MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS
DAY 1:
(Name of School) has joined the Tobacco Free T.E.A.M. with Rexanna’s Foundation for Fighting Lung
Cancer. T.E.A.M. stands for Tobacco Education Awareness Matters – This is your chance to be involved in the fight
against smoking and lung cancer by making a donation for 60 Seconds of Hope on (date).
* DID YOU KNOW most people who smoke start before they turn 18?
Don’t start… you may never be able to stop.

DAY 2:
The Tobacco Free T.E.A.M. wants you to join by making a donation for 60 Seconds of Hope on (date).
You can make a difference in the fight against lung cancer and tobacco use.
*DID YOU KNOW there are over 4,000 chemicals in a single cigarette including rat poison,
formaldehyde, nail polish remover, and ammonia? Why would you put that in your mouth?

DAY 3:
Show your support (Name of School) ! Be a part of the Tobacco Free T.E.A.M. by making a donation for 60 Seconds of
Hope on (date).
*DID YOU KNOW cigarettes kill more Americans than alcohol, car accidents, suicide,
AIDS, homicide, and illegal drugs combined? - About 1 out of 3 young smokers will
eventually die from a tobacco-related disease. Don’t be that ONE – It’s your choice!

DAY 4:
Everyone at (Name of School) can make a difference today! Don’t forget to bring all spare change and money for a
donation for 60 Seconds of Hope on (date).
*DID YOU KNOW 1,200 people will die from a tobacco-related disease today?
That’s one every 72 seconds!

Facts about Lung Cancer


Lung cancer is by far the leading cause of cancer death in men and
161,840 women, and is one of the most difficult to treat. There will be an
estimated 161,840 deaths from lung cancer in the United States in 2008.

Lung cancer causes more deaths colon, breast, prostate, colon, liver, melanoma and kidney
cancers combined.

diagnosed annually. In the United States there will be 219,440 new
cases of lung cancer.

Tobacco smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer.
About 87% of lung cancer deaths are caused directly by smoking and some of the rest are caused

Cigarette smoke accounts for at least 30% of all cancer deaths – 87% of lung
