gallipoli front
I
have been fascinated and amazed at the
bravery and futility of the fighting on the
Gallipoli front where perhaps the first word
that comes to mind is ANZAC. Those brave,
hard fighting and playing men from Australia and New
Zealand, all with that typical comradeship seen
everywhere, with officers suffering in the same
conditions as their men and often all dying together
for a few yards of dust and blood-covered ground.
I wanted to do a small tribute to honour these
that two are 1:12 and the other 1:10 but they
all work well together. The figures and base
were painted using Army Painter, Vallejo,
Andrea, Life Color, Games Workshop, Jo
Sonja, AK Interactive and Reaper colours.
A small amount of filler was needed here
and there, but nothing too detracting, and
the process of bringing the trio to life was
quite cathartic. I wanted so much to do
this as a tribute to the ANZACs, and the
interaction between these busts works well
and looks like they all belong together, all
suitably ‘in theatre’ wearing various dress
styles including helmets. After joining up
together and fighting together and often
dying together in such harsh and brutal
conditions we owe them and our armed
forces everything. Respect to them all.
Thanks to both AC models and The
Fusilier for the build samples.

to paint a cross or swastika on top of the

A
t the start of the Second
World War the British
Army was equipped with an
inadequate fleet of
light and cruiser tanks. They were poorly
armoured and armed and largely intended for
reconnaissance work. The heavier Matilda I
(A11) Infantry Tank was first delivered to the
British Army in 1936. This had double the
armour of the cruisers but was only armed
with a machine-gun. It was underpowered,
managing just 8mph cross-country and initially
kept shedding its tracks. The first batch of 60
were ordered in April 1937, later increasing
to 140, all of which had been delivered by
the summer of 1940. In contrast the Matilda
