1. INTRODUCTION
Project Title :- A study on " Absenteeism of Employees" with special reference to Madhya
Pradesh Poorv Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company Limited.
About Organization:- The Government of Madhya Pradesh vide order dated 1stJuly, 02 has
incorporated Madhya Pradesh Poorv Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company Limited as a wholly
owned Government of Madhya Pradesh Corporations under the Companies Act, 1956 to
undertake activities of distribution and retail supply for and on behalf of Madhya Pradesh
State Electricity Board in the areas covered by the Commissionaires of Sagar, Jabalpur and
Rewa.
The main objectives are to achieving efficiency gains and making necessary changes
to make the Company commercially viable, progressively self sustainable and less
government dependent and at the same time, balancing the interest of the consumers in regard
to quality of service and economical tariff. The plan would include among other things,
metering, billing, collection, identifying the present deficiencies and the improvements to be
made, mapping supply feeders, measurement of energy supplied to feeders and energy audit,
study of losses and scheme for progressive reduction, reduction in input costs, consumer
affairs handling, investments required for improvements in the distribution system etc.

2. NEED FOR THE STUDY


Important characteristics of Indian workers are that, they are in the habit of abstaining
from work compared to workers of other countries. The rate of Absenteeism ranges from
4.3% to 44.8%. It also varies with the seasons in the year, the highest being during May, June
of every year. The main reasons for absenteeism are sickness, accidents or maternity. These
factors accounted for about 1.1 to 6.6%. Social and religions causes as high as 1.7% to 14.2
%. Other causes like visiting villages for attending litigation, rest and recreation account for
0.1% to 17.5 % of total absenteeism. Absenteeism is directly effects on the progress of the
country and as such the companies are facing a downward trend due to recession and all that
are involved in the process are to be looked into. So I have selected this work at
MPPKVVCL, Jabalpur to identify the level of absenteeism and to facilitate the company to
move in this direction and find some progressive results. Naturally organization has to look in
to these aspects and need to find suitable remedial measures so that qualitative and
quantitative progress can be achieved.

3. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY


 To identity the reasons for Absenteeism
 To identity steps required to decrease the Absenteeism.
 To study Employees working condition.
 To measure the Employees Absenteeism level.
 To study Employees working condition.
 To identity factor that motivates the Employees which minimize Absenteeism

4. SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The development of any organization depends on the regularity of employees. The study
is conducted to know the various levels and reasons for absence of employees in an
organization. By looking it one can adopt corrective measures to decrease irregularities in the
organization leads to organizational growth.

5. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Methodology provides scope to decide about the scientific nature of study.
There are 3 types, they are
1. Explorative
2. Descriptive
3. Experimental
Descriptive methodology is used in the present study. Descriptive research includes surveys
and fact-finding enquiries of different kinds. The major purpose of descriptive research is
description of the state of affairs as it exists at present.

Data Sources
The study is based on Primary and Secondary data.

Primary Data:
The Primary data was collected from the respondents by administering a structured
questionnaire and also through observations, interviews & discussion with Head of
Department.

Secondary Data
Apart from Primary data. The secondary data is being collected through various Reports of
ERP Software of MPPKVVCL, Jabalpur used for this study.

Sampling: Sample Population


There are total 986 employees working in the Corporate Office of MPPKVVCL, Jabalpur.

Sample Size:
Out of the total population, the sample taken among respondents from the Corporate Office is
175.

Sampling Area:
The research was conducted at Corporate Office of MPPKVVCL, Jabalpur.

Sample Method:
The research was made by the survey in accordance to the convenience of the employees. So
the sample type is convenience sampling.

6. TOOLS USED FOR ANALYSIS


Instrument:
A structured Questionnaire is used and the type of questionnaire is target questions.

Method:
The research was conducted by using contact methods through Questionnaire, Interview and
Observation. The information was collected from the employees of Corporate Office
Jabalpur.

7. PERIOD OF THE STUDY


The study covers a period of 2 years commencing from 2015-16 to 2016-17.

8. LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY


Each and every study has certain limitations and hurdles in the course of its performance. But
this does not mean that the study should stick up whenever certain limitations come up. The
need is to try one’s level best to solve incoming limitations. Few limitations of the study are
enumerated below:
 This study is only limited to Corporate Office, Jabalpur.
 The method of Convenience sampling is suitable for small populations only.
 Sample size taken for the study is quite small and it therefore will not represent the
whole population.
 Some of the respondents shall not take interest in filling questionnaire.
 Some of the respondents shall give wrong answers due to lack of interest.
 Some respondents hesitated to give the actual situation; they feared that management
would take any action against them.
 It does not ensure proportionate representation to all constituent group of population.
 I was able to cover only those employees who were currently working in the
company.
