Emerging Escazú Project

W22 GALERíA is proud to announce a group show featuring three acclaimed artists from around the world,
breaking the boundaries of contemporary art in our modern day.

Emerging Escazú Project presents up and coming and cutting-edge artists who are exploring the boundaries of the
art world in today’s atmosphere. Through vivid colors and experimental techniques, all three artists challenge fixed
ideas about culture, nature, and the ego through providing alternate perspectives through their work.

The exhibition is curated by María Soledad Zúñiga Pacheco, an art historian trained at the Paris I University,
Sorbonne-Pantheon (1973-1976). She was an Assistant Director of the Costa Rican Art Museum (1990-1994),
and from 1996 to 2017, and was the Curator of the exhibition and acquisition program of the Art Collection of
Grupo Nación, GN. María Soledad along with Helen Broide have been associate-owners of the Galeria Alternativa
for more than 22 years.

Zigi Ben Haim (b.1945, Iraq). His work’s essence lies in balancing the tension between surviving and vanishing.
The abstract forms that he utilizes are drawn from both the natural and industrial/cultural world. Materialized, each
world adopts the other, they collide and coincide with each other to form a third “being-existence” that reflects the
idea of survival and projects the energy of life. Working primarily with mixed media, Ben Haim pays close attention
to materials, textures, and methods. A recurring motif that Ben Haim incorporates into some of his work is an image
of a Costa Rican ant, often depicted as carrying various abstract objects on it's back. The load the ant is carrying
often surpasses it’s own size by a significant amount, Ben Haim then drawing a comparison between the way we, as
human beings, carry our own “loads” throughout our everyday lives. Ben Haim’s work is included in the
Guggenheim’s permanent collection, has collaborated with NASA, exhibited in The International Armory Show,
Basel International Art Fair, The American National Gallery (Washington, D.C.), The Tel Aviv Museum of Art,
Ghent Museum, World Bank (Washington, D.C.), among many others.
Basmat Levin (b. Israel) Basmat Levin is an artist who works from her studios in Shanghai M-50 and New York
City. Basmat captures the world’s energy through colors. Her work expresses a kaleidoscope of feelings that come
from the soul. Levin synthesizes faces, patterns and vibrant colors together to inspire energy and emotion.
Her works were exhibited at ArtCN Gallery, Leo Gallery, I-Green Gardens, Tangram Gallery and Dunhill Twin
Villa, Permanent collection, Shanghai, Ischam Gallery, 798, Beijing. Leo Gallery and Kao Ming Kong Gallery,
Hong Kong. Artstage Singapore. ML Gallery, Antwerp – Belgium. Israel Opera House and Frishman 46 Street Art
Space Tel Aviv, to name a few. Her Installations include : The Lobby at 1410 Broadway, Times Square, NYC .I-
Green Shanghai, a row of 25 Flags of her paintings hanging over a bridge. Souzho, a 23 x 8 meter “ Magic Wall “
comprising 60 of her paintings. An outdoor building Graffity at Zhujiajiao, China. Her paintings have been featured
in major motion pictures, including: “Untouchables “ “Dinner Rush” and “Suburban Girl”, among others.

John Paul Fauves (b.1980, Costa Rica). This will be Fauves’ first show in his home country of Costa Rica, following
his rapid success internationally. Through his work, he explores the concepts of “A Loss of Innocence”, and the
endless pursuit of pleasure without regard for consequences. Through depicting modern icons, he creates his idea
and subsequently destroys it, representing the rise and fall of the ideas and people he portrays through his work. His
art formation starts from a young age, studying under an art tutor when his parents noticed his affinity for art. He
was taught by Rodriguez del Paso for more than 15 years. Fauves focuses on the aspect of society’s endless pursuit
for gratification and a sense of belonging outside of one’s self. His most current work “NoProfile”, refers to the
process in which an exterior facade masks the individuality one’s true inner self, almost becoming devoid of a soul;
a shell in a world of materialism. Through this, the trendy “mask” reflects the prevalent rhythm of society, instead
of each individual soul embracing the most authentic version of themselves. Fauves has exhibited most notably at
Guy Hepner, NY, along with shows at the Krause Gallery, NY, Imitate London, UK, ARCO Madrid, Spain, Art Palm
Beach, FL, Art Basel Miami, FL, LA Style Fashion Week, CA.

W22 GALERíA se enorgullece en anunciar un espectáculo grupal con tres aclamados artistas de todo el mundo,
rompiendo los límites del arte contemporáneo en nuestros días.

Emerging Escazú Project presenta artistas emergentes y de vanguardia que exploran los límites del mundo del arte
en la atmósfera actual. A través de colores vivos y técnicas experimentales, los tres artistas desafían las ideas fijas
sobre la cultura, la naturaleza y el ego al proporcionar perspectivas alternativas a través de su trabajo.

La exposición está comisariada por María Soledad Zúñiga Pacheco, historiadora del arte formada en la Universidad
Paris I, Sorbonne-Pantheon (1973-1976). Fue Subdirectora del Museo de Arte Costarricense (1990-1994),
y de 1996 a 2017, fue el Curador del programa de exhibición y adquisición de la Colección de Arte de Grupo
Nación, GN. María Soledad junto con Helen Broide han sido propietarias de la Galeria Alternativa por más de 22
años.

Zigi Ben Haim (n.1945, Iraq). La esencia de su trabajo radica en equilibrar la tensión entre sobrevivir y desaparecer.
Las formas abstractas que él utiliza provienen tanto del mundo natural como industrial / cultural. Materializado,
cada mundo adopta al otro, colisionan y coinciden entre sí para formar una tercera "existencia del ser" que refleja la
idea de supervivencia y proyecta la energía de la vida. Trabajando principalmente con medios mixtos, Ben Haim
presta mucha atención a los materiales, texturas y métodos. Un motivo recurrente que Ben Haim incorpora a algunos
de sus trabajos es la imagen de una hormiga costarricense, a menudo representada con varios objetos abstractos en
su espalda. La carga que la hormiga transporta a menudo supera su propio tamaño en una cantidad significativa, Ben
Haim luego compara la forma en que nosotros, como seres humanos, llevamos nuestras propias "cargas" a lo largo
de nuestra vida cotidiana. El trabajo de Ben Haim está incluido en la colección permanente de Guggenheim, ha
colaborado con la NASA, exhibido en The International Armory Show, Basel International Art Fair, The American
National Gallery (Washington, DC), The Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Ghent Museum, World Bank (Washington, DC),
entre muchos otros.

Basmat Levin (nacida en Israel) Basmat Levin es una artista que trabaja desde sus estudios en Shanghai M-50 y la
ciudad de Nueva York. Basmat captura la energía del mundo a través de los colores. Su trabajo expresa un
caleidoscopio de sentimientos que provienen del alma. Levin sintetiza rostros, patrones y colores vibrantes para
inspirar energía y emoción. Sus obras fueron expuestas en ArtCN Gallery, Leo Gallery, I-Green Gardens, Tangram
Gallery y Dunhill Twin Villa, colección permanente, Shanghai, Ischam Gallery, 798, Beijing. Galería Leo y Galería
Kao Ming Kong, Hong Kong. Artstage Singapur. ML Gallery, Amberes - Bélgica. Israel Opera House y Frishman 46
Street Art Space Tel Aviv, por nombrar algunos. Sus instalaciones incluyen: The Lobby en 1410 Broadway, Times
Square, NYC .I-Green Shanghai, una fila de 25 banderas de sus cuadros colgando sobre un puente. Souzho, una
"Muralla Mágica" de 23 x 8 metros que comprende 60 de sus pinturas. Un edificio al aire libre Graffity en
Zhujiajiao, China. Sus pinturas han aparecido en las varias películas, entre ellas: "Intocables", "Cena Rush" y
"Suburban Girl", entre otros.

John Paul Fauves (n.1980, Costa Rica). Este será el primer show de Fauves en su país de origen, Costa Rica,
después de su rápido éxito internacional. A través de su trabajo, explora los conceptos de "A Loss of Innocence" y la
búsqueda sin fin del placer sin tener en cuenta las consecuencias. A través de la representación de iconos modernos,
crea su idea y, posteriormente, la destruye, representando el ascenso y la caída de las ideas y las personas que retrata
a través de su trabajo. Su formación artística comienza desde una edad temprana, estudiando con un tutor de arte
cuando sus padres notaron su afinidad por el arte. Fue enseñado por Rodríguez del Paso por más de 15 años. Fauves
se centra en el aspecto de la búsqueda interminable de la sociedad por la gratificación y el sentido de pertenencia
fuera de uno mismo. Su obra más reciente, "NoProfile", se refiere al proceso en el que una fachada exterior
enmascara la individualidad del verdadero ser interno, casi desprovisto de alma; una concha en un mundo de
materialismo. A través de esto, la "máscara" de moda refleja el ritmo prevaleciente de la sociedad, en lugar de que
cada alma individual adopte la versión más auténtica de sí misma. Fauves ha exhibido más notablemente en Guy
Hepner, NY, junto con shows en la Krause Gallery, NY, Imitate London, Reino Unido, ARCO Madrid, España, Art
Palm Beach, FL, Art Basel Miami, FL, LA Style Fashion Week, CA.
