About the Library

• The EOM library has been created from

scratch
• Replaces the former EOM3D library
which is no longer supported
• The EOM library provides more objects
than the previousEOM3D library
• The EOM library is free of charge, it
does not need any special license
• The library is part of the Plant Simulation
13 installation

Restricted © Siemens AG 2016

EOM – Electrical Overhead Monorail

Purpose

• The EOM library can be used to create

an electrical overhead monorail system
for the automotive and other industries
• The Electrical Overhead Monorail is a
rail-born transportation system
• The vehicles are powered individually
• The vehicles can drive independently on
the tracks of the EOM system
• Junctions are realized by several
switches
• The tracks are normally mounted below
the roof of the plant or high above the
production area

EOM – Electrical Overhead Monorail

The Objects of the Library

• The EOM is based on the object TRACK

• It provides several switches and
junctions
• The PIVOT turns EOM vehicles
• The LIFTER lifts EOM vehicles up/down
from one track system to another track
system of different heights
• The LoadStationo loads/unloads parts
onto/from an EOM vehicle
• Use the object VerticalCurve to model
vertical curves within your EOM track

The MUs of the Library

• The Hanger is the basic MU of the

library, it is a powered vehicle
• The TelpherWagonC is a carrier which
can be mounted on the Hanger
• The Clampshell is a special MU for the
automotive industry. It is a powered
vehicle.

Working with the Track

• The Track is a length-oriented object

that can be used to create EOM
systems.
• When creating a track in your simulation
model, the Line/Arc Parameters window
will be shown.
• Enter the Anchor point height for
creating your track system at a given
height.
• The created track has the shape as
shown below.

Adding a Lifter

• Click the Lifter icon on the Toolbar and

insert a lifter in your frame
• Double-click the icon to open its dialog
• Define the parameters of the lifter object
as well as of the lift
• Define the height and width of the lifter
• The depth of the lifter doesn‘t have any
effect for the simulation, it is just used for
engineering purposes only
• To define the side lines, drag a side line
over the lifter and drop it there.
• Click Open list of attached lines to see
which tracks are assigned to the lifter

EOM – Electrical Overhead Monorail

Adding a Lifter /2

• The Lift is the part of the Lifter which

will move up and down
• You can define a capacity higher than 1
to load more than one vehicle
• Use the damping time to allow the Lifter
to come to rest at the target position
• Define a preferred position. The Lift will
drive to this position when there is no
transportation order
• Define the attribute Destination of the
Hanger. The destination is one of the
tracks assigned to the Lifter

Restricted © Siemens AG 2016

Page 9 10.02.2016 Siemens PLM Software

EOM – Electrical Overhead Monorail

The LoadStation

• Has almost the same parameters as the

Lift object
• Define the Height of loading, this is the
height the Lift of the load station is
driving to when loading or unloading
• Define the Lifter itself as destination of
the Hanger, so the Lifter recognizes that
you want to load or unload the Hanger

VerticalCurve

• Insert the VerticalCurve as an length-

oriented object
• The dialog box opens when inserting the
track
• You will see the length of the track you
inserted, you can change it in the dialog
• Define the height of the starting point
(Z1) and the height of the ending point
(Z2)
• If Z1 is greater than Z2 then the vertical
curve is created from top down
otherwise from bottom up

will turn from one side to the other side
• Supports the method switchTo:
switch2Way.switchTo(“left”)
switch2Way.switchTo(“straight”)

Example for Using

a Lifter

Siemens Industry Software

Tecnomatix Plant Simulation Worldwide User Conference 2016

EOM – Electrical Overhead Monorail

Creating a Sample Model

• First we create a short track of 2.5 m

length at a height of 5m. We use this
Track as a placeholder for the Lifter we
will insert later on

Restricted © Siemens AG 2016

Page 23 10.02.2016 Siemens PLM Software

EOM – Electrical Overhead Monorail

Creating a Sample Model

• Now we create the EOM track

• Note that we insert the track so that we
create at least two separate segments of
the track
• Make sure the tracks are connected
• Open the 3D window
• The tracks all have a height of 5m

source object, creating two Hangers
• Insert a Source object into your model
and connect the source with one of the
tracks on the right-hand side
• Double-click the icon of the Lifter to
open its dialog

• We select Number adjustable and

enter an Amount of 2

EOM – Electrical Overhead Monorail

Creating a Sample Model

• Finally, we have to set the attribute

Destination of the Hanger objects
• To do so, we use two methods in which
we just set the attribute Destination of
the current Hanger
• Because we want to use the method as
a front-triggered exit control of two
tracks, we have to move the current
Hanger
