Mounting of Termination Bracket for Split Mount (MGS6677)

The termination bracket can be mounted in different positions (height). Use four screws M6 and washers.
Mounting of Rack to wall/ceiling Brackets for Long Haul (MBB7081 and MBB7082 (left and right))
The brackets can be mounted in different positions (height). Use four screws M6 and washers.

Securing to floor
1. Place the rack upright, without the adjustable feet, and position it according to a layout plan.
2. Put marks through the holes, remove the rack and drill holes in the floor.
3. Put expansion plugs in the holes and hammer gently into place.
4. Mount the adjustable feet (nominal height 28 mm) and place the rack into position.
5. Insert the screws and washers and align the rack to correct vertical position by adjusting the feet. Then tighten the screws.

Support of rack top

1. Mount the two support brackets on top of the rack.
2. The rack may be installed directly to the wall. A support bar on wall may be used to place the rack away from any skirting board and enables
installation of other racks in a row. The position of support brackets is adjustable.
3. If the rack is installed away from wall, extended support is needed. Use the support bar and brackets to make a frame which can be secured to the
wall.
4. Back-to-back installation may either be done by bracket to bracket mounting or by use of support bar to enable installation of other racks in a row
and securing to wall.

IFU
Mounting in Rack
The IFU can be mounted in ETSI, 19" as well as 23" racks. The only difference between the ETSI, 19" and 23" IFU is the mounting brackets. These brackets are
easily changed (3 screws) to fit the actual equipment rack.

The IFU Mounting Kit contains a Multi bracket, consisting of brackets for IFU mounting in the above mentioned racks. In addition a bracket for mid-mount in 19" racks
is included. Snap-off the required bracket. Remove any remaining connection pins (the pins between the different brackets) using pliers, before the bracket is
monunted to the IFU.

IFU with 19" brackets

IFU with ETSI brackets

Note! The IFU is ventilated through vent holes in the IFU sides and back panel. It is important that these holes are not complete or partly covered, to ensure
proper air flow through the IFU interior. When mounting in rack, make sure that cables or other obstacles do not block the air flow.

Single and Dual Channel Systems

In systems that require one IFU only, the IFU can be mounted directly in the equipment rack by means of four screws (torque 10 Nm).

Note! Make sure that the mounting brackets are properly secured to the IFU sidewall before mounting in rack (torque 1.25 Nm).
Three and Four Channel Systems
These systems require 2 IFUs. The IFUs have to communicate with each other and must be interconnected. A Sub-rack that can contain two IFUs is available for this
purpose. Connectors for interconnection are placed on the back plane of the Sub-rack. These connectors correspond with connectors on the IFUs.

Sub Rack

The illustration below shows the mounting sequence.

Note! Make sure that the mounting brackets are properly secured to the IFU sidewall before proceeding (torque 1.25 Nm).

Note! The IFU interface connector (located on the rear side of the IFU) is protected with a metal cover. This cover must be removed before the IFU is
inserted in the sub-rack.
1. Mount the Sub-rack in the Main-rack by using two screws in the upper mounting holes.
2. Mount the lower IFU in the Sub-rack by sliding it on the bottom guides and carefully enter the back plane connectors.
Note! Do not use excessive force. Make sure that the connectors enter smoothly.
Fasten the IFU with four screws (torque 10 Nm).
3. Remove the two screws in the upper Sub-rack mounting holes.
4. Mount the upper IFU in the Sub-rack by sliding it on the lid of the lower IFU and carefully enter the back plane connectors.
Note! Do not use excessive force. Make sure that the connectors enter smoothly.
Fasten the IFU with four screws (torque 10 Nm).

Note! It is important that the lower IFU is mounted in the Sub-rack before the upper IFU is mounted.

Earthing of IFU

To ensure proper earthing/grounding, the IFU must be

connected to the equipment racks earth/ground terminal, with a
2
cable of min. 4mm (AWG11). A terminal for this purpose is
located at the upper right corner of the IFU (the corner of the
FAN unit). Each IFU must be earthed (using earth jumper cables
between the IFUs) The earthing cable has cable shoes of
different sizes. Make sure that the smallest one is connected to
the M4 earthing screw on the IFU.

Note! Make sure that the earth terminal screw (with

washer) is properly tightened.

Note! When mounting the earthing cable to the IFU, it is

important that the cable does not prevent the FAN unit to be
pulled out of the IFU Basic Frame.

Power Cable

Each Radio Interface Unit (RIU), has a power connector and

must be supplied separately with -48 VDC. Secure the power
connector to the IFU with the finger screw attached to the
connector.

Note! This equipment has a connection between the

earthed conductor of the d.c. supply circuit and the earthing
conductor.

Note! Before the power supply is connected, all units and

blind panels on the IFU must be properly mounted, leaving no
open gaps in the IFU.

Note! It is recommended to protect each power cable with

10A fuses.

Note! If the IFU is mounted in other racks than described in this document, it is important that the earthing is performed using the same principles as described above.
The IFU-ODU Jumper Cable can be connected directly to the IFU-ODU Cable without the use of a Jumper Bracket.

ODU and Antenna mounting
See Tools and Installation Kits

Note! The installation, maintenance, or removal of antenna systems requires qualified, experienced personnel. This installation instruction has been written for such personnel. Antenna
systems should be inspected once a year by qualified personnel to verify proper installation, maintenance and condition of equipment.

Nera disclaims any liability or responsibility for the result of inproper or unsafe installation practices.

Warning! Use protective wear, when handling O-ring grease and anti-seize paste, to avoid eye and skin contact. Keep away from mouth. If skin has been exposed to O-ring grease or
anti-seize paste; wash thorougly with liberal amounts of liquid soap and rinse with water. Do not use or store open near food or food sources. Empty or partially filled containers should be
disposed of after use, according to Govermental Regulations.

The following procedure describes the principle of mounting the equipment on a pole.
The mounting sequence depends on available lifting equipment and the site architecture. Sometimes it is more convenient to assemble the ODU and antenna on the ground and lift as one unit,
for placement on the antenna tower or platform, but the priciple of assembling will be the same.

Note! Do not use the Transceiver handles to lift an assemled ODU.

Note! To avoid water penetration, the RSSI connector cap (bayonet cap) must always be attached to the RSSI connector when the connector is not used for RSSI measurements.

ODU Overview
See ODU overview and marking.
Polarization
Antennas are delivered from the factory with default vertical polarization.
Change of polarization is easiest to perform before the antenna is mounted to the antenna mount.

Flex Guide

The Flex Guide is mounted to the waveguide interface on the

Pole Mount Bracket and to the antenna as shown in the
animation. Gaskets are used on the waveguide interface flange
and on the Flex Guide flange (If gasket groove is present).
Silicon grease must be applied on the gaskets.

If required the Flex Guide must be secured to the pole by means

of cable ties or to a support Bracket.

Note! If the Flex Guide is not delivered by Nera, the

flanges may be made of brass or silver plated brass. In this case
a cupal shim must be inserted between the waveguide interface
flange and the Flex Guide.
If the antenna interface is made of aluminium, a cupal shim must
be inserted between the antenna and the flexguide as well.
It is important that the aluminium side of the shim faces the
waveguide interface and the antenna (cupper side facing the
Flex Guide).
If the Flex Guide flanges are made of Sn plated brass (as
delivered by Nera), no shim is required.

Earthing of IFU-ODU Cable

The IFU-ODU cable must be earthed by means of a special

earthing kit. The earthing kit must be applied to the cable near
the cable inlet in the station house/shelter. See mounting
instructions in the earthing kit.

Typical placement of the Earthing kit, is shown in the picture.

Note that the earthing cable is mounted vertically towards earth.
This will improve the lightning protection.

The IFU-ODU cable insulation must be stripped before the

earthing kit is mounted.
Antenna Adjustment

The antenna mount can be adjusted ±25° in elevation and ±10° (fine) in azimuth.

Note! To avoid damaging the adjustment bolts, do not try to adjust the antenna (elevation/azimuth fine adjustment bolts) without slackening the four corresponding
fastening bolts.

Preparation for expansion
The system can be prepared for expansion from 1+0 to 2+0/1+1/Hstb by using a coupler. In this case one of the ODU interfaces on the coupler must be weather and dust
protected. A protective cap for this purpose is included in the coupler packaging.

Note! If an asymetrical coupler is used. The ODU should be mounted on the "Main" Coupler port for best system gain.

See procedure below for mounting of the protective cap.

Diplexer Replacement
Turning of Diplexer
By turning the Diplexer 180° the receiving and transmitting frequencies are changed from High passband to Low passband or vice versa.
The label on the Diplexer (see below), determins the Sub-band and the High passband/Low passband direction.
On the XCVR, the upper coax connector/waveguide flange (towards the handle) is the transmitter interface.

Example: If "High Passband" points towards the handle, the XMTR is in the high half band.

Note! Disassembly and reassembly of XCVR/Diplexer must be performed indoors in a clean environment with low humidity.

Note! Make sure that the ODU power is shut off. The IFU ODU cable must be disconnected.

Note! If the Diplexer is turned or a Diplexer for a different Sub-band is mounted, the Diplexer settings ("Selected diplexer" and "High or Low diplexer orientation") must be updated in the
Evolution Manager; Configuration/Frequency.

Use Use a Torx wrench; T30.

Carefully disassemble the XCVR and Diplexer.

Note! Be careful not to drop any objects into the XCVR or

Diplexer flanges as this may damage the equipment.
Step 2 Disassembling of XCVR/Diplexer

Step 3 Reassembling

XCVR/Diplexer Reassembling

Apply anti-seize grease on the XCVR thread holes.

Ensure that the two gaskets are located on the XCVR as shown
in the illustration, before mounting the Diplexer. If the gaskets
are damaged, change them with new ones.

Place the Diplexer on the XCVR.

Note! It is important that the four screws (with lock-

washers and washers) interconnecting the XCVR and Diplexer
are tightened according to the following procedure:

Use a Torx T30 screwdriver to adjust the four mounting screws

so they just touch the surface of the Diplexer. Ensure that the
Diplexer does not tilt under this operation.

Using a torque screwdriver, tighten the screws cross diagonally

as indicated in the figure below, applying a maximum of 1/4 turn
per each screw continually repeating the tightening procedure
until 5Nm torque is achieved.
Antenna Alignment
The purpose of the alignment procedure is to obtain maximum signal level and cross polarization discrimination by aligning two antennas in opposite directions.
The antennas should be properly mounted (follow the manufacturers mechanical alignment instructions) and polarized in the same direction. It must be possible to transmit from one antenna and receive on the other. The
best way is to have a transmitter and a receiver connected to both antennas.

Note! In order to transmit and receive signals, the initial system settings must be performed through the built-in web-server; Evolution Manager.

Procedure for Coarse alignment

Adjust both antennas to correct directions as precisely as possible by using magnetic compass or optical sight.

Procedure for Fine alignment

Fine adjustment is achieved by sending a signal from one of the antennas. On the receive side various methods may be used.

a) Measure the RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) voltage from the transceiver
b) Read the received level on a spectrum analyser
c) Measure the received power with a power meter

This procedure describes antenna alignment by use of RSSI:

WheRSSI Voltage is available at the BNC-connector on the Transceiver.

Operate the Evolution Manager to manually switch the equipment to Ch1.
Mute the transmitter at the local station to exclude interference from this source.
A voltmeter must be connected to the RSSI connector, and preferably monitored by the person who is adjusting the antenna.
Adjust alternatively in azimuth and elevation until the received signal reaches maximum level (minimum RSSI voltage level). Try a
few times in each direction.
The antenna should be turned so much that the first side lobes are seen, thereby ensuring that the antenna is aligned to the main
lobe.
When the antenna is correctly adjusted, secure all bolts. Monitor the instrument during this operation and if necessary realign the
antenna.
When adjustments are completed on the first antenna, the same procedure is performed on the opposite antenna.

Note! To avoid water penetration, the RSSI connector cap (bayonet cap) must be remounted when the adjustments are finished.
Cross Polarization Adjustment
After alignment of the antenna, the antenna feed must be adjusted horizontally and vertically. Loosen the flange which secures the feed to the reflector. Align the feed by using a spirit level.
Secure the flange.

Final Control
When all adjustments are performed, check that the
input level corresponds with the one theoretically
calculated. If the input level is too low, adjust the
antennas once more. Finally, ensure that all bolts and
nuts are properly mounted and secured.

cut to correct
length and
terminated with
connectors in both
ends, according to
instructions in the
connector kit.

Connect the IFU-

ODU cable to the
ODU-connector,
located at the right
corner of the ODU.

Note! Make sure that the connector is

properly tightened, to prevent water penetration in
the cable.

Note! XPIC systems: To avoid extra

configuration for XPIC, the cables should not
differ in length by more than 3 meters on the two
polarizations.

Earthing of IFU-ODU Cable

Each IFU-ODU cable must be earthed by means of

a special earthing kit. The earthing kits must be
applied to the cables near the cable inlet in the
station house/shelter. See mounting instructions in
the earthing kit.

Typical placement of the Earthing kit, is shown in

the picture.
Note that the earthing cables are mounted
vertically towards earth. This will improve the
lightning protection.

The IFU-ODU cable insulation must be stripped

before the earthing kit is mounted.
