History

• HWM1.3./1.4 used main stream technology

• What can be done using edge ASIC technology?

The birth of GS890 !!!

Why GS890

In the new telecoms world the focus is mainly on

packet based switching and networks.

This change will not take place over one night,

it will be a migration from STM-switching to
packet based switching.

Ericsson has not yet sold half of the expected

amount of AXE nodes.

GS890 - Highlights
• Strictly non-blocking
• Distributed, 16 kMUPs per GEM. Implemented as a single-width XDB board.
• Maximal capacity at normal rate (64 kb/s) is 512 kMUPs, scalable in steps of 16
kMUPs.
• Maximal sub-rate capacity (n x 8 kb/s) is 128 kMUPs, scalable in steps of 16
kMUPs
• Duplicated, meaning that single faults will not affect traffic
• TS (Time/space) structure
• Supports device protection without any waste of MUPs
(used for ET 155-1).
• An additional GEM magazine may be plugged in while traffic is being
processed – no traffic disturbances will be caused.
• Each DLEB board has sufficient capacity for the connection of four GDM
magazines, corresponding to four DL-3 interfaces
