Module Descriptions
The first module of the Diploma consists of an online knowledge course and a two-day
practical workshop held in Manchester, UK. Here you will develop your skills and ability
to read and understand others through analyzing verbal and non-verbal behaviors.
You will learn the SCAnR™ system and how to apply it’s 27 scientifically validated
behavioral criteria to assess truth and lies.
FACS is the world’s most comprehensive and adopted tool for measuring and labelling
facial movement and categorizing emotional displays on the face. In the Face and
Emotion Module, you will practice and learn the techniques of the Facial Action Coding
System (FACS) and explore the research on universal facial expressions and emotions.
The Module is designed to not only prepare you for the FACS final certification
(assessed externally through www.paulekman.com) but also to provide further insight
into how FACS can be used for research, and for enhancing your accuracy in real-time
analysis of the facial expressions of other people.
This Module takes ‘interviewing’ to mean “a conversation with a purpose” and, therefore,
the information that it contains can be applied to any context in which we are interacting
with others. Also, the investigative element of the module explores a variety of
approaches that can aid with achieving a greater depth of understanding when
interacting and interviewing others. You will be introduced to different interview protocols
and frameworks, including powerful, yet non-oppressive EIA elicitation and interview
models. The aim is to give you a range of techniques and frameworks that you can apply,
as deemed relevant, within your work and non-work contexts.
This Module will focus on attentiveness and how applying it can help you create the
conditions to analyze behavior accurately so you can objectively manage an interview or
conversation. You will learn and practice the benefits of mindfulness, and how remaining
present, and becoming aware of your biases and emotions state will increase the
success of your interactions and support your emotional intelligence.

This Module explores the various applied theories and approaches used to analyze
language, language use, and the acoustic qualities of the voice in relation to emotion,
influence, credibility and deception. Throughout this Module you will start to analyze
conversations and interactions in order to identify clues to emotional states, any
influencing strategies at work and also potential indicators of deception; this will be
looked at using various analysis types and also through the use of technology/software.
The Module also looks closely at the interactional strategies people use to avoid having
to deceive or be seen as deceptive.
The final Module in the Diploma is the two-day live Masterclass held in Manchester, UK.
Here you will bring together all the knowledge and skills you have acquired over the
course of the Diploma and put them into practice. The intensive workshop is designed to
put you in high-stake real life scenarios and provide you a safe and positive environment
to hone your skills and learn from the rest of the group and your expert tutors.
