1.0 FIRE & EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

1.1 Introduction

The fire & emergency plan is a live document and will be updated locally depending on
where works / activities are being carried out in the Project.

1.2 Flowchart – Normal Working Hours

An “Incident” is a situation in which damage to environment or property is involved and


emergency service attendance may be required.

An “Accident” is a situation in which injury is caused to a member of the workforce or


public.

The poster in Appendix A should be placed around the Project premises.

3.0 DUTIES

3.1 Duties of the HSE Manager / Officer


 To ensure that the office premises / departments are segregated.
 To ensure that the procedure for contacting the Emergency Services is posted in the
main office and is fully understood.
 To ensure that all personnel are briefed on the procedure to follow in the event of an
accident/ incident.
 To ensure that there is always a senior manager on duty who can take control of an
incident.
 To provide written reports of all incidents to the consultant / client.

7.0 PROCEDURE FOR CALLING EMERGENCY SERVICES

Refer to Appendix A.

7.1 Fire

IF YOU DISCOVER A FIRE WITHIN OFFICES:

1. Immediately operate nearest fire alarm


2. Attack the fire, if possible, with appliances provided but without taking personal risks
3. Leave the site and report to the person in charge of assembly point at:

4. The FIRE Safety Coordinator or their Deputy on the affected area will take charge of
any evacuation and ensure that no one is left in the area

ON HEARING THE FIRE ALARM:

1. On instruction from Fire Safety Coordinator or his deputy RECEPTIONIST will call
the EGA emergency immediately. Dial 025092111.
a) Give the operator your telephone number and ask for FIRE
b) When the emergency replies give the following information clearly and
distinctly:

2. Turn off hotplate/micro Owen
3. Call the EGA emergency number
4. Make sure everyone is accounted for
5. Attack fire if possible with appliances
6. Move a safe distance away from fire
7. Don’t stop to collect valuables
8. Don’t re-enter the area
9. If adjacent to properties/public notify and inform EGA emergency them have been
contacted

IF YOU DISCOVER FIRE IN THE STORORAGE CONTAIBNER:

1. Immediately inform others


2. Turn off hotplate/micro owen Call the EGA emergency
3. Make sure everyone is accounted for
4. Attack fire if possible with appliances
5. If adjacent to properties/ public notify and inform them EGA emergency have been
contacted

CALL EMERGENCY NUMBER IMMEDIATELY TO EVERY FIRE OR SUSPICION OF


FIRE

1. Sound nearest Fire Alarm


2. Close all windows and doors (but do not lock)
3. Use nearest available exit
4. Familiarise yourself with the location of the nearest fire exit
5. Do not stop to collect personal belongings
6. Do not re-enter the site

8.0 ENVIRONMENTAL EMERGENCY / POLLUTION INCIDENT

In event of Environmental Spillage/ Incident

Please report immediately to the HSE Manager/Officer or Duty Manager. Environmental


Emergency Response Team will be responsible in controlling the spillage and ensure
proper mitigations are carried out immediately. An Incident Investigation Report must be
filled up and submitted accordingly.

9.0 ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT MITIGATION AFTER A FIRE / EMERGENCY

After a fire / emergency incident, all wastes generated from the emergency will be
disposed of as per the waste management procedure (HSEMSP 56) and site specific
waste management plan. Waste classified as hazardous will be segregated and
disposed as defined in the waste management plan.

10.0REVIEW

Following an incident or major accident:

The Fire & Emergency Procedure Audit / Review Record (Appendix G) should be
completed by the HSE Manager/Officer in conjunction with the relevant personnel (e.g.
Security, First Aid, personnel directly involved). If no review in a six month period then a
drill will be carried out.
