Now,

√ √
, are the roots of the given equation.
iii. Without drawing the graphs, show that the following equations are of concurrent
lines :
(i)
(ii)
Proof : (i)
Substituting in equation (2),

Substituting x = 1in equation (1),

the coordinates of the of intersection of the first two equations are (1,2).
Substituting in the LHS of the third equation,
LHS = 2(1) + 3(2)
= 2 + 6 = 8 =RHS.
Hence, the coordinates of the point of intersection of all the three lines are (1, 2), the same.
the lines are concurrent.
(ii)
Substituting in the equation

Substituting in the equation

Substituting
LHS = 7(2) – 4(2)
= 14 – 8 = 6 = RHS.
the coordinates of the point of intersection of all the three lines are (2,2), the same.
the lines are concurrent.

getting (i) a king of red colour. (ii) a face card. (iii) a red face card.
Solution : One card can be drawn out of 52 cards in 52 ways.
the sample space S contains 52 sample points.
n(S) = 52.
(i) Let A be the event of getting a king of red. There are 2 red kings. (Heart and
Diamond)
n(A) = 52.

(ii) Let B be the event of getting a face card. There are 12 face cards.
n(B) = 52.
