‘BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE’
A chance to see the plans for the proposed internal re-ordering of St. Mary’s Church and
focusing on some of the uses of our church building. The display will run from Saturday 7 th
April to Sunday 22nd.
THE GOSPEL OF MARK Sunday 15th April. 6.30 p.m. Masham Town Hall. Admission
by ticket, £2.50 per person. Under 16 free. All proceeds to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

the complete gospel of Mark. A traveller arrives to tell the story of a preacher and miracle-
worker whose dynamic presence torches the lives of all who meet him – with the most
astonishing twist-in-the tale the world has ever known! There is joy and sorrow, comedy and
pathos, as Mark’s fast-moving narrative brings the characters to life. The drama is
underscored throughout by live music. In the second act we begin the journey to Jerusalem
and the cross, and an invitation to share bread and wine before the startling discovery of the
empty tomb. Devised and performed by Reverend Ian Birkinshaw with original music by
Peter Birkinshaw.

FROM "FOLLOW ME." TO "COME AND SEE."
LIVING AND SHARING THE CHRISTIAN FAITH.
We know that Jesus calls us to share our faith and bring others to know him, but how do we
start? A short 5-session course called "From "follow me" to "come and see." looks at some of
the words of Jesus himself, considers what that means for us as followers of Jesus, and then
how these words can help us to bring others to come and see Jesus for themselves. The course
follows the form of a book club in that you will need to read a chapter of the course book
before each session.
Booking is essential as materials need to be ordered. The group will meet at 9am in Lizzy's
Tea Rooms at The Staveley Arms on Thursday mornings and sessions will last for just over an
hour. You will need to buy a tea or coffee, but breakfast is also available if you are hungry!
Dates: Thursdays at 9am on May 17th & 24th, June 7th, 21st & 28th
The course costs £10 in total (to cover the cost of materials including a book) and this can be

BIBLE READING NOTES People tell me they find these notes helpful in maintaining their
day by day relationship with God and as an aid to understanding the bible which is a core
resource for our Christian faith. You can also read the material in blocks if that’s your
preferred option. A variety of publications are available: ‘New Daylight’, the most popular,
has the bible passage printed out and a short commentary, ‘Guidelines’ provides a slightly
more academic approach, ‘Day by Day with God’ is produced with women in mind and ‘Bible
Reflections for Older People’ is designed to bring hope, assurance and sustenance and is
written by older authors for this specific age group. All the publications are £4.50 for a four
month set of notes except for ‘Bible Reflections for Older People’ which is £4.99. Trying out
one issue doesn’t commit you to keep on purchasing. I would be pleased to talk to people and
answer any questions and to take orders from new readers. The next set of notes begins in
May. Regular subscribers will have their notes delivered. Please let me know if you do not
wish to continue taking the notes.

When Peter saw it, he addressed the people, ‘You Israelites, why do you wonder at this, or
why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we had made him walk? The God
of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our ancestors has glorified his
servant Jesus, whom you handed over and rejected in the presence of Pilate, though he had de-
cided to release him. But you rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked to have a mur-
derer given to you, and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this
we are witnesses. And by faith in his name, his name itself has made this man strong, whom
you see and know; and the faith that is through Jesus has given him this perfect health in the
presence of all of you. ‘And now, friends, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your
rulers. In this way God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, that his Messiah
would suffer. Repent therefore, and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out,

While they were talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace
be with you.’ They were startled and terrified, and thought that they were seeing a ghost. He
said to them, ‘Why are you frightened, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? Look at my
hands and my feet; see that it is I myself. Touch me and see; for a ghost does not have flesh
and bones as you see that I have.’ And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and
his feet. While in their joy they were disbelieving and still wondering, he said to them, ‘Have
you anything here to eat?’ They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate in their
presence.
Then he said to them, ‘These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that
everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be ful-
filled.’ Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, ‘Thus it
is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day, and that re-
pentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from
Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.
