optical device, all kinds of connectors may be polluted by dust and dirt
to some extent, which will increase the loss of fiber and decrease the output power.
The output level of transmitter will decrease. So the connectors must be cleaned. The
following is the way of clean and maintenance fiber connector.
page12
Don’t expose your eyes in the laser output port directly.
3. Take off the connector, use thick lens clean paper and dip some high-purity alcohol.
Then wipe the cannula reelingly for 3-4 times.
4. Take out a piece of lens clean paper, fold it and dip some high-purity alcohol. Wipe
the slope (see figure above). If the fiber on the paper is scratched and leave on it,
repeat the 3-4 operations.
5. Take off the other connector of adapter and repeat the 3-4 operations.
6. Install two connectors to the adapter.
We often attribute the loss of optical power and output level decreasing to the trouble
of the transmitter. In fact, it is not correct. Only to clean the connector can we resolve
the problems.
