INTRODUCTION
A Sporting Singapore! Our Way of Life
Sports have become an increasingly important facet of our individual lives and an
indispensable component of our culture.
A strong sports culture needs to be cultivated so that sports can become an integral part
of life. In this aspect, the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) has been actively
encouraging sports participation among Singaporeans.
Initiated by SSC, this Swimming Information Guide (Swim Guide) is part of SSC's
continuous effort to better facilitate the practice of sports and the promotion of a
Sporting Singapore.
Essentially, this Swim Guide features useful information on how, when & where to
participate in; and organize swimming programmes. Hence, the Swim Guide provides
a one-point reference for any individual who are keen to take up swimming as a sport.

Lesson One (1 Hour) - General Introduction
Pool hygiene and safety briefing on “Dos and Don’ts” at the pool
Water emergency recognition
Conditioning in water
Holding breath to a maximum of 15 seconds
Opening eyes while holding breath underwater
Prone floating, gliding and recovery
Leg kicking
Jumping into water with feet first
SPECIAL REMARKS
* As this is an elementary course, all coaches are required to conduct all sessions with special caution and to pay
attention to all students, especially the weaker swimmers.
LTS ELEMENTARY I / II
* All participants are prepared for LTS Elementary Level II syllabus. However, if they are unable to fulfil the Level II test
requirement, but meet Level I requirement, they will be awarded with Level I certification.
C) Examination Requirement

Perform prone glide and recovery

Swim at least 5 metres in any recognised stroke

A) Programme Summary
Course Objectives
Improve water confidence
Learn the detailed techniques for at least 2 recognised strokes (Front Crawl/Backstroke/Breaststroke)
Swim a distance of 21-50 metres using at least 2 recognised strokes
Drown proofing
Water treading
Surface dive to recover object
Target Participants
Suitable for participants with basic/moderate swimming skills
Pre-requisite: LTS Elementary Level II certification, although the participant may skip
any one level if he/she is assessed to be competent by the coach

SPECIAL REMARKS
The above syllabus is intended to prepare students for the LTS Intermediate Level I and II examination. Depending on
the competency level of the students, the syllabus may be altered by changing the timing/distance/depth requirement to
meet the Intermediate Level I and II test criteria.

WHO TO LEARN FROM?
COACHES & QUALIFICATION
All swimming coaches teaching at SSC pools are registered with the National Registry of
Coaches (NROC), which requires them to meet the following conditions:
A list of the NROC registered coaches can be found at the website: www.coaching.com.sg
The swimming coaches would also hold a valid Usage Permit issued by SSC.

WHAT IS THE COST?
GROUP PAYMENT MODES
Sales Counter
Swimming course coordinators may approach the Customer Service Officer (CSO) at
the sales counter of SSC swimming complexes and pay the entry fees to the SSC Pool
collectively for their students. Payment must be made in cash.
Special Remarks
For schools inviting quotes for swimming courses via GeBIZ, the students' entry fees to swimming pools
may be requested to be included in the swimming course package.
