This study guide and the corresponding class in the God
Encounters Training eSchool of the Heart comes forth from the
gleanings of various teachers, pastors, leaders and authors
from over the years. This content has a breadth and length that
is far reaching.
I want to acknowledge and give thanks to the Lord for the
impact on my life of a few of these prayer voices by name: Dick
Simmons of Men for Nations, Beth Alves of Increase
International, Mike Bickle of IHOP - KC, Cindy Jacobs of
Generals International, and Dick Eastman of Every Home for
Christ.
I owe a great deal to the foundational teaching and spirit of
prayer that rests on these men and women of God. Thank you,
Lord, that You let their shadows cross my life. Now, I in turn,
combine my personal history and research and add it to that of
others.
May this study be used to release Prayers that Strike the Mark

Preface: Prayers that Strike the Mark
I am so excited about the content of this Study Guide and the
corresponding course in the God Encounters Training eSchool.
We each need and want our prayers to be answered. Right?
Therefore, we must to learn to lean into the heart of God and
His Word to be able to launch Prayers that Strike the Mark. I
originally composed some of these materials in a study guide
called Strategies of Intercession. Upon review, I found that I
needed to refresh the series and update it with additional
understandings. When I put my hand to that plow, out came
this composition that blends the best of the previous materials
mingled with a victorious mind set – after all – in the New
Covenant we are working towards victory – we are working
from victory!
Section One lays the foundation with an Overview of Prayer
Models. Section Two moves into insightful and in-depth study
on Cleansing Prayer. Section Three closes out with Victorious
Prayer. Now this sounds like something that I would like to
study! How about You?
BUILDING FROM A REFORMER’S MINDSET
The priesthood of all believers was a foundational truth that
had been lost to the church for centuries leading up to the
Great Reformation. The restoration of that single concept
radically changed the understanding and expression of
Christianity in its day. In this hour, again, the Holy Spirit is
blowing upon these truths. Out of this fresh gust of wind has
emerged a worldwide prayer movement unprecedented in
church history. We, the Body of Christ, stand collectively at
the altar of incense in this hour.
We are not our own. We are His possession. This is our
destiny. We are His! But we are possessed for a purpose. We
are called, according to I Peter 2:5-9, to be a holy priesthood, a
holy nation, a chosen people of His own possession. We are
possessed for the purpose of being a perpetual priesthood
releasing passionate praise and incense of intercession unto
the Lord!
We are called as a New Testament priesthood to offer up
continual sacrifices to God. Hebrews 13:15 tells us what those
sacrifices look like today: “Through Him, let us continually
offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is the fruit of our lips
that give thanks to His name.” This is reminiscent of Psalms
100:4 which plainly tell us, “We are to enter His gates with
thanksgiving and into His courts with praise.”
What a blessed privilege we have been given to freely release
from the overflow of our hearts an offering, or sacrifice, or
praise and thanksgiving. But is there more? Definitely!
Revelation 5:8 describes yet another aspect of sacrifices made
to God. “And when He had taken the book, the four living
creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the
Lamb, having each one a harp, and golden bowls full of
incense, which are the prayers of the saints.”
The Lord wants to be apprehended with a heavenly vision of
humility, worship, and abandonment, such as is portrayed here.
The four and twenty elders cast their crowns before Him who
alone is worthy. Let us enter into this divine worship and begin
to cry out with the angels as we join these heavenly choirs in
radical praise and worship. We too have the ministry of the
harp.
Was there something else upon the altar besides the harp? Yes,
the golden bowls full of incense. Once more, incense becomes
our theme. But in this passage of scripture, the meaning of the
incense is interpreted for us. It is the “prayers of the saints”.
Our continual sacrifices of the harp of praise and the bowls of
incense arise as an acceptable offering before our wonderful
God.
ENFORCING THE VICTORY OF CALVARY
That is the purpose of this study guide. We are called to
enforce the victory of Christ Jesus on Calvary! Remember, in
the New Covenant, we do not work towards victory, we pray
from the completed work of the cross of Jesus! It is finished!
It is time for a whole generation of priests and kings to arise
and offer up the sacrifices of praise and prayer. Prayers that
Strike the Mark Study Guide has been designed to help
broaden your understanding of the many different valid,
biblical expressions of this priestly life and ministry. As you
study these twelve detailed lessons, may the spirit of prayer
fall on you and may you fill heaven’s bowls to the brim and
overflowing!
May this study guide and the related audio and or video class
be an inspiration and tool of equipping in your life!

Overview of Prayer Models

Lesson One: The Orchestra of Prayer

I. A FRESH LOOK AT THE HIGH CALLING OF

INTERCESSION
A. Webster’s Dictionary Definitions
1. Intercede – (Latin intercedo: inter – between; ado
– to go; literally, to pass between) to act between
parties with a view to reconcile those who differ or
contend; to plead in favor of another; to
interpose, to mediate or make intercession.
2. Mediate – being between two extremes; to
interpose between parties at variance with a view
to reconciliation; to mediate a peace.
3. Mediation – “entreaty for another – intercession.”
B. Hebrew Definition:
The Hebrew word for intercession is ‘paga’, which is
only translated a few times as intercession in the Old
Testament. Yet, when you compare the many different
pictures, words, and interpretations of the word paga,
you can glean many wonderful understandings of
what it means to intercede. Paga – to meet, to light
upon (by chance), to fall upon, attack, strike down, cut
down, to strike the mark, laid upon.
1. To meet – Isaiah 64:5. A meeting with God for the
purpose of reconciliation.
2. To light upon – Genesis 28:10-17. By God’s
working of grace, our divine “Helper” is standing
by, ready to aid us in our intercession, moving us
from the natural to the supernatural, from finite
ability to infinite ability, taking hold of situations
with us so as to accomplish the will of God.
3. To fall upon, attack, strike down, cut down – I
Samuel 22:11-19; II Samuel 1:11-16. Intercession is
the readiness of a soldier to fall upon or attack the
enemy at the command of his lord, striking and
cutting him down!
4. To strike the mark – Job 36:32. Intercession
releases the flashing forth of His glory/lightening,
directing it to the desired situation and allowing it
to strike the mark.
5. Laid upon – Isaiah 53:12 (intercession); Isaiah 53:6
(laid upon). Intercession reached its fullest and
most profound expression when our sins were
“laid upon” Jesus. Jesus was able to fully identify
with us, having the totality of our condition
placed upon Himself; then as the scapegoat, He
carried it far away. There is an aspect of this form
of intercession into which we, as His Body, can
enter. Colossians 1:24 calls us to share on behalf
of His body, which is the Church, in filling up that
which is lacking in Christ’s afflictions.
C. We Paint the Targets for God’s Glorious Intervention!
According to these understandings, praying
believer’s in the earth realm paint targets for the Holy
Spirit to take a measure of the “glory of God”
surrounding His hands in the heavenly realm and send
it forth “striking the mark.” This becomes Prayers that
Strike the Mark! What an invitation!

II. PRAYER IS THE HARMONY OF MANY DIFFERENT

INSTRUMENTS
A. Key Scriptures
1. Matthew 18: 18-20 – Truly I say to you, whatever
you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and
whatever you loose on earth shall have been
loosed in heaven. Again I say to you, that if two
of you agree on earth about anything that they
may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father
who is in heaven. For where two or three have
gathered together in My name, there I am in their
midst.
2. Ephesians 6:18 … all kinds of prayers. (NIV) and
…praying always with all prayer (NKJ).
3. Philippians 4:6 – In everything by prayer and
supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests
be made known to God (KJV).
B. Similarity of an Orchestra and an Effective Prayer
Gathering
1. The score – the Word of God.
2. The tempo – set by the Holy Spirit.
3. The conductor – Jesus Christ Himself.
4. The Instruments – Who are the “instruments”?
C. Many Different Sounds
In an “orchestra” there are numerous instruments that
each bring forth a distinct sound, and each require
specific lessons in order to play skillfully. There can be
the percussion, woodwinds, strings, or brass sections.
Take your place in the orchestra of prayer for the glory
of God and learn to play your distinct instrument.
In a symphony, there are normally three distinct
movements. So it is with the symphony of praise,
prayer weaved with worship and finally true
intercession. It is a “concert of sounds” blended
together to bring God’s glorious intrusion into His
creation by the invitation of man!

III. TWELVE TYPES OF SOUNDS OF PRAYER

A. Thanksgiving
1. Psalms 100:4a – Enter into His gates with
thanksgiving… (NKJ).
2. Ten lepers cried at a distance, “Lord, have mercy!”
They were all healed. Only one returned and
thanked God. This one was made whole. Direct
access to Jesus came through thanksgiving.
B. High Praise
1. Psalms 100:4b – … and into His courts with
praise… (NKJ).
2. We thank God for His goodness – what He has
done; and we praise God for His greatness – Who
He is!
3. Psalms 48:1a – Great is the Lord, and greatly to be
praised! (NKJ)
C. Worship unto the Lamb
1. Worship is an attitude – bowing the head,
prostrating, kneeling.
2. Psalms 95:1-7a – Oh come, let us sing to the Lord!
Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before His presence with
thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with
psalms. For the Lord is the great God, and the
great King above all gods. In His hand are the
deep places of the earth; the heights of the hills
are His also. The sea is His, for He made it; and
His hands formed the dry land. Oh come, let us
worship and bow down; let us kneel before the
Lord our Maker. For He is our God, and we are
the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His
hand (NKJ).
3. We begin with shouting joyfully, for He is a great
God! All of this leads to worship, which is our
chief end. Worship is the ultimate expression of
totally giving yourself to God. Who or what you
worship is your God/god. Whatever you worship
has power over you.
D. Dedication or Consecration
1. John 17:19 – Enter into the High Priestly prayer of
Jesus. Be sanctified – set apart unto the Lord.
2. Romans 12:1-3 – We are to present (dedicate) our
body as a spiritual service of worship.
E. Prayer of Commitment
1. Psalms 31:5a – Into Your hand I commit my
spirit… (NKJ).
2. Psalms 37:5 – Commit your way to the Lord, trust
also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass (NKJ).
3. Committing is an act. Trust is an attitude. When
you commit to something, you roll your way onto
the Lord. When your way becomes too heavy,
you roll it off onto another (the Lord). The order is
commit and then trust – give it and then leave it.
F. Petitioning – Just Ask!
1. I John 5:14 – we must ask according to the will of
God.
2. Bob Mumford – noted Bible teacher said: “Am I to
give them a nugget out of my mind or teach them
how to get it for themselves?”
3. When you pray, do you ask the Bible way?
Mark 11:24 – … whatever things you ask when
4. you pray, believe that you receive them, and you
will have them (NKJ). When it becomes settled in
you, you will know it and then experience it.
G. Intercession – Standing in the Gap
1. Ezekiel 22:30-31 – And I sought for a man among
them that should make up the hedge, and stand
in the gap before me for the land, that I should
not destroy it: but I found none. Therefore have I
poured out mine indignation upon them; I have
consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their
own way have I recompensed upon their heads,
saith the Lord God (KJV).
2. This is not “devotional prayer.” This should have
already been covered in your own time of
communion with the Lord. You now take your
position before the Lord on behalf of others!
3. From Isaiah 59:
a) Isaiah 59:2-8 – A list or catalog of sins is
stated.
b) Isaiah 59:9-15 – Then we are given God’s
reaction.
4. To stand in the gap between God and man is one
of the highest honors given to a believer. (For
more detail on this see my book The Lost Art of
Intercession and the Watchmen on the Walls Study
Guide.)
H. Supplication with a Revelation of God’s Heart
1. This is a cry for one main thing — mercy. James
4:13 tells us that “mercy triumphs over judgment!”
2. Zechariah 12:10 – You cannot lift the cry without
the grace to do it. Ask for the spirit of grace and
supplication.
3. Hebrews 4:16 – the only ones who don’t receive
mercy are those who don’t come. What blinds us
is self-righteousness (religiosity).
I. Prayer of Command
1. This is a command of faith where the Lord heeds
the voice of a man. This could be a “gift of faith”
as listed in 1 Corinthians 12 and other scriptural
references.
2. Joshua 10:12-15 – Joshua spoke to the Lord and
then released a command to the sun and the
moon. The sun stood still for an entire day.
J. Decreeing a Blessing
1. Numbers 6:23-26:
a) The Lord bless you…
b) …And keep you…
c) The Lord make His face shine on you.
d) …And be gracious to you.
e) The Lord lift up His countenance on you.
f) …And give you peace.
Numbers 6:27 – So they shall put My name on the
2. children of Israel, and I will bless them (NKJ).
K. Releasing a Curse
1. Matthew 21:21 – The fig tree with no fruit was
cursed at its roots and withered and died.
2. This is like the prayer of command coupled with a
gift of faith.
3. Exercise great caution in this area. This is the one
specific area that needs the greatest discernment
and should be left to the experienced with
confirmation.
L. Persistence Matters
1. Luke 11:5-10 – We are to ask, and keep on asking
… seeking … knocking.
2. The game isn’t over until you give up! So don’t!
Persist! Pray from a winning mindset. We are
called to be enforcers of the Kingdom of Light
over the temporary kingdom of darkness.

IV. A CLOSING COMMENTS FOR THE PRAYER

ORCHESTRA
A. Five Aspects of Intercessory Prayer
1. Personal petition – Asking for circumstances in
your life to change.
2. Personal devotion – Asking for spiritual growth,
communion with God, and worship.
3. Meditation on God’s Word – Turning God’s Word
into conversation with Jesus.
4. Intercession for God’s corporate purpose – I

5. Intercession for specific individuals – II
Corinthians 1:11; Ephesians 6:19; Philippians 1:19.
B. Ten Conditions Necessary for Effective Prayer
1. Faith – Mark 11:23-24; Mathew 21:21-22; I John
5:14-15.

8. Boldness – Hebrews 4:16.
9. Forgiveness – Matthew 6:15.
10. Unity – Matthew 18:19-20; 5:23-24.
C. Scriptural Characteristics of Ongoing Intercession
Read Luke 11: 5-13
1. Urgency – Relating to an urgent need, (vs. 5)
2. Protection – Prayer on behalf of others, (vs. 6)
3. Humility – Open acknowledgment of helplessness,
(vs. 6)
4. Confidence – Knowing that God will answer, (vs.
8)
5. Patience – Involves a period of delay, (vs. 8)
6. Perseverance – Is not deterred by delay, (vs. 9-10)

reward, (vs. 13)
SUMMARY: Holy, believing, persevering prayer are three
qualities that are essential for obtaining God’s divine answer.
Let’s combine all these elements and release Prayers that Strike
the Mark in Jesus Name!

10. What was the primary insight you gained from this lesson,
and how will you apply it to your life?
Lesson Two: Coming into Agreement

I. THE ORCHESTRA OF PRAYER CONTINUED

A. Matthew 18:18-20
I tell you the truth whatever you bind on earth will be
bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth
will be loosed in heaven. Again, I tell you that if two
of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it
will be done for you by My Father in heaven. For
where two or three come together in My name, there I
am with them.
What is the prayer of agreement? It is more than
simply clasping hands and saying, “Brother, let’s
agree on this together.” The prayer of agreement is the
“Orchestra of God,” finely tuned and playing in
harmony together. It is building relationships together,
and prayer is a natural by-product of believers united
together in Christ.
B. I John 5:4
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world;
and this is the victory that has overcome the world –
our faith.
Whatever is born of God will be tested. Whatever is
born of God will overcome. Realize it says that it is
“our” faith – not just “my” faith. This shows the value
and priority of developing prayer partners and or a
committed community of prayer.

II. EXPOSURE TO VARIOUS STRATEGIES AND MODELS

OF PRAYER
A. Acts 2:42
And they steadfastly persevered, devoting themselves
constantly to the instruction and fellowship of the
apostles, to the breaking of bread (including the
Lord’s Supper) and prayers.” (AMP) Ephesians 6:18
also exhorts us to, “Pray at all times (on every
occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all
(manner of) prayer and entreaty. (AMP)
We find that in the effective ongoing ministry of
prayer there are many different biblical expressions.
Just as there is a great diversity of athletic sports,
games and activities, so it is with prayer. In athletics
there are different rules that apply to each
corresponding game. Likewise in the ministry of
intercession, there are different rules, guidelines, and
ways of “scoring,” depending on which “type” of
intercession or prayer you are engaged in.
B. Clarity of Your Purpose and Assignment Is Needed
Many questions need to be answered before you can
properly assess what form of prayer and intercession
you are engaging.
The following questions should be considered:
• Is this a “Spirit-filled believer’s prayer gathering?”
• Is there “room for the unlearned?”
• Is this an open meeting, or a closed gathering?
• Are there targeted prayer goals or is it
spontaneously led?
• Is this an interdenominational group or a group of
relationally joined prayer partners?
• Is there relational unity cultivated over a period of
time?
• Are you properly discerning your sphere of
authority?
• Are the gifts of the Spirit free to operate?
• Is there freedom for weeping, groaning, travail,
and/or loud corporate praying?
• Is there time for silence and the contemplative
traditions?
• Is this a “watch of the Lord?”
• Are you journaling your experience?
• Who is the leader?
• Are you to pray for those in authority?
• Are there conditions and promise(s) you are to
study so you will be properly prepared?
To properly enter into a time of effective prayer that
strikes the mark, the above questions are just some of
the beginning things that need to be considered. As
you can see, there are many valid biblical expressions
of intercessory ministry with different strategies for
implementation.

III. BEING BUILT TOGETHER IN UNITY

A. Communication Is a Vital Key
Communication in relationship is a necessary and vital
key in silencing the lies and the accusations of the
enemy. Remember, … the little foxes … spoil the
vines… (Song of Solomon 2:15, NKJ).
Though, as intercessors we want to keep our primary
focus vertical, working on the horizontal skills of
ethical, clean communications becomes a must in
developing true long-term agreements.
B. Cleansing in Our Relationships
John 14:30 says, …he has nothing in Me (NKJ). Can
we say the same? (More on this in the lesson, “No
Common Ground Allowed”.)
Difficulties, mistakes, failures, hurts and offenses
happen in all our lives. We must learn the lessons of
receiving and giving forgiveness, compassion, the art
of confrontation unto reconciliation, and the
knowledge that the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all
sin (I John 1:9).
C. Key Steps to Take to Be Built Together
1. Consecration
2. Dedication
3. Centered in Christ – not just assignments
4. Believing in one another
5. Covering each other in love
6. Taming the tongue
7. The compassionate art of confronting
8. Walking in loyalty

IV. THE POWER OF AGREEMENT

A. The Reality and Fruit of Agreement
Once again we look at Matthew 18:18-20. Now this
becomes a by-product. It is no longer a mechanical
prayer. Agreement is a by-product of lives being
forged together under His kingdom of righteousness,
peace, and joy.
B. Wisdom from the Writings of the Late John Wimber1

“What Praying in Agreement Is

“We have authority given to us by Jesus to work out
the plan and purpose of God in the world today.
Because authority is placed on us, whatever we agree
with is likely to happen. If you agree with God
regarding something, what you agree about is very
likely to happen. If you agree with the god of this
world that also, will most likely happen.
“The best way to find out whom you are agreeing with
is to run your tape. These tapes are made up on the
thoughts that you are bombarded with all day. They
are pre-programmed. They are either pre-programmed
by God, or by the god of this world.
“To further develop this idea of agreement, there are
two areas that I would like to touch on. The first is
Romans 12 where Paul is dealing with this issue: Do
we live connected with God and one another? His
answer is that we connect ourselves with God and one
another by offering ourselves up in the light of God’s
mercy to Him and to one another. We become one. On
the other hand, there is a conforming to the world. The
world is pre-programmed by the enemy of God. The
enemy has pre-programmed us to certain kinds of
things, (i.e., materialism). Another way of pre-
programming us is by a constant running of the
enemy’s tape, which continually condemns us. If we
agree with that tape, we will live out our life according
to it.
“We need to learn to identify whom we are agreeing
with. If we agree with the tape of the enemy, then there
will be an outward working of that with which we have
agreed, and we will live a life, which is condemned.
Here we have two or more agreeing: the programming
of the devil and us.
“On the other hand, God has another way of looking
at things. He thinks of you as a completely different
kind of an individual. He has sent his own Son to
bring you back to Himself, to make you His. He likes
you. If you want to agree with someone about
something, why don’t you agree with God about Who
He says you are? This is what I would designate as
internal agreement.
“A second kind of agreement is what I would call
external. In Acts 4:23, we find a corporate external
outworking of agreement. Prayer life is directly related
to how we are walking with God. They raised their
voices together to God.
“We have covered these ideas previously, so let me
summarize. They responded as a corporate group and
prayed in agreement. They were outraged by what had
happened to Peter and John. Their first response was
to pray: a cacophony of prayer, (i.e., harsh or
discordant sound, harshness in the sound of words or
phrases), and a harmonized prayer, one of spirit,
desire; a prayer that God would rule in this present
circumstance (v. 32). All believers were one in heart
and mind (cf. Acts 2:1). If one is going to learn to pray
in agreement, one has to learn to be of one heart and
one mind.”
C. Closing Exhortation
Learning to pray in agreement, based on Matthew 18,
is not some kind of methodological activity, which by
saying it, you have accomplished it. The first one to
come into agreement with is God Himself. This is of
upmost importance. When we set aside our prejudices
and preconceived ideas, we will be candidates for
Prayer that Strike the Mark.
Praying in agreement starts with you and me being
close to the very heart of Christ. Our agreement is
something more than what we simply verbalize. It has
to do with our heart’s attitude. Do we love Jesus and
one another?
Jesus thinks so kindly and fondly of His people. God
has bought you through Jesus! We need to agree with
God concerning how He sees us, and those with
whom we are joined. If you learn to agree with Him,
your agenda, motivation and even assignments will
change.
Agreement will have its reward. If we are indeed in
agreement, we will pray in one accord. Then we will
pray with the Acts 4 dynamic – together in one place -
joined and in agreement. As we do this even the very
place we are praying will be shaken for God’s glory.
Learning to pray in agreement is learning to pray in
God’s will. If our minds are transformed, we will
discover the perfect will of God (Romans 12:2) and out
of our hearts will flow forth prayers where heaven and
earth agree together. Remember, where two or more
harmonize and agree – anything can happen!

Lesson Three: The Many Faces of Prayer
An Exposure to Various Patterns and Models of Prayer

I. VARIETIES OF PRAYER ANOINTING

There are many different faces to prayer, intercessory
anointings or special prayer graces available to the
believer distributed by the Holy Spirit. The following are
twelve expressions of prayer as inspired by the teachings
of Elizabeth Alves and others.2
A. General Intercessors
These prayer warriors love using prayer lists and
never seem to get bored with them! They tend to be
more disciplined and do not depend on a special
unction or burden to come upon them to engage in
their assigned task.
B. Personal Intercessors
These intercessors often bring a person by name to
the Lord for a period of months or even years. They
are not as much project-oriented prayer warriors as
they are personal intercessors for specific people.
C. Financial Intercessors
These are given a gift of faith for finances – both for
individuals, ministries, cities and regions. They love to
intercede for provision to be released for the work of
the ministry or even for the prospering of a city or
nation.
D. Crisis Intercessors
These pray for short-term, emergency-oriented,
situations – wars, natural catastrophes, sickness, etc.
When a crisis occurs these individuals are awakened.
They are suddenly alert, fully engaged and volunteer
freely even in the middle of the night.
E. Spiritual Warfare Intercessors
These are strategic intercessors, praying mainly on-
site. Confronting demonic strongholds is a grace for
these spiritual warfare commandos. The gift of
discerning of spirits is often one of their strengths.
F. Worship Intercessors
Praise and worship creates a flow where inspired
prayers pour forth from these priestly intercessors.
This has many different applications related to the
“Harp and Bowl” emphasis in many of today’s prayer
cultures.
G. Government and Reformation Intercessors
Often these individuals’ ministries pray for state,
national and international leaders by name. They also
tend to pick up moral and legislative issues and carry
them regularly before the throne of grace. Their joy is
to regularly pray for those in authority in government
as well as leaders in all of the seven of cultural
mountains.
H. People Groups and Missions Intercessors
These prayer warriors have a passion to pray through
the 10/40 window; for Muslims, Hindus, Hispanics,
and various people groups of the earth. Mission
endeavors motivate these intercessors. They call forth
for barriers to be pierced and the Gospel of the
Kingdom to emerge in every nation.
I. Salvation and Revival Intercessors
These valuable prayer warriors know the scriptures for
the lost and for laborers. They make great back-up
people for outreach ministries. Like the Salvation
Intercessors, they pray with ease to the Lord of the
Harvest to send forth laborers to the field.
J. Israel Intercessors
These watchmen pray for the peace of Jerusalem, the
Middle East and for God’s purposes amongst the
Jewish people worldwide. They weep over Jerusalem
as Jesus did.
K. Church and Leadership Intercessors
These intercessors are modern day Aarons and Hurs
who lift up the arms of the Moses’s of their
generation. They pray for the unity of the Bride,
revival, leaders and for a hedge of protection to be
raised up around leadership.
L. Prophetic Intercessors
These are those who pray from listening, hearing,
seeing and feeling the burden of the Lord. This grace
combines the office of the Prophet and the Priest of
the Old Testament into one package. They are often
less “agenda-oriented” and more spontaneous
praying by revelation.

II. TEN CATEGORIES OF PRAYER

The following overview comes from the preaching ministry
of the late Kenneth Hagin 3, father of the word of faith
movement. He found in his own ministry ten distinct
1. categories of prayer. They are simply listed as follows:
Intercession
2. Agreement
3. Petition
4. Worship and Thanksgiving
5. Commitment
6. Tongues
7. Binding and Loosing
8. Dedication
9. United Prayer
10. Sanctification

Prayers that Strike the Mark take on many different faces,
expressions and a variety of anointings of the Holy Spirit. You
will find that your prayer expression may change from season
to season in life. Yet, let’s always make sure that Jesus is at the
center of all that we do. After all, this is not just about getting
answers, but receiving and moving the very heart of God
Himself.

Lesson Four: Reminding God of His Word

I. YOU WHO REMIND THE LORD

A. Primary Verse
Isaiah 62:6-7 – On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have
appointed watchmen; all day and all night they will
never keep silent. You who remind the Lord, take no
rest for yourselves; and give Him no rest until He
establishes and makes Jerusalem a praise in the
earth.
B. The Cry of Asaph
Psalms 74:1-2 – O God, why have You cast us off
forever? Why does Your anger smoke against the
sheep of Your pasture? Remember Your congregation,
which You have purchased of old, The tribe of Your
inheritance, which You have redeemed – this Mount
Zion where You have dwelt.
C. The Groan of Desperation of Jeremiah
1. Jeremiah 14:19-22 (NKJV) – Have You utterly
rejected Judah? Has Your soul loathed Zion?
Why have You stricken us so that there is no
healing for us? We looked for peace, but there
was no good; and for the time of healing, and
there was trouble. We acknowledge, O LORD, our
wickedness and the iniquity of our fathers, for we
have sinned against You. Do not abhor us, for
Your name’s sake; do not disgrace the throne of
Your glory. Remember, do not break Your
covenant with us. Are there any among the idols
of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the
heavens give showers? Are You not He, O LORD
our God? Therefore we will wait for You, since
You have made all these.
2. Lamentations 5:1-5, 17-21 (NKJV) – Remember, O
LORD, what has come upon us; look, and behold
our reproach! Our inheritance has been turned
over to aliens, and our houses to foreigners. We
have become orphans and waifs, our mothers are
like widows. We pay for the water we drink, and
our wood comes at a price.
They pursue at our heels; we labor and have no
rest. Because of this our heart is faint; because of
these things our eyes grow dim; because of Mount
Zion which is desolate, with foxes walking about
on it. You, O Lord, remain forever; Your throne
from generation to generation. Why do You forget
us forever, and forsake us for so long a time. Turn
us back to You, O Lord, and we will be restored;
renew our days as of old…
D. Of What Are We to Remind God?
(For a complete study on this subject see the Lesson
“Pleading Our Case” in my Watchmen on the Walls
Study Guide.)
1. Plead the honor and glory of God’s name
2. Plead God’s relationship to you
3. Plead God’s attributes
4. Plead the sorrows and needs of the people
5. Plead the past answers to prayer
6. Plead the Word and the promises of God
7. Plead the blood of Jesus

II. A PREREQUISITE
In order to remind God of His Word, we must first be
intimately acquainted with this precious book of promises,
the Bible.
A. With Christ in the School of Prayer by Andrew
Murray5
If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ye
shall ask what ye will and it shall be done unto you
(John 15:7, KJV).
“The vital connection between the Word and prayer is
one of the simplest and earliest lessons of the
Christian life. As the newly converted heathen put it,
“I pray – I speak to my Father; I read – my Father
speaks to me.” Before prayer, God’s Word strengthens
me by giving my faith its justification and petition. In
prayer, God’s Word prepares me by revealing what the
Father wants me to ask. After prayer, God’s Word
brings me the answer, for in it the Spirit allows me to
hear the Father’s voice.
“It is the connection between His Word and our
prayer that Jesus points to when He says, ‘If ye abide
in Me, and My words abide in you, ye shall ask what
ye will, and it shall be done unto you.’ The deep
importance of this truth becomes clear if we notice the
expression which this one replaces. More than once
Jesus said, ‘Abide in Me and I in you.’ His abiding in
us was the complement and the crown of our abiding
in Him. But here, instead of Ye in Me and I in you, He
says, ‘Ye in Me and My words in you.’ The abiding of
His words is the equivalent of Himself abiding.
“God is the infinite Being in whom everything is life,
power, spirit, and truth – in the very deepest meaning
of the words. When God reveals Himself in His words,
He does indeed give Himself – His love and His life,
His will and His power – to those who receive these
words, in a reality that surpasses our comprehension.
In every promise, He gives us the power to grasp and
possess Himself. In every command, He allows us to
share His will, His holiness, and His perfection. God’s
Word gives us God Himself!
“That Word is nothing less than the Eternal Son,
Christ Jesus. Therefore, all of Christ’s words are God’s
words, full of a Divine and quickening life and power.
The words I speak unto you, they are spirit and they
are life. If My words abide in you. The condition is
simple and clear. In His words, His will is revealed. As
the words abide in me, His will rules me. My will
becomes the empty vessel which His will finds, and
the willing instrument which His will rules.”
B. Prayer and the Word of God by Dr. Robert T.
Billings 6
“Prayer may be defined as that force which vitalizes
and energizes the Word of God; with the subsequent
results that the pray-er receives answers.
“The Word of God is absolutely essential to prayer,
even as oxygen is to breathing or nourishment is to
health. Therefore, we must be assured, absolutely, that
the Bible is the Word of God if we are to claim His
promises. The following are ten reasons why we can
know the Bible is the Word of God:
1. Because of its amazing unity.
2. Because of its indestructability.
3. Because of its historical accuracy.
4. Because of its scientific accuracy.
5. Because of its prophetic accuracy.
6. Because of its care and copy.
7. Because of its universal appeal.
8. Because of its amazing circulation.
9. Because of its absolute honesty.
10. Because of its power to save.”
C. Prayer of Dependency from Andrew Murray7
“Blessed Lord! I see why my prayer has not been more
believing and effective. I was more occupied with my
speaking to You than with Your speaking to me. I did
not understand that the secret of faith is this: there
can be only as much faith as there is of the living
Word dwelling in the soul.
“Your Word taught me so clearly to be swift to hear
and slow to speak, and not to be hasty to say just
anything to God. Lord, teach me that it is only when I
take Your Word into my life that my words can be
taken into Your heart. Teach me that if Your Word is a
living power within me, it will be a living power with
You, also. Show me that what Your mouth has spoken,
Your hand will perform.
“Lord Jesus! Deliver me from the uncircumcised ear!
Give me the opened ear of the learner, wakened
morning by morning to hear the Father’s voice. Just as
You speak only what You hear from the Father, may my
speaking be the echo of Your speaking to me. When
Moses went into the tabernacle to speak with Him, he
heard the voice of One speaking unto from off the
mercy seat.
“Lord, may it be so with me, too. Let my life and
character reveal that Your words abide and are seen in
me. May this be my preparation for the complete
blessing: ‘Ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be
done unto you.’ Amen.”

III. THE NECESSITY OF THE THREE-FOLD GRACE OF

GOD
A. Primary Verse
I Thessalonians 1:2, 5 - We give thanks to God always
for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers;
… for our Gospel did not come to you in word only,
but also in power and in the Holy Spirit with full
conviction; just as you know what kind of men we
proved to be among you for your sake.
This gives us one general request with three specific
aspects to it.
B. The Gifts of the Spirit – The Power of God in Our
Lives
1. I Corinthians 12:7-9 – Nine gifts of the Holy Spirit.
2. Acts 8:18 – Holy Spirit falls on those on whom we
lay hands.
3. Acts 2:17 – Spirit of revelation.
4. Acts 2:1-4 – Corporate release of Holy Spirit
power.
5. Hebrews 1:14 – Release of the ministry of angels
to the Body of Christ.
6. Matthew 17:21; Luke 9:1 – Special anointing to
exercise authority over demons.
C. The Fruit of the Spirit – The Character of God in Our
Lives
1. Pray for the release of conviction that results in
godly character in those who hear, instead of
explaining the details and value of obedience –
John 16:8 – The conviction or revelation of sin, of
righteousness, and of judgment.
2. Pray for the release of the fear of God, peace, and
joy (the comfort) of the Holy Spirit (Acts 9:31; II
Thessalonians 2:16-17; 3:16; II Corinthians 1:3-4).
3. Pray for a release of righteousness, peace, and joy
(Romans 14:17; 15:13; II Thessalonians 3:16).
4. Pray for the power of the Word upon the hearers.
a) Sword that pierces the hearts of hearers –
Hebrews 4:12b.
b) Fire that consumes the hearts of hearers –
Isaiah 33:13-14.
c) Hammer that shatters the hearts of hearers –
Jeremiah 23:29.
d) Arrow that pierces – Psalms 45:5.
e) Example – Acts 2:37-41.
D. The Wisdom of God - The Administration of God’s
Purposes
1. Administration of God’s purposes in the corporate
Church - Ephesians 1:17; 3:9-10.
2. Eye salve – Revelation 3:18.
3. Teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit – John 14:16,
26; 16:13-15, 26-27.
4. Direction for a specific church or ministry –
Colossians 1:9-10; 4:12.
5. Personal direction – James 1:5; Psalms 25:5; 43:3-4.
Once again, when we add these ingredients from the Word of
God together we will have Prayers that Strike the Mark!

Lesson Five: Removing the Obstacles

I. PRIMARY SCRIPTURES FROM ISAIAH

A. Isaiah 57:14
And it shall be said, “Build up, build up, prepare the
way, remove every obstacle out of the way of My
people.”
B. Isaiah 58:12
And those from among you will rebuild the ancient
ruins; you will raise up the age-old foundations; and
you will be called the repairer of the breach, the
restorer of the streets in which to dwell.
C. Isaiah 62:10
Go through, go through the gates; clear the way for
the people; build up, build up the highway; remove
the stones, lift up a standard over the peoples.

II. SIN IS AN OBSTACLE THAT MUST BE CONFESSED

TO BE REMOVED
A. Remove Every Obstacle
Isaiah tells us we are to remove every obstacle out of
the way of My people… (Isaiah 57:14) to clear the way
and remove the stones (Isaiah 62:10).
This must first be done before we can fulfill the next
admonition to Build up (Isaiah 62:10) … repair the
breach … [and] restore the streets (Isaiah 58:12).
B. Blockades that Must be Removed
1. Psalms 66:18 – If I regard wickedness in my heart,
the Lord will not hear me.
2. Proverbs 28:9 – He who turns his ear from
listening to the law, even his prayer is an
abomination.
3. Deuteronomy 5:6-10 – I am the Lord your God,
who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of
the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods
before Me. You shall not make for yourself an
idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above
or on the earth beneath or in the water under the
earth. You shall not worship them or serve them;
for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children,
and on the third and the fourth generations of
those who hate Me, but showing loving kindness
to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My
commandments.
4. Proverbs 15:8 – The sacrifice of the wicked is an
abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the
upright is His delight.
C. Confession Defined
1. From Vine’s Expository Dictionary of New
Testament Words, “to speak the same thing, to
assent, accord, agree with;” denotes either:
a) To confess, declare, admit – John 1:20; Acts
24:14.
b) To confess by way of admitting oneself guilty
of what one is accused of, the result of inward
conviction – I John 1:9.
c) To declare openly by way of speaking out
freely, such confession being the effect of
deep conviction of facts – Matthew 7:23;
10:32; Luke 12:8.
2. From Webster’s Dictionary:
a) To tell or make known (as something wrong or
damaging to oneself); to admit.
b) To acknowledge (sin) to God or to a priest.
c) To receive the confession of (a penitent).
d) To declare faith in or adherence to; to profess.
e) To give evidence of.

III. THE ORDER OF MORNING PRAYER – FROM THE

ANGLICAN BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER8
(All Scriptures here are KJV unless otherwise noted.)
A. Foundational Scriptures
1. …when the wicked man turneth away from his
wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth
that which is lawful and right, he will save his
soul alive. – Ezekiel 18:27
2. …I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is
ever before me. – Psalms 51:3
3. Hide Thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine
iniquities. – Psalms 51:9
4. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a
broken and a contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt
not despise. – Psalms 51:17
5. …rend your heart, and not your garments, and
turn unto the Lord your God: for He is gracious
and merciful, slow to anger, and of great
kindness, and repenteth him of the evil. – Joel 2:13
6. To the Lord our God belong mercies and
forgiveness, though we have rebelled against
Him; neither have we obeyed the voice of the
Lord our God, to walk in His laws, which He set
before us. – Daniel 9:9-10
7. O Lord, correct me, but with judgment; not in
Thine anger, lest Thou bring me to nothing. –
Jeremiah 10:24; also see Psalms 6:1.
8. …Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at
hand. – Matthew 3:2
9. I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto
him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven, and
before Thee, and am no more worthy to be called
Thy son…” – Luke 15:18-19a
10. …enter not into judgment with Thy servant: for in
Thy sight shall no man living be justified. –
Psalms 143:2
11. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive
ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess
our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our
sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
– I John 1:8-9
B. Reading by the Minister:
“Dearly beloved brethren, the Scripture moveth us in
sundry places to acknowledge and confess our
manifold sins and wickedness; and that we should not
dissemble nor cloak them before the face of Almighty
God our heavenly Father; but confess them with an
humble, lowly, penitent, and obedient heart, to the end
that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by His
infinite goodness and mercy. And although we ought
at all times humbly acknowledge our sins before God;
yet ought we most chiefly so to do, when we assemble
and meet together to render thanks for the great
benefits that we have received at His hands, to set
forth His most worthy praise, to hear His most holy
Word, and to ask those things which are requisite and
necessary, as well for the body as the soul. Wherefore
I pray and beseech you, as many as are here present,
to accompany me with a pure heart, and humble voice,
unto the throne of the heavenly grace, saying after
me;”
C. A General Confession:
“Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred,
and strayed from Thy ways like lost sheep. We have
followed too much the devices and desires of our own
hearts. We have offended against Thy holy laws. We
have left undone those things which we ought to have
done; and we have done those things which we ought
not to have done; and there is no health in us. But
Thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable
offenders. Spare Thou them, O God, which confess
their faults. Restore Thou them that are penitent;
according to Thy promises declared unto mankind in
Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful
Father, for His sake; that we may hereafter live a godly,
righteous, and sober life, to the glory of Thy holy
name. Amen.” (This normally is followed by the Prayer
of Absolution or Remission of Sins, spoken by the
minister.)

IV. SUMMARY THOUGHTS

A. New Understandings
In the fall of 1992, while ministering in New York City,
the Lord spoke to me and said, “I am going to release
new understandings of identification in intercession
whereby the legal basis of the rights of the powers of
the air to remain will be removed.”
Over the years, I have reflected deeply on this Word
from the Lord and this particular subject. Perhaps the
Holy Spirit is revealing part of God’s strategy to bring
cleansing, removal of oppression, and release of His
presence. May it be so! May we learn to follow in the
ancient pathways and rediscover the art of removing
the blockades that stand in the way.
(There is more on this subject in this study guide in
“Lesson 9: No Common Ground Allowed.”)
B. A Corporate Cry
There is a common understanding in Christianity of
the need to individually admit (confess) our personal
faults, failures, or sins to God and ask to be forgiven
and cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ.
But we are taught by the model prayer of Jesus to cry
out, “Our Father … forgive us our sins as we forgive
those who have sinned against us.” Could it be that
this prayer of Jesus goes beyond “devotional prayer”
and is a call to united prayer where we identify with
the needs of our families, people groups, cities and
nations? Yes, there is a corporate cry that needs to be
expressed.
We are called not just to confess our individual sins,
but also to step into the gap, and lift up the
intercessory plea of our corporate faults, failures, and
sins. We admit not only our personal shortcomings,
but we include the larger boundaries of our families,
cities, nations, both of the secular community and the
Body of Christ.
The same is true of the prayers for blessings. As New
Testament believers in Jesus, we are to identify with
our many spheres of responsibility and authority and
stand before God both for the removal of the blockage
of sin and various curses, as well as moving in the
opposite spirit and then releasing the power of
proclamation. We must call forth destiny and
prophetic purposes. We call forth the release of hope,
provision, and promise.
After all, God does not leave us only personally
cleansed from sin and our pasts. He calls us up higher
into the realities where “all things are possible.” (See
Jeremiah 29:11-14.) But first, for our Prayers to Strike
the Mark, we must remove the obstacles that are in the
way.

“Identification in Intercession” in my Watchmen on
the Walls Study Guide and my book Intercession: The
Power and Passion to Shape History.)
Reflection Questions
Lesson Five: Removing the Obstacles

Answers to these questions can be found in the back of the

study guide.

Fill in the Blank

1. In order to remove every obstacle in our lives,

_____________ must be confessed.

2. Psalms 66:18 states, “If I regard _______________ in my

heart, the Lord will not hear me.”
3. Proverbs 15:8 … the prayer of the upright is God’s
_______________ .

Multiple Choice – Choose the best answer from the list below:
A. Isaiah 62:10 C. Deceive
B. Corporate D. Webster

4. We are not only to confess individual sins but

________________ sins as well.
5. If we say we have no sin, we _______________
ourselves.

True or False
One definition of confession in Webster’s dictionary is,
6. “to give evidence of.” ________

7. According to the Anglican Book of Common Prayer there

are six orders of morning prayer. ________

8. The word confess means to declare, admit. ________

Scripture Memorization
9. Write out Proverbs 15:8 and memorize it.

10. What was the primary insight you gained from this lesson,
and how will you apply it to your life?
Lesson Six: Exposing Doorways to Darkness

I. THE LEGAL BASIS THAT EMPOWERS DEMONIC

SPIRITS
Demonic spirits have no true authority to influence an area
without permission. Certain conditions give them authority
to set up a base of operations from which they exercise
their oppression. What are some of these conditions?
A. Idolatry
1. Exodus 20:1-5
2. Deuteronomy 7:5, 25-26
3. I Corinthians 10:19-20
B. Temples to Pagan Religions
1. Perhaps this deals not only with the construction
of “high places” of demonic and occult worship,
but more subtle destructive forms such as
Masonic Lodges, etc. (See the book entitled Gods
of the New Age by Caryl Matrisciana.) Numbers
35:52; II Kings 17:11; 18:4; Psalms 78:58; Jeremiah
19:5; 32:35.
2. During President Eisenhower’s time a mosque that
had been erected was dedicated in 1957 in
Washington, DC so that foreign diplomats would
have a place for their Islamic worship. When
Eisenhower visited Afghanistan in 1959 he was
encouraged by the American Christians in Kabul
to ask the King for permission for a church to be
built in Kabul where Christian diplomats and other
foreigners could worship since a mosque had just
been dedicated in the U.S. for foreign Islamic
diplomats to have a place of worship. The okay
finally came in 1960, but the actual building did
not begin until 1969 and was completed in 1970.
Ironically, the church was destroyed a few years
later, while the mosque still stands to this day.
This was an opening in the city and the seat of
government that allowed the demonic power of
Islam entrance into the U.S.A.9
C. Murder and the Shedding of Innocent Blood
1. Scriptures to consider:
a) Thou shalt not kill - Exodus 20:13, KJV.
b) Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall
his blood be shed: for in the image of God
made He man – Genesis 9:6 (KJV).
c) For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I
have given it to you upon the altar to make
an atonement for your souls: for it is the
blood that maketh an atonement for the soul
– Leviticus 17:11, KJV.
d) …for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof:
whosoever eateth it shall be cut off –
Leviticus 17:14b, KJV.
e) So ye shall not pollute the land, wherein ye
are: for blood it defileth the land: and the
land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is
shed therein, but by the blood of him that
shed it – Numbers 35:33, KJV.
2. Of course, today we deal with both “external
wars” such as the Trail of Tears in the United
States history with great shedding of blood. But
we must also deal with the “internal wars” of
infants legally killed while hidden in the supposed
sanctuary of their mother’s womb. Blood speaks
out! But we must learn that the blood of Jesus
speaks a higher cry – that of mercy!
D. Witchcraft
1. At first Satan only requires the blood of animals.
But the more control he gains in a society, the
more he demands — thus human sacrifice. See
Leviticus 20:6.
2. Great Britain alone has an estimated 40,000 people
actively involved in witchcraft and magic. In
certain parts of the world, satanic worship and
witchcraft are the fastest growing religions.
E. The Removal of Prayer and Bible Reading from Our
Educational Institutions

1. Scriptures:
a) Exodus 12:26-28
b) Deuteronomy 4:9
c) Deuteronomy 6:7
2. Since the moment prayer was considered unlawful
in the U.S. public education system, our country
has had a disintegration of society. When God
was “kicked out”, the god of secular humanism
filled the void. When we assume God’s position
and take it upon ourselves to solve problems that
only Deity can handle, we make ourselves out to
be gods. The worship of self is dangerously evil;
if we continue in this way, we will destroy the
coming generations and ourselves.
F. Adultery, Sodomy, Perversion, and All Sexual Sins
1. Adultery – Leviticus 20:10.
2. Sodomy – Leviticus 18:22; Romans 1:24-28;
Deuteronomy 23:17; Leviticus 20:13.
3. Incest, bestiality – Leviticus 18 and 20.
G. Substance Abuse – Alcoholism, Drugs, etc.

1. Much of this is nothing more than witchcraft

under a “fun, deceptive, disguise”.
2. Revelation 17 and 18.
3. Revelation 21:8.

H. Fighting, Anger, Hatred, Cursing, and Unforgiveness

1. Scriptures:
a) Joshua 6:26; I Kings 16:34
b) Proverbs 17:13
c) Matthew 27:24-26; John 19:15
d) Romans 12:14; I Corinthians 4:12; I Peter 3:9
e) Matthew 18:21-35
2. The necessity of clean hearts as we approach the
communion table – I Corinthians 11:27-30.
3. Proper relationships with those in authority –
Leviticus 20:9; I Corinthians 5:1; Judges 16:20-31;
II Corinthians 6:14-16; Exodus 20:12.
I. Summary of Curses – Causes and Cures
Read Deuteronomy 28:1-14, 15-68.
1. Twelve Possible Causes:
a) Idolatry, false gods, the occult.
b) Dishonoring parents.
c) Illicit or unnatural sex.
d) Injustice to the weak or helpless.
e) Trusting in the arm of the flesh.
f) Stealing or perjury.
g) Stingy with God financially.
h) Words spoken by persons with relational
authority.
i) Self-imposed curses.
j) Words pronounced by persons representing
k) Satan: Soulish prayers, utterances spoken in
wrong attitudes and gossip.
l) Unscriptural covenants.
2. Results of Curses:
a) Mental and emotional breakdown.
b) Repeated chronic sickness (especially when
there is no clear medical reason).
d) Repeated miscarriages and female problems,
c)
e) Breakdown of family, resulting in alienation,
Continuing financial insufficiency (especially
where income appears to be sufficient).
f) Continuously accident-prone.
g) Family history of suicides or unnatural deaths.
(This subject is covered in detail in my book and study guide
Deliverance from Darkness and is a class available in the God
Encounters Training online school.)

10. What was the primary insight you gained from this lesson,
and how will you apply it to your life?
Lesson Seven: Confessing Generational Sins

I. BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF CONFESSING CORPORATE

SIN
A. Daniel’s Example
1. Meditation on the Word. Daniel was pondering on
the words of Jeremiah 29:10-14 (this is stated in
Daniel 9:2). He apparently was convicted and
enlightened by the Scripture. This possibly
occurred in the 63rd year of their Babylonian
captivity.
2. He did not respond presumptuously, but rather
sought for the Spirit’s remedy so the promise
could be fulfilled.
3. As he meditated on God’s prophetic desire, he
realized there were blockades that must be
removed before the promise would be fulfilled.
4. He laid aside self-justification (Luke 18:12-13; the
Pharisee and Publican syndrome).
5. He set his face to pray with humility (Daniel 9:3).
6. Daniel confessed their sin as his own (Daniel 9:4-
17).
7. Then he pleaded with the Lord for mercy for His
own name’s sake (Daniel 9:18-19).
B. Nehemiah’s Example
1. A report was brought to Nehemiah that saddened
his heart. They said to me, “The remnant there in
the province who survived the captivity are in
great distress and reproach, and the wall of
Jerusalem is broken down and its gates are
burned with fire.” - Nehemiah 1:3.
2. He then wept and mourned for days under this
burden (Nehemiah 1:4).
3. This resulted in petitions beginning with respect
and adoration (Nehemiah 1:5).
4. He then confessed the sin of the sons of Israel
saying, “I and my father’s house have sinned. We
have acted very corruptly against You…”
(Nehemiah 1:6b -7a).
5. Nehemiah then reminded God of His prophetic
promise to Moses (Nehemiah 1:8-9).
6. He then made an appeal to God on the basis of the
redemptive work that He had done (Nehemiah
1:10).
7. He also implored God for favor with the king and
asked for success (Nehemiah 1:11).
C. Ezra’s Example
1. The princes approached Ezra with a report
concerning the abomination of the people; the
priests and the Levites were intermarrying with the
people of the land (Ezra 9:1-2).
2. Ezra then tore his garment and robe, plucked some
of his hair and beard, and sat down appalled (Ezra
9:3).
3. Those who trembled at the words of God joined
Ezra in shock and humiliation (Ezra 9:4).
4. Ezra then arose from his humiliation (fasting), fell
on his knees and hands, and began to cry out to
the Lord (Ezra 9:5).
5. He names the sin as his own, as a priestly
spokesman before God and states “their”
iniquities, guilt, shame, and embarrassment (Ezra
9:6-7). Notice the complete absence of a self-
righteous attitude.
6. He recalls God’s grace, faithfulness, and loving
kindness, and amidst all of the sin, gives them a
purpose of revival and restoration (Ezra 9:8-9).
7. He acknowledges that God has requited them less
than their iniquities deserve (Ezra 9:10-13).
8. He then speaks to the Lord concerning the
importance of maintaining the remnant (Ezra 9:14-
15).
9. Ezra then weeps bitterly with repentance before
the house of God (Ezra 10:1).
10. Shecaniah joins in the cry for repentance and says
that they will put aside their wrong doings and
make a covenant with God and follow Ezra in the
path of righteousness and restoration (Ezra 10:2-
4).
11. Ezra calls the offenders forward over a three-day
period to publicly repent (Ezra 10:5-8).
12. They are charged then with their sin and personal
confession is made with a vow to do what is right
(Ezra 10:9-17).10

II. CURRENT-DAY EXAMPLES

A. Confessing and Forgiving the Generational Sins
1. Ministries of New Life in Kansas City, Missouri
led a unified, citywide pastors’ effort for research
to be done concerning the six Native American
tribes that had existed in the Kansas City area at
the founding of the city. Chiefs of these six First
Nations tribes, still in existence today, came to
Kansas City in the early 1990’s for a CityWide
Reconciliation Meeting. The pastoral leadership of
the area repented to these representatives for the
many atrocities and breaking of treaties that were
committed against them. I was present as prayers
and statements of reconciliation were offered by
the leadership and accepted by the Indian chief
representatives. This was the first public act of
reconciliation that had occurred in North America
of this nature. Many such acts of confession and
repentance have since been held at other
locations across the country.
2. Example of confession of sin concerning the Sand
Creek Massacre of 1864 in Colorado.
Many Native Americans throughout the United
States feel that the greatest offense of prejudice,
wounding and bitterness is the Sand Creek
Massacre. “In 1864 an ordained Methodist
minister organized the atrocity with the
cooperation of the governor of Colorado for petty
political gain. Over 150 non-hostile Indians,
mostly old men, women and children, were
slaughtered and defiled in perverted ways. These
people had been told they were safe under the
protection of the government. They were flying
the American flag, believing that peace with the
white man was possible.
A stronghold is a place of wounds and unresolved
guilt, giving a place for the infestation of the
enemy. Because of the tragedy, demonic
influences and spirits were released at the place…
We acknowledged the sins and injustices that
were committed on the land through that atrocity.
We humbled ourselves in repentance before God
and before the Native Americans who were
present. The Native Americans stood in the gap
for their people and spoke forgiveness.”11
B. Research of a City
1. In Nashville, Tennessee much work has been done
over the years on this particular issue. This
resulted in a complete manual being written up
concerning the history of Music City, U.S.A. With
Nashville being the birthing-ground of country
western, southern gospel music, and
contemporary Christian music, as well as the
recording capital of the world, it was felt that the
proper approach to “cleaning up the industry”
would be by doing research on the foundations of
the city.
After much research, sins were found concerning
prostitution in the origins of the city. This has led
to prayers of repentance by various groups for the
way the gospel has been “prostituted” through
the music industry in Music City U. S. A. in hopes
of changes coming in this arena. Let it be!12
2. Example of Lou Engle in Pasadena, California –
excerpts taken from Lou’s book, Redigging the
Wells of Revival.13 “The original water source of
Pasadena and Los Angeles is a dam bearing the
name of Devil’s Gate…”
A 1947 Pasadena Star-News article said, “Its true
[that Devil’s Gate is named because of the
resemblance of the rocks to his satanic majesty.”
The Lord gave me a word from the passage where
Elisha poured salt into the water source of Jericho
and healed the contaminated waters (II Kings 2:19-
22). Then it struck me with much force to go pour
salt as an act of prophetic intercession into the
stream at Devil’s Gate, to ask forgiveness on
behalf of our forefathers for naming it such, to
break the curse and ask for revival to be poured
out on Pasadena.
We asked God to release rivers of life and
fruitfulness into the parched lives of thousands.
At that time the drought in Southern California
had been going on for five years…Eight days
later, the rains began to pour so much that the
newspapers called the month “Miracle March.”
Hahamongna — That’s the name the Gabrielinos
[early Pasadena Indians] gave to what was
renamed Devil’s Gate, the 250-acre area at the
north end of the Arroyo Seco…The English-
language translation is “Flowing Waters: Fruitful
Valley.”
Soon after the prayers…but without the direct
involvement [of those who prayed], the city of
Pasadena began the process of officially restoring
the original name to the site while revitalizing
some of the natural terrain.

III. FROM MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCES

A. Beginnings in Prague, Czech Republic
I was privileged to speak at a conference in Prague,
Czechoslovakia in 1991. It was a tremendous time in
the presence of the Lord with different ethnic groups
humbling themselves toward one another. The Czechs
forgave the Slovaks and vice versa. This was very
important as these two people groups separated later
and became two nations: Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Other acts of repentance occurred with the Germans
confessing their sins to the Jews and the Czechs, as
well as the Russians to the Czechs and Slovaks for
their occupation of their nation.
It was felt that this was an important event to occur
before Czechoslovakia ceased to exist as one nation
and the two new nations of Czech Republic and
Slovakia began.
B. Reconciliation of the Central European Nations
In 1994, I was again blessed to participate in a
gathering held outside of Prague, Czech Republic,
called the Reconciliation Conference of Central
Europe. The focus of this event was concerning the
terrible war being fought in the former Yugoslavia.
Representatives from numerous nations were present.
The first day was spent in personal repentance. The
second day was spent in confessing the sins of our
individual nations. The third day was dedicated to
confessing the sins of the Church. Then there was a
time of corporate renouncing of the sins of the region
and spiritual warfare.
I had a powerful experience preceding the last day of
prayer that was used to focus intercession on
intervention in the war being fought in the mountains
outside of Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina. It was a
powerful time of intervention and a turning point in
the regional war.
I was called to share before all the leaders as the only
“western world” leader present. Then I asked to lead
in prayer. The “word of the Lord” came forth and the
arrow of victory was shot forth resulting in a
breakthrough in the escalating regional war as the
prayer was released to Strike the Mark.

IV. CLOSING QUOTE FROM JOHN DAWSON14

Ambassador of YWAM and International Speaker
“In responding to the broken heart of God, we must
identify with the sins of the city in personal and corporate
repentance. When Nehemiah prayed for the restoration of
Jerusalem, he did not pray for the city as if he were not
part of it. He said, ‘I and this people have sinned.’
(Nehemiah 1:6-7)
“You may be a righteous person who is not involved in
any direct way with the vices present in your city. But
there is no temptation that is not common to humanity. We
can all identify with the roots of any given sin. When we
ask for God’s mercy on others, we should never say, ‘How
could they do such a thing?’ We know exactly how they
could do it, because the potential for the worst evil lies
within each one of us, apart from God’s saving grace and
the life of Christ within us.
“Through repentance, reconciliation, and prayer, the
present generation can work to repair the broken-down
walls of the city. As you stand in the gap for your city,
allow the Holy Spirit to shine the bright light of truth into
the inner rooms of your soul. Run from the religious deceit
that would seduce you into believing that you are superior
to any person. It is only by the blood of the Lamb and the
power of the Spirit that we stand free from the chains of
guilt and the sentence of death.
“It is only when God has cleansed our own wicked hearts
that participation in the redeeming work of intercession
becomes possible. It is then that the power to change
history is released through prayer.”
As we continue in our pilgrimage of learning to release Prayers
that Strike the Mark, we are discovering the necessity of
research, prophetic revelation, discernment, Confessing
Generational Sin, and much more. Do not give up on Reminding
God of His Word. Let’s remain Jesus centered and not caught
in the ditch of either pride or self-abasement. Yes, let’s Remove
the Obstacles but let us also learn to be solution oriented.
There are NO problems in heaven. Let us then arise, cleansed
and declare, “History belongs to the intercessor!”

10. What was the primary insight you gained from this lesson,
and how will you apply it to your life?
Lesson Eight: Praying On-Site with Insight

I. WHAT IS IT, ANYWAY?

A. It Is a Fresh Approach to the Ministry of Intercession
1. “Across the globe God is stirring ordinary
believers to pray persistently while walking their
cities street by street. Some use rather well
arranged plans. Others flow with Spirit-given
prompts. Their prayers run the gamut from lofty
appeals to pinpoint petitions, ranging beyond
their own homes to their neighbors. It is hard to
stop there, so most of them eventually burst into
prayers for the entire campus or city or nation. No
quick fix is envisioned. But expectancy seems to
expand with every mile. Most of these prayers
don’t imagine themselves to be just bravely
holding flickering candles toward an
overwhelming darkness. Rather, long fuses are
being lit for anticipated explosions of God’s
love.”15
2. Every day believers are praying, house-by-house,
in their neighborhoods. Churches are coming
together and spreading out to diverse
neighborhoods. Students are marching in quiet
prayer throughout their high schools and college
campuses. Groups of intercessors are praying
across counties, whole countries and even
continents.
B. Clarifying the Concept
1. Directed intercession – A target is painted and
research is done.
2. Intentional praying – Purposeful, preset period of
time.
3. On-site – This is simply praying in the very places
where you expect your prayers to be answered!
4. With insight – Research and geographical
identification, combined with dependency on the
Holy Spirit’s guidance, conviction, repentance,
etc. (It is responsive, researched, and revealed
insight.)
5. A refreshment – Not a replacement for normal
prayer meetings.
C. Purpose of On-Site Prayers in a Location
1. It helps to thaw the ice.
2. It helps the sincere believer to overcome fear.
3. It helps you to identify with your surroundings.
4. It motivates you to get God’s heart for the area or
region.
5. Confess geographic and generational sin.
6. Proclaim promises over the area.
7. Worship God with all your heart.

II. BIBLICAL PRECEDENTS

A. Abraham – The Pioneer
1. Read Genesis 13:14-17.
2. This is a matter of vision – Abraham was told to
survey the land. (vs. 14-15)
3. Then he was instructed to walk about the land.
(vs. 17a)
4. This was the manner in which the Lord would give
them the land. (vs. 17b)
B. Joshua – Commander in the Field
1. Read Numbers 13:17-20.
2. They were surveying the promise and the
opposition they were facing and told to bring
some of the fruit. (vs. 20)
3. Assessing the enemy – Numbers 13:28-29.
4. Intimidation came from comparing their strength
and resources to that of the enemies – Numbers
13:31-33; Numbers 14:1.
5. Maintaining proper vision was the key – Numbers
14:7-9.
6. A glance at Caleb and Joshua’s success.
a) They had a different spirit – Numbers 14:24.
b) They followed the Lord fully – Deuteronomy
1:36; Joshua14:9.
C. Jesus’ Example
1. Read Luke 10:1-16; Matthew 10:40.
2. Jesus’ anguish over Jerusalem as he overlooked
the city-Luke 13:34-35; Luke 19:41-44.
3. A cry for laborers proceeded as He saw the great
need of the people – Matthew 9:35-38.

III. CURRENT-DAY EXAMPLES

A. March for Jesus Movement
This began in England and spread as an annual event
across the globe emphasizing the power of praise in
the streets of major cities. It has been a tool that has
been wonderfully used to unite Christians from
various backgrounds around the world. It has faded in
much of the Western World culture but still remains as
a strong worship and prayer force in South America.
B. Norm Stone and Walk Across America for Life
Based out of Spokane, Washington, Norm has walked
across the continental United States, carrying Baby
Choice, seven times. This is a prophetic intercessory
act calling forth compassion and repentance for the
sin of abortion.
C. The Trail of Tears
Several different ministries over the years have
performed various acts including prayer walks and
prayer rallies along the historic Trail of Tears where the
First Nations people of the United States were
displaced from their homelands by government order.
This has resulted in the U. S. House of
Representatives passing an official apology to the
First Nations people. The state of Tennessee has also
responded, not only with an apology, but a Resolution
of thankfulness for the righteous work done for the
sake of restitution.

IV. PRAYER AT SPECIAL PLACES

A. Work Places
Pray through your place of employment with integrity.
Remember to release blessings wherever you go!
B. Sites for Consecrated Use
Ask for certain properties to be released back into
God’s purposes. At times it is appropriate to re-dig the
ancient wells of revival and visitation according to
Genesis 26.
C. Overlook Points
Intercede at elevated sites overseeing a city or region.
Often, acts of the occult and witchcraft have occurred
at these locations. Let’s seek for wisdom and
applications while reclaiming the “high places” for the
Lord. Declaring the Word of God is always a Prayer
that Strikes the Mark!
D. Sites of Harm or Tragedy
Pray at sites of tragic events. Here we enter into
indentificational repentance with a cry of mercy
emerging. (This is a form of confessing generational
sins as covered in the previous lesson.) Realize that
spilled blood ever speaks before the Lord for
vengeance. But lift the cry of the blood of Jesus and
declare, “Mercy triumphs over judgment.”
E. Sites Wrongly Named or Cursed
Investigate the meaning and the history of a name,
and calling out to God to bring change. Look into the
heart of God for His prophetic destiny and declare His
purposes.
F. Sites of Past Sin
Sins committed at these sites are thought to give
entrance to demonic powers. In the same way that sins
of parents can have ongoing consequences for the
next generation(s), so the cumulative sin of one
generation can reverberate throughout an entire
society for generations.
One of the best ways to touch past events is to
actually visit the sites of significant events and plead
the blood of Jesus. (Cut off curses and identify with
blessings.)
G. Sites of Ongoing Sin
Treat places of sin as choice sites for repentance.
Humbly call forth for God’s grace to abound where
darkness prevails. Consider consecrating the land
back to the Lord including as an act of receiving the
Lord’s Supper or Communion.
H. Sites of Strongholds
If evil powers are suspected to be functioning, it might
be an important prayer assignment. This should be
done by confirmation, wisdom, and staying within
biblical guidelines. It is best to pray in relational
agreement and with those with delegated spheres of
authority and influence. But take a stand and
renounce the powers of darkness and invoke blessing
in Jesus name!
I. The Gates of the City
Gates were places where respected elders governed,
such as town halls, courtrooms, and major centers.
The elders sit at the gates of the cities. Ask the Lord
for righteous leadership to be raised up instead.
Identify the problem and proclaim the promise!
J. High Places
The sole purpose in the Scripture of High Places was
that of worship. Enter into the extravagant praise to
God! Release the power of the High Praises and trust
God to perform His word according to Psalms 149. Call
forth the release of the warrior angels of the Lord to do
battle on your behalf.

V. WHAT TO DO – HOW TO ENGAGE

A. Extravagantly Praise the Lord!
Lavishly pour out your praises to God. This releases
God’s angels to bind the forces of darkness with the
chains of praise. This is an honor for His godly ones;
praise the Lord!
B. Pray for Intervention
Humble yourself under the mighty hand of God and
receive His grace and empowerment and then exercise
your right to petition His Majesty for crisis
intervention. (See the Lesson on “Crisis Intervention”
in my Revival Breakthrough Study Guide.)
C. Proclaim God’s Purposes!
Reach into the heart of God and proclaim His
prophetic purposes over the region. Declare new
history before God and man.
These three are specific weapons of spiritual warfare that are
effective over the enemy: Praise, Pray and Proclaim! Combine
these applications in Praying On-Site with Insight and you will
hit the mark in the redemptive purposes of God.
(See my War in the Heavenlies Study Guide and
Compassionate Prophetic Intercession Study Guide for more
teaching on this subject.)

10. What was the primary insight you gained from this lesson,
and how will you apply it to your life?
Lesson Nine: No Common Ground Allowed

I. CALLED TO BATTLE
A. God Is Presented as a Man of War
1. Exodus 15:3 – The Lord is a warrior; the Lord is
His name.
2. Joshua 5:13-15 – Now it came about when Joshua
was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and
looked, and behold, a man was standing
opposite him with his sword drawn in his hand,
and Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are
you for us or for our adversaries?” And he said,
“No, rather I indeed come now as captain of the
host of the Lord.” And Joshua fell on his face to
the earth, and bowed down, and said to him,
“What has my lord to say to his servant?” And
the captain of the Lord’s host said to Joshua,
“Remove your sandals from your feet, for the
place where you are standing is holy.” And
Joshua did so. Humility is the first requirement of
warfare.
3. Isaiah 13:3-4 – I have commanded My consecrated
ones, I have even called My mighty warriors, My
proudly exulting ones, to execute My anger. A
sound of tumult on the mountains, like that of
many people! A sound of the uproar of kingdoms,
of nations gathered together! The Lord of hosts is
mustering the army for battle.
B. Our Call to Battle
Genesis 3:15 – And I will put enmity between you and
the woman, and between your seed and her seed; he
shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise
him on the heel.
1. Galatians 3:16 – Now the promises were spoken to
Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, “And
to seeds,” as referring to many, but rather to one,
“And to your seed,” that is, Christ.
2. Historic Enmity
There has always been enmity between the
children of light and those who willfully remain in
darkness.
a) Matthew 10:34-38 – Do not think that I came
to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to
bring peace, but a sword. For I came to set a
man against his father, and a daughter
against her mother, and a daughter-in-law
against her mother-in-law; and a man’s
enemies will be the members of his
household. He who loves father or mother
more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he
who loves son or daughter more than Me is
not worthy of Me. And he who does not take
his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of
Me.
b) James 4:4 – You adulteresses, do you not
know that friendship with the world is
hostility toward God? Therefore whoever
wishes to be a friend of the world makes
himself an enemy of God.
3. The head of the serpent shall be crushed.
a) Romans 16:20 – And the God of peace will
soon crush Satan under your feet.
b) Colossians 2:15 – When He had disarmed the
rulers and authorities, He made a public
display of them, having triumphed over them
through Him.
c) Hebrews 2:14 – Since then the children share
in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also
partook of the same, that through death He
might render powerless him who had the
power of death, that is, the devil.
C. Ephesians 6:12 – Primary New Testament Text
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but
against the rulers, against the powers, against the
world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual
forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
It is not whether we wrestle, but how we wrestle. The
Bible very clearly states that we are engaged in a war.
So the issue then, is how we battle. We need wisdom
— to keep us from wrong applications, presumptuous
warfare, and casualties; and to keep us from avoiding
the battle by assuming the stance that God will fight
for us. Both are ditches (extremes) that we have to
avoid.
We are called to a wrestling match, which is hand-to-
hand, face-to-face combat. This is what we are called
to. The enemy, however, uses flaming missiles or fiery
arrows (Ephesians 6:16), both of which are shot from a
distance. This indicates, then, that the way we war and
the way he wars is not the same. He tries to produce in
us an inordinate fear of him because he does not want
us to get close to him. He tries to keep us from getting
into a position where we might lay hold of him, and be
a threat to him; to knock us down before we ever get
in a position to be a threat to him, because, if we get
too close to him, we may win.

II. DEFINING STRONGHOLDS

A. II Corinthians 10:3-6
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war
according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare
are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the
destruction of fortresses. We are destroying
speculations and every lofty thing raised up against
the knowledge of God, and we are taking every
thought captive to the obedience of Christ, and we
are ready to punish all disobedience, whenever your
obedience is complete.
B. From Ed Silvoso, Leader of Harvest Evangelism16
“A stronghold is a mind-set impregnated with
hopelessness that causes the believer to accept as
unchangeable something that he/she knows is
contrary to the will of God.”
The first battlefield that we must win in is the
battlefield of the mind. There are progressive spheres,
where as you are faithful and victorious in an arena,
you can graduate and go on into other battlefields. As
a man thinks so is he (Proverbs 23:7). We must war
against the strong man of our thinking, the strong
mind, and cast that thought down and bring it into
obedience to Christ Jesus.
C. Greek Language Definition
Ochuroma – Greek for “stronghold”. It is derived from
a word meaning “to fortify, through the idea of holding
safely” and refers to a fortress or a castle. A
stronghold is in place to keep something out. We are
to build up righteous strongholds so as to keep the
kingdom of darkness out.

III. PROGRESSIVE SPHERES

A. Faithfulness Brings Increase
Remember: An increase in our sphere of authority
comes as we are faithful in the little. Let us
demonstrate faithfulness in the following progressive
sphere of influence always going back and shoring up
our foundations.
1. Individual lives.
2. Our family relationships.
3. Our relationship to the Church.
4. Our place of responsibility within our cities.
5. A heart of love and good will for our nation.
6. The Lord’s heart in ours, for the nations.
B. Quote from Dean Sherman17
YWAM Author and International Speaker
“I have heard people use the term ‘strongholds’ to
refer to humanism, Islam, communism, and other
religions and institutions. However, in II Corinthians,
the word ‘strongholds’ do not refer to massive,
complex systems, human or demonic. Here it refers to
the strongholds of the mind. These strongholds are
castles in the air built up in our minds through wrong
thinking — through unbelieving, depressed, fearful,
and negative thinking.
“Two mental strongholds are extremely common today
among Christians and non-Christians alike; thoughts
of inferiority, and thoughts of condemnation.
“Inferior thoughts constantly tell us, ‘You’re not big
enough. You’re not smart enough. You don’t look
good. You’re not really making it in life. You’re
worthless.’ These barbs keep us competing with and
envying others.
“Satan also accuses, ‘You are not pleasing God. You
are not spiritual enough. You do not read your Bible
enough. You’re not close to God.’ These thoughts
make us feel as if we can never break through into the
fresh air and sunshine of God’s approval. Some
Christians live every day of their lives in dreary
condemnation.
“These two strongholds must be cast down through
spiritual warfare, as we refuse them and instead accept
what God says about us in the Bible.”
C. A Word of Wisdom: Not Every Battle Is for You
1. Some are for you.
2. Some are for others.
3. Some are for today.
4. Some are for another day (or year).
5. Some are not to be fought at all.
He always leads into triumph – where and when He
leads is the key. (II Corinthians 2:14; Colossians 2:15)

IV. PROGRESSIVE PURIFICATION

A. Heart of Purification
Zechariah 2:7 – “Ho, Zion! Escape: you who are
living with the daughter of Babylon.”
B. Quote from Terry Crist18
Pastor and Author from Arizona
“If you are going to gather people for battle, you must
free them from their captivity… You can’t possess the
land without, until you possess the land within.”
C. Numbers 31:21-24
Then Eleazar the priest said to the men of war who
had gone to battle, “This is the statute of the law
which the Lord has commanded Moses: only the gold
and the silver, the bronze, the iron, the tin and the
lead, everything that can stand the fire, you shall
pass through the fire, and it shall be clean, but it
shall be purified with water for impurity. But
whatever cannot stand the fire you shall pass through
the water. And you shall wash your clothes on the
seventh day and be clean, and afterward you may
enter the camp.”
This is sometimes called “The Law of Battle” or “The
Law of Purification.” Everything must go through this
preparation process before it is ready for battle. We,
too, need to go through this process before we are
allowed to go into battle.
“If you and I are going to be spiritual warriors, we
must pay the price to separate ourselves through
purification.”19 We need to be purified in the fire of the
Holy Spirit and then washed with the water of the
Word (the Bible and the truth within its pages.) Luke
3:16; Ephesians 5:26; Titus 2:14; 3:5)
D. John 14:30
“I will not speak much more with you, for the ruler of
the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me…”
This is the key verse, which helps us in the
understanding of this important teaching. Let us learn
to detect what the possible “back door entrances” to
Satan are, and close them in Jesus’ name.
“The reason Jesus was so effective in spiritual
warfare…why He was able to confront the devil so
effectively…in the wilderness encounter [was
because] Jesus recognized the law of purification. The
reason Jesus could stand in such power and authority
and deal so effectively with the wicked oppressor of
the nations was because no common ground existed
between Him and His adversary. When the devil
struck at Jesus, there was nothing whatsoever in Him
to receive the ‘hit.’ When Satan examined Him, there
was nothing for him to find. Jesus and Satan had no
relationship one to another, no common ground. There
was nothing in Jesus’ life that had agreement with the
works of darkness! One reason so many ministers and
intercessors have been spiritually ‘hit’ by the fiery
darts of the enemy is because they have not
responded to the law of purification.”20

Lesson Ten: The Guardian of Intercession

I. THE PROTECTORATE
A. Finding the Balance – by C. Peter Wagner21
“As we begin to learn how to move out in spiritual
warfare on all levels as did the early Christians, it is
essential that we maintain the delicate balance
between the upward and the outward. How does this
model function? It is simple. We must never move
outward faster than we move upward. The upward is
an indispensable prerequisite for the outward, since
nothing we do is derived from our own strength, but
rather from the strength provided by God through us.
“What happens if we are out of balance? The danger
of going upward without going outward is
ineffectiveness in ministry. This is serious enough.
But the danger of going outward without going
upward is much more serious. It is truly like being a
sheep among wolves, but this time a sheep without
the protection of the Great Shepherd. The enemy can
and will eat us for breakfast.
“I like to conceptualize it in a diagram such as the
following:
“How far out should we go? Those who have read my
book Your Spiritual Gifts Can Help Your Church
Grow, may recall the helpful distinction between
spiritual gifts and Christian roles. It is a Christian role
for every believer to engage in ministries such as
evangelism, giving, hospitality, healing, teaching and
any number of others as needs and opportunities
arise.
“But this is not to deny that God has also given to a
certain number of members of the Body of Christ
spiritual gifts known, for example, as the gift of
evangelist or the gift of healing or the gift of teaching,
in which case the ministry of those individuals will be
done on a much broader, more systematic and more
effective scale than that of the average Christian.
“This applies to spiritual warfare. I know of no ‘gift of
spiritual warfare’ in the New Testament, but I do
believe that some Christians have been given a gift mix
through which God expects them to move outward
more than others. I have arbitrarily numbered the
vertical and horizontal scales of the model from 0 to 10
and drawn internal boundaries with the dotted line at
seven on the upward scale and seven on the outward
scale. It simply indicates that there is probably some
limit to the level of spiritual warfare which the ordinary
Christian without a special gift mix or ministry or
calling should reasonably undertake.
“Past that, especially when it involves dealing with
territorial spirits such as are described in this book,
only those so gifted and called would be advised to
attempt it. Few would be expected to be doing Level
eight spiritual warfare, and fewer still Level nine. The
only human being who would legitimately be a 10-10
on the scale would be Jesus Christ, and His face-to-
face encounter with Satan in the wilderness might well
be regarded as a unique experience, which will not be
duplicated.
“Since it is advisable to be further up than out at any
given time, I like to go one step further and
superimpose over the diagram a ‘danger zone’ in
which we should avoid ministering at all costs. In
other words, never allow yourself to be found
ministering in a position within the shaded zone.
“Keep in mind that these lines are arbitrary and
illustrative only. Perhaps as time goes by and we
experiment more with spiritual warfare we will be able
to draw some more objective conclusions.
“As we strive to hear from God and to know the level
and intensity on which He might be calling each of us
to engage in spiritual warfare, we can be sure that as
we move upward God will draw near to us and as we
appropriately move outward Satan will flee from us.
The scriptures promise us that. And as the power of
the enemy is pushed back and the glory of God shines
through, we will see the harvest increasingly reaped
and multitudes of unbelievers turning ‘from darkness
to light, and from the power of Satan to God’ (Acts
26:18).”
B. The Guardian of Intercession – From James W. Goll
Early one Sunday morning in January, 1992, I saw an
open vision which appeared on the wall in my hotel
room. It was a picture of the diagram printed above. In
this vision, I also saw a “tote umbrella” emerge up
through the diagram and then “pop open.” It was
called “The Protectorate” or “The Guardian of
Intercession.” It was noted that the “tote umbrella” is
especially necessary for pioneers.
We must join in with our pioneer missionary plowmen
and open up an umbrella of protection in their behalf.
This prayer shield is even more necessary, immediately
after the “engagement” as it is during.
II. WATCH OUT: BE ON THE ALERT!
A. Examples of Common Ground Issues to Avoid
1. Grumbling – Miriam and Aaron.
Numbers 12:1 – Then Miriam and Aaron spoke
against Moses because of the Cushite woman
whom he had married (for he had married a
Cushite woman)…
2. Thievery and deception – Achan and Judas.
a) Achan.
Joshua 7:1 – But the sons of Israel acted
unfaithfully in regard to the things under the
ban, for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of
Zabdi, the son of Zerah, from the tribe of
Judah, took some of the things under the ban,
therefore the anger of the Lord burned
against the sons of Israel.
b) Judas.
(1) John 6:70-71 – Jesus answered them, “Did
I Myself not choose you, the twelve, and
yet one of you is a devil?” Now He meant
Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, for he,
one of the twelve, was going to betray
Him.
(2) John 12:4-6 – But Judas Iscariot, one of
His disciples, who was intending to
betray Him, said, “Why was this perfume
not sold for three hundred denarii, and
given to poor people?” Now he said this,
not because he was concerned about the
poor, but because he was a thief, and as
he had the money box, he used to pilfer
what was put into it.
Fornication – Samson.
3. Judges 16:13-14 – Now Samson went to Gaza and
saw a harlot there, and went into her…Now
Samson lay until midnight, and at midnight he
arose and took hold of the doors of the city gate
and the two posts and pulled them up along with
the bars; then he put them on his shoulders and
carried them up to the top of the mountain which
is opposite Hebron. After this it came about that
he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose
name was Delilah.
B. Our Response to Truths Concerning Ourselves and
the Law of Purification – OR – What to Do in the
Wilderness
1. Truly thank the Lord for showing you the things
in your heart.
2. Repent, asking God to forgive any sin or wrong
motives. You may also need to ask others to
forgive you.
3. Seek God’s help to overcome and create new
habits and attitudes.
4. Resist the enemy in his attempts in your life.
5. Never deny that you are going through a
wilderness experience.
6. Never feel condemned for that which has surfaced
during your wilderness experience.
7. Simply say, “Thank you, God, for showing me
what was in my heart. Now I’ll do something
about it.”
C. Concluding Thoughts
Satan’s condemnation paralyzes because it’s general
and vague. But the conviction of the Holy Spirit is
specific and can be dealt with immediately. The
conviction of the Spirit leads to freedom if we repent
and ask forgiveness.
Let us cooperate with the finger of God in our lives,
the ministry of the Holy Spirit, so that we will gain
continuous on going victory over our internal
enemies.
As we cooperate with God’s sanctifying fires in our
personal lives and seek to hold His hand which by
grace reaches down to us, we can be supernaturally
enabled to then reach out with the authority that
Christ Jesus grants.

and how will you apply it to your life?
Section Three:

Victorious Prayer
Lesson Eleven: The Power of the Blood of the
Lamb

I. THE BLOOD SPRINKLED SEVEN TIMES

Under the Law of Atonement, after the priest had
ministered at the Altar of Incense, he would go beyond the
veil into the most holy place. Here the priest would take
some of the blood of the bull or goat and sprinkle it with
his finger on the mercy seat and on the horns of the altar,
seven times each.
A. Leviticus 16:11-15, 18-19
The blood of the bullock or of the goat were sprinkled
seven times in three places upon the mercy seat, in
front of the mercy seat, and upon the horns of the
brazen altar.
Leviticus 16:19 specifically states, “And with his
finger he shall sprinkle some of the blood on it seven
times, and cleanse it, and from the impurities of the
sons of Israel consecrate it.”
B. Why Seven Times?
When you look closely at this set of scriptures, you
find many interesting things. The blood was sprinkled
in three distinct locations seven times each. Some
Bible teachers have taught that three is the number of
the Godhead or Trinity and seven is the number of
completion. This was a picture of what was yet to
come. When the High Priest, Jesus, shed His blood He
did a complete work! It was finished. The work of
atonement had been perfectly accomplished through
the blood of this one man - the Lamb of God, Christ
Jesus the Lord!
C. Hebrews 9:6-14
The High Priest went into the Holiest of All only once
a year with the blood of the Sacrifice on the Day of
Atonement. There is no access into the presence of
God without the shedding of sacrificial blood.

II. SEVEN WAYS CHRIST’S BLOOD WAS SHED

A. Gethsemane – Luke 22:44
And being in agony He was praying very fervently;
and his sweat became like drops of blood, falling
down upon the ground.
In Gethsemane, because He was willing to identify
Himself with the sin of the world, His blood began to
flow in the drops of sweat.
B. Struck with Rods – Matthew 26:63-67 (KJV)
But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest
answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the
living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the
Christ, the Son of God. Jesus saith unto him, “Thou
hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall
ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of
power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.”
His own testimony to the High Priest convicted Him
and so He was sentenced to death. The servants then
struck Him with fists and rods (compare Micah 5:1).
C. Beard Plucked Out – Isaiah 50:5-6
The Lord God has opened my ear; And I was not
disobedient, Nor did I turn back. I gave my back to
those who strike me, And my cheeks to those who
pluck out the beard, I did not cover my face from
humiliation and spitting.
The hair of His beard was pulled out.
D. Back Was Scourged – Matthew 27:26 (KJV)
Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he
had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.
Christ gave His back to be scourged – “ploughed with
long furrows.” (See also Psalms 129:1-3 and Isaiah
E. 50:6.) Crown of Thorns – Matthew 27:29 (KJV)
And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they
put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand:
and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked
him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
Isaiah 52:13-14
Behold my servant will prosper, He will be high and
lifted up, and greatly exalted. Just as many were
astonished at you, my people, so His appearance was
marred more than any man, and His form more than
the sons of men.
These thorns (like long needles) were placed upon His
head and then pressed down into His scalp; this
caused him to lose the appearance of a human being.
F. Crucified – Matthew 27:35 (KJV)
And they crucified him, and parted his garments,
casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was
spoken by the prophet. “They parted my garments
among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.”
They crucified Him, piercing His hands and feet with
nails.
G. Side Was Pierced – John 19:34 (KJV)
But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side,
and forthwith came there out blood and water.
After death, the soldier pierced His side and blood and
water flowed out.

III. SEVEN WAYS CHRIST’S BLOOD AVAILS FOR US

There are many scriptural benefits concerning what the
blood of Jesus has done for us. According to Revelation
12:11, “And they (the believers) overcame him (the accuser
of the brethren) because of the blood of the Lamb and
because of the word of their testimony, and they did not
love their life even to death.”
We overcome by testifying what the blood of Jesus has
accomplished. His triumph over the powers of darkness is
enforced as we agree with and declare the benefits of His
precious blood. According to Hebrews 12:24 Jesus has
established a new covenant through His blood interceding
on our behalf to establish His blood covenant with us. As
Leviticus 17:11 says, “For the life of the flesh is in the
blood.” In Christ’s blood, we receive life that death cannot
conquer. (Isaiah 53:12; John 6:53-57) The Seven Benefits of
the Blood of Jesus:
A. Forgiveness
I have been forgiven through the blood of Jesus.
Hebrews 9:22 – All things are cleansed with the blood
and without the shedding of blood there can be no
forgiveness.
B. Cleansing
The blood of Jesus has cleansed me from all sin.
I John 1:7 – But if we walk in the light as He Himself
is in the light, we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus His son cleanses us from all
sin.
C. Redemption
The blood of the lamb has redeemed me.
Ephesians 1:7 – In Him we have redemption through
His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses,
according to the riches of His grace.
D. (See also Romans 7:14; 1 Peter 1:18-19.) Justification
By the blood I am justified “just as if” I have never
sinned.
Romans 5:9 – Much more then, having now been
justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the
wrath of God through Him. (See also II Corinthians
E. 5:21.) Sanctification
I have been sanctified through Jesus’ blood for a holy
calling; I have been brought out of Satan’s territory by
the blood of Jesus.
Hebrews 13:12 – Jesus also, that He might sanctify the
people through His own blood, suffered outside the
gate.
F. Peace by the Blood
Peace has been made for me through the blood of the
cross.
Colossians 1:20 – And having made peace through
the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things
unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in
earth, or things in heaven.
G. Access to the Throne
I have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the
blood of Jesus.
Hebrews 10:19 - Since therefore, brother, we have
confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of
IV. Jesus. (See also Ephesians 2:13-14.) THE BLOOD
WHICH SPEAKS
A. Inspiring Pictures
Let’s take a quick glimpse at one of the most inspiring
pictures of life on the other side that you’ll ever find.
Hebrews 12:22-24 depicts it this way.
But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of
the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to
myriads of angels, to the general assembly and
church of the first-born who are enrolled in heaven,
and to God, the Judge of all, and to the spirits of
righteous men made perfect, and to Jesus, the
mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled
blood, which speaks better than the blood of Abel.
These three insightful verses in Hebrews 12 describe
to us a view inside the veil. Here we find, first of all, a
description of God’s dwelling place. Secondly, a
picture is painted for us of those who dwell there with
God. Lastly, we are given a presentation of God
Himself. In this third phase we are shown: God as the
Judge of all; Jesus as our Mediator; and the precious
blood, which “speaks.”
B. Now What Does That Mean?
Let’s go back to the Book of Beginnings and see if we
can find a precedent. In Genesis 4 we find the account
of the rivalry between brothers Cain and Abel. Cain
became jealous, angry, and overcome by his emotions
and sin, which crouched at his door. While the two
brothers were in the field together, Cain rose up and
killed Abel. Genesis 4:9-10 tells us, “Then the Lord
said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” And he
said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” And
He said, “What have you done? The voice of your
brother’s blood is crying to Me from the ground.”
There is a principle that runs throughout the
scriptures, “Life is in the blood” (Leviticus 17:11). Not
only is there life in the blood, but innocent blood
when spilled seems to have a particular attribute.
Innocent blood cries out! A voice coming from the
blood of Abel poured out upon the ground could be
heard by the Lord. He came running to find out what
was going on! Perhaps, Abel’s blood was releasing a
screech, “Vengeance, I want vengeance!’” But before
the presence of our judge in heaven, there is a blood,
which speaks better than the blood of Abel.
What does this blood declare? The innocent blood of
Jesus is a continuous reminder before our Father of
the sacrifice of His precious Son. The blood of Jesus
ever cries out, “Mercy! Mercy! Mercy be!”

V. WE OVERCOME BY DECLARING
Revelation 12:11 - We overcome Satan when we testify
personally to what the word of God says the blood of
Christ does for us. (Psalms 107:2). How to apply this
practically: “Let the redeemed of the lord say so, whom He
has redeemed from the hand of the adversary.”
Hebrews 10:23 exhorts us to, “hold fast the confession of
our hope without wavering, for He who promised is
faithful.” Don’t let go! Continue to proclaim the benefits of
the cross of Christ. Perhaps the greatest, most powerful
plea before God, the devil and the world is the blood of
Jesus. There is no more prevailing argument we can bring
before the throne of God than the sufferings, blood, and
death of His Son. We have no merit of our own. We do not
prevail by prayer technique or even past experience. There
is no prayer “know how” that prevails. It is only through
the blood of Jesus.
Charles Spurgeon once said, “Many keys fit many locks,
but the master key is the blood and the name of Him that
died and rose again, and ever lives in haven to save unto
the uttermost. The blood of Christ is that which unlocks
the treasury of heaven.”22 Plead the blood. Plead the
Cross. Sing of the precious blood of Jesus. Recite the
scriptures and enforce the victory over the power of
darkness. Plead the blood over and over again. Agree with
Christ’s triumphant cry, “It is finished.”
Yes, we have been given divinely powerful weapons of
warfare. Consider these weapons: the cross, the word of
God, the power of the Spirit and the name of Jesus, and the
blood, which speaks, “Mercy! Mercy! Mercy be!”

VI. A DECLARATION THAT STRIKES THE MARK

PROCLAIM THIS WITH ME!
By This I Overcome the Devil - By Derek Prince23
I testify to Satan personally as to what the word says That
the blood does for me.
Through the blood of Jesus,
I am redeemed out of the hand of the devil
Through the blood of Jesus, all my sins are forgiven
The blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Son,
Continually cleanses me from all sin
Through the blood of Jesus I am sanctified,
Made holy, set apart to God
My body is a temple of the Holy Spirit,
Redeemed, cleansed, by the blood of Jesus Christ
Satan has no place in me, no power over me
Through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Amen and Amen!

9. Write out Hebrews 9:13-14 and memorize it.

10. What was the primary insight you gained from this lesson,
and how will you apply it to your life?
Lesson Twelve: Praying from a Victorious
Perspective

I. IT IS FINISHED!
There are the seven statements of Jesus on the cross.
Perhaps the most important one of all is when He declared,
“It is finished!” (John 19:30) Nothing else needed to be
done because He has done it all. It is perfectly complete!
We must learn to pray from this position and perspective.
We are not the losers. He has already won the battle and
we are called to enforce the victory of Calvary. Declaring
or proclaiming what He has already accomplished is
eventually the position you must come to in releasing
Prayers that Strike the Mark!

II. THE POWER OF PROCLAMATION

A clear word from the Lord came to me stating, “It is time
to make a worldwide impact by calling forth the watchmen
to the prophetic power of proclamation.”
A. Definition of Proclamation
The meaning is to proclaim, announce, declare,
ascribe, call out, cry, invite, preach, pronounce,
publish, read and to herald.
B. Primary Scripture Verses on Proclamation
1. From Deuteronomy 32:3-4
I will proclaim the name of the Lord. Oh, praise
the greatness of our God! He is the Rock, his
works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A
faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just
is he.
2. From Isaiah 61:1-3
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because
the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to
the poor. He has sent me to bind up the
brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the
captives and release from darkness for the
prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort
all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve
in Zion-to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of
mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a
spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of
righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the
display of his splendor.
C. Additional Scriptures on the Power of Proclamation
1. From Matthew 10:27
What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight;
what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the
roof.
The power of proclamation here is seen in
declaring His great mercy from the rooftops,
proclaiming the name of the Lord over your city.
2. From Acts 26:22-23
But I have had God’s help to this very day, and so
I stand here and testify to small and great alike. I
am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and
Moses said would happen, that the Christ would
suffer and, as the first to rise from the dead, would
proclaim light to his own people and to the
Gentiles.
As Jesus had done when he declared, ascribed,
released and pronounced light to the Jews and
Gentiles, so does Paul in his brilliant judicial
defense before King Agrippa. He declared light
where there was darkness, turning testimony into
proclamation even to those in authority.
3. From I John 1:1-3
That which was from the beginning, which we
have heard, which we have seen with our eyes,
which we have looked at and our hands have
touched – this we proclaim concerning the Word
of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and
testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal
life, which was with the Father and has appeared
to us.
We are to proclaim to others what we have seen
and heard, so that they also may have intimate
fellowship along with us. This fellowship is with
the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. This
reveals the power and importance of the
proclamation of the word of life to other people.
This includes the power of preaching.
4. From Job 22:21-28
Yield now and be at peace with Him;
thereby good will come to you.
Please receive instruction from His mouth,
and establish His words in your mouth.
If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored;
if you remove unrighteousness far from your tent,
and place your gold in the dust,
and the gold of Ophir among the stones of the
brooks,
then the Almighty will be your gold and choice
silver to you.
For, then you will delight in the Almighty,
and lift up your face to God.
You will pray to Him, and He will hear you;
and you will pay your vows.
You will decree a thing, and it will be established
for you;
and light will shine on your ways.
The council given to Job shows a pattern in God’s
purposes:
a) Confession of sin
b) Removing obstacles that are in the way
c) Establishing the word of God in your heart
(vs. 22)
d) Having a heart of submission
e) Receiving instruction
f) Repentance and returning to the Lord
g) Revelation that God is to be your all (vs. 24)
h) Removing, cleansing any other gods before
you
i) Then God will be your delight (vs. 26)
j) And then to pray to Him
k) What you decree (proclaim) shall come to
pass
5. From Jeremiah 31:10
For thus says the Lord, “Sing aloud with
gladness for Jacob, and shout aloud with the
chiefs of the nations, proclaim, give praise, say O
Lord, save thy people the remnant of Israel”.
Now this invitation to come to prayer comes after
a cleansing work of the Holy Spirit. He deposits
through revelation, God’s plan, His goals and His
purposes. We declare back to Him, reminding Him
of His word, through faith in what has been
spoken. There is coming a refined faith message,
bathed in humility, yet standing on the promises
of Jesus.
III. THE PROCLAMATION OF PRAISE
A. Praise: The Place of God’s Residence
Psalms 22:3 (KJV) – Yet Thou art Holy, O Thou who
art enthroned upon the praises of Israel.
Praise sanctifies the atmosphere around us. How?
Because God is enthroned on the praises of Israel.
God is lifted up and exalted and a throne is established
as a place of authority and blessing from which He
rules from in the midst of His people.
B. Praise: The Way into His Presence
Psalms 100:4 – Enter His gates with thanksgiving,
and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him; bless
His name. (See also Isaiah 60:18.)
Praise establishes a highway that releases the
visitation of His presence. Praise is a form of
proclamation that is built from God’s throne to you.
The purpose of praise is to release God’s blessing
upon us as we praise the Lord. As we glorify Him, He
turns it back upon us in blessing.
C. Praise: A Garment of the Spirit
Isaiah 61:3 – To grant those who mourn in Zion,
giving them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of
gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise
instead of a spirit of fainting, so they will be called
oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that
He may be glorified.
Through the exchange of the cross, God gives us
garments of praise, for the garments of heaviness. He
exchanges the dark, the gloomy, and the negative, for
that which is beautiful, glorious, and uplifting. Praise
is a mantle of type of clothing we put on. We cast off
heaviness by entering into the sacrifice of praise. You
will look different, act different and talk different when
you put of the garment of praise!
D. Praise: A Weapon of Spiritual War
Psalms 50:23 – He who offers a sacrifice of
thanksgiving honors Me; and to him who orders his
way aright I shall show the salvation of God.
Praise is a spiritual warfare weapon, a means of
deliverance from the strongholds of darkness.
Sometimes you simply need to praise your way out of
the entrapment of the enemy by releasing the High
Praises of God from your heart vocally. Store the Word
of God up in your heart so that it has something to
overflow from

IV. EFFECTIVE EXAMPLES OF PRAISE

A. From Jonah 2:1-10
It was not until Jonah offered up a sacrifice of praise,
when he was at his lowest point, that God delivered
him, causing the fish to vomit him up. This resulted in
a revival for an entire city!
B. From Acts 16:25-26
Paul and Silas were supernaturally set free from their
prison cell as they declared vibrant praise to the Lord.
We can break the bars of the evil one when in our
darkest moments and darkest places we proclaim the
majesty of His great name!
C. From Psalms 8:2
From the lips of children and infants you have
ordained praise, because of your enemies to silence
the foe and the avenger. (NIV)
We must at times toss off our dignity and like children
radically praise the Lord. This type of praise will
silence Satan and His works. Compare Psalms 8:2 with
Matthew 21:16 and you will find Jesus reinforcing this
principle. Spiritual weapons are launched through the
mouths of God’s people.
D. From Jeremiah 33:11
“The voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice
of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the
voice of those who say, ‘Give thanks to the Lord of
hosts, for the Lord is good, for His lovingkindness is
everlasting.’”
Praise is both a joyful sound as well as a sacrifice,
which will cost you something. (See Hebrews 13:15.)

V. CLOSING PRAYER PROCLAMATION

A. Cleanse Ourselves with the Blood of Jesus
Father, we cleanse our Hands with the Blood of Jesus.
We apply the Blood of Jesus to our eyes, Lord, so that
we might see into the spirit realm clearly and with
clarity.
We apply the Blood of Jesus to our ears, to cleanse
our ears from any defilement, wickedness, garbage,
gossip, or slander that has been poured into them so
that we might hear clearly what You are speaking to
us.
We apply the Blood of Jesus to our lips and to our
tongue, so that You would cleanse us of all those
things that we have spoken that really has not been of
You at all.
Father, we apply the Blood of Jesus to our hearts and
our minds. Father, we ask you to put the Blood of
Jesus on our hearts, our thoughts, and our emotions
and to cleanse our minds from dead works so that we
might serve the living God.
Father, we apply the Blood of Jesus to our feet.
Cleanse us from the corruption in this world and from
the dust of the world. Father, cleanse us of those
places where we’ve walked that really haven’t been
ordered of You.
Lord, we receive the words of the Bible that the steps
of a righteous man are ordered by the Lord. We will
have holy steps walking on the Highway of Holiness.
We praise You, Lord, and we ask that You cleanse us
from the top of our heads to the souls of our feet.
Thank You, Lord. Amen.
B. Finally Turn and Declare a Proclamation of Blessing
1. A proclamation from leaders to the people –
Numbers 6:24-26
2. A proclamation from people to the leaders –
Ephesians 6:10-18
3. A proclamation over your family – Joshua 24:15
4. A proclamation over our cities – Psalms 24:1-2;
Isaiah 25:3
5. A proclamation over Israel – Jeremiah 16:14; 30:3
C. Let His Glory Hit the Mark!
Let’s add this tool to our tool belt as we continue to
take lessons from the Holy Spirit on Prayers that Strike
the Mark. Eventually you will need to rise up in faith
and declare what Jesus has accomplished on the
cross.
You must declare there is no lack in heaven and that
we are to call forth “heaven to earth.” After all, it is the
model that Jesus gave to His disciples on how to pray.
Your kingdom, come! Your will be done! On Earth… In
earthen vessels… as it is in heaven. Amen and Amen!
