Description of therapy: recreational therapy is a process that makes use of recreation and other activity-
based interventions to address the needs of an individual with illnesses or disabling conditions, as a
means to psychological and physical health, recovery and well being
Description of planned activity: an activity wherein the physical and mental abilities of the patients will
be enhanced while also having fun. Consisting of 1 cognitive game and 2 physical games. The riddle
game was chosen to test the cognitive ability of the patients to match the riddles with the pictures
provided. The two physical games were chosen to test the cognitive and physical abilities of the patients,
testing the agility and speed of their mind and body
Objectives:
Short term:
After 1 hour of recreational therapy, the patient’s cognitive ability will be stimulated
The patient’s physical ability will be enhanced
The patient will be exposed to collaborative activities
The value of sportsmanship will be emphasized to the patient
Long term:
After 4 weeks of recreational therapy, the patient will be able to socialize and collaborate
appropriately with people around him
The patient’s rate of compliance will increase due to continuous exposure to collaboration
The patient’s cognitive abilities will be developed and improved
The patient’s physical abilities will be developed further and improved
Therapeutic value:
1. Physical health and health maintenance
Reduce cardiovascular and respiratory risk
Reduce the risk of physical complications secondary to disability
Improve the general physical and perceptual motor functioning of individual with a
disability
2. Psychosocial health
Reduce depression, anxiety, and stress
Reduce self abusive and inappropriate behaviors
Improve coping behavior
Improve self control
Increase self concept, self esteem, and adjustment to disability
Improve general psychosocial health
Improve social skills, socialization, cooperation, and interpersonal interactions
3. Cognitive functioning
Increase or maintain general cognitive functioning
Increase or maintain short and long term memory
Decrease confusion and disorientation
Increase or maintain communication and language skills
4. Societal and health care system
Help prevent complications secondary to disability
Improve patient compliance with rehabilitation regimes, patient satisfaction with
treatment and self dedication to treatment
Increase outpatient involvement and post discharge compliance with treatment plans
Procedure:
Litratong ito, hulaan mo
1. Divide the participants into 6 groups
2. Each groups will be named as red, blue, yellow
3. A set of pictures will be given to each groups
4. A riddle or a question will be asked by the therapist
5. The participants will be given 30 secs (w/ music) to guess the riddle by selecting a picture given
to them
6. While the music is playing, the participants must dance
7. Only after the 30 secs will the groups get the picture that will represent their answer
8. Once the group is sure with their answers, they will seat down to signify their readiness
9. Groups will be selected depends on who gets ready first
10. In the first round, only 5 out of 6 groups will be allowed to go up the next round. So on with
other rounds.
11. If a group doesn’t finish last but gets the wrong answer, they will still be removed
12. The last group to finish and the group who gets the wrong answer will be asked to sit down.
13. All of the participants will be given prizes.
Questions/riddles
1. Akoy masustansya, madalas kulay berde, mayaman sa bitamina pati mineral
Ans: gulay
2. Akoy matamis, kinakahiligan ng bata. Pero magingat ka, ngipin mo ang nakaalalay
Ans: candy
3. Akoy paborito ng pilipino, maputi, malambot. Bagay kahit saan, at kahit kelan.
Ans: kanin
4. Akoy matamis, paborito ng kahit sino. Makulay, masustansya, magiging malusog ka pa
Ans: prutas
5. Akoy galing sa pugon. Masarap kung mainit, malambot rin at galing sa harina
Ans: tinapay
Musical colors:
1. Groups will be retained
2. Cut outs of circles will be taped along the walls and floor of the venue
3. Music will play and all the participants must dance
4. Once the music stops, they must go to a cut out circle that is according to their color
5. Each round, 2 circles will be be removed
6. Participants who are not bale to touch a circle after the music, will be asked to seat down
Materials:
1. 3 sets of pictures
2. 10 circles (red, blue, yellow)
3. Prizes: inipit, cheesecake, mamon
