Rules and Consequences

Respect yourself and respect others in the Students who continually bother or make
classroom. other students uncomfortable will first be
asked to apologize to the other student(s). If
they continue to bother their peers, they will
be given after-school detention.

Criticism/rebuttal is constructive, not During workshops or debates, if a student is


condescending or rude. continuously making rude remarks (2 times
max), they will be removed from the
debate/workshop and receive no points for
participation. If repeated in the next session,
they will also be asked to write an apology to
the person they directed the rude remarks at.
Be an active participant in the classroom Being that students have a lot of options to be
considered an active participant in the
classroom, if students are not participating,
they will be assigned additional, appropriate
tasks to complete during discussions,
lectures, etc.
Put in continuous effort to improve Students who do not do revisions to their
paper drafts and continue to turn in low-
effort final papers will be asked to come in
during lunch or after class to work with me to
identify areas of improvement and apply
changes.
Stay on task Students who are not focused in class will be
actively called on by me to participate in
discussions or to answer examples in
lectures. Students not doing assignments in
class will be placed in a group with other
students and be pushed to be the primary
person responsible for guiding their group to
complete the assignment. If they are not
fulfilling that role, their groupmates will
report it to me.
