REVISION HISTORY

The Review Committee started to recall the original course syllabi which are subject for
revision. Department Chairs/ Heads have forwarded these documents which contained

recommended upgrades and revisions from faculty members. The Committee revised these
syllabi considering the students’ feedback and industry needs.
The Review Committee further revised course syllabi into course profiles. The committee
incorporated new elements; course aims and graduate attributes, learning resources,
course assessment plan, policies and guidelines, and curriculum initiative tracking. The

revision was made with the recommendation of the different heads/ deans from respective
department with the recommending approval from the Director for Academic Affairs and with
the approval from the President of the College.
The Review Committee amended course profiles into course specification. The committee
made certain of the alignment principle for every topic entailed in the course specification
and the competence and KUP specified in 1987 STCW with 2010 Manila Amendments. IMO
Model Courses and CMO No. 31 & 32 S.2013 are taken also into consideration. Some
02 May 19, 2014 amendments were made to its overall format. Furthermore, course specification was
comprised by the following elements: Course Framework, Course Outline, Course
Timetable, Detailed Teaching Syllabus, Assessment Plan, Grading System and Curriculum
Initiative Tracking. These revisions were done with the recommending approval from the
Director for Academic Affairs and with the approval from the President of the College.
The Review Committee made final revisions on Course Specification. These revisions
include the incorporation of document box, the infusion of course timetable and course
outline, the integration of the grading system in the assessment plans, and further refining
on the content of the detailed teaching syllabus with strict adherence and compliance to

Competence and KUP as specified in the 1987STCW as amended and with the
requirements stipulated in the CMO 31 & 32 S.2013 to include MLC hours to some
professional courses. These revisions were done with the recommending approval from the
Director for Academic Affairs and with the approval from the President of the College.

These revisions reflect the most recent mandates stipulated in CMO No. 20 Series of 2015.
Specifically, these includes new program outcomes, changes in course content and
04 July 13, 2015 description, time allocation, outcomes based assessment and new grading system. These
revisions were done with the recommending approval from the Director for Academic Affairs
and with the approval from the President of the College.

Pursuant to CMO No. 20, Series of 2015, the graduates of the BSMT program shall have acquired the
knowledge and competences necessary to perform the following:

a.) Demonstrate the ability to perform the competence, at the operational level under Section A-II/1
of the STCW Code;

knowledge and demonstrate the ability to perform the competence at the operational level under
Table A-II/1 of the STCW Code, engage in lifelong learning and keep abreast with developments in
the field of specialization and/or profession, design research and analyze data using appropriate

ASSESSMENT GUIDES AND STANDARD

There shall be a separate assessment plan for courses with laboratory components and courses without laboratory
components. It is mandated that there shall be an assessment for every Specific Learning Outcome (SLO).

For courses with laboratory components, forty percent (40%) of the examination shall be for lecture which composes any of
the following: written exam, oral assessment, research work and project. The sixty percent (60%) shall be allotted for practical
assessment. The practical assessment shall be accompanied by rubrics to objectively measure the performance of the learner.

For courses without laboratory components, one hundred percent (100%) of the examination shall be derived from any of
the following: written exam, oral assessment, research work and project. In the exercise of academic freedom, the faculty/assessor
is given the liberty to choose which assessment method is more appropriate based on Specific Learning Outcome. In the event that
the faculty/assessor uses two or more assessment methods, he/she is given the liberty to appropriate percentage based on what is
presumed to be of greater weight as required by the SLO.

As a general policy, the enabling outcomes shall not be graded but it will only serve as bases for monitoring student’s
performance in preparation for the assessment of the SLOs.

GRADING SYSTEM

The school adopts the numerical point system of grading. The passing standard shall be 50%. To get the percentile grade, the
number of correct answers called raw score shall be divided by the total number of test points and multiplied by 100.

Percentage (%) is used in determining and expressing a student’s raw scores in every examination. The table below shows the
range of percentage marks and their corresponding equivalents:

REQUIREMENT FOR GRADING

No provisional, conditional or temporary final grade for any curricular or component course shall be given to a student.

If students fail to take the final examination or submit any academic requirement due to excusable grounds such as sickness,
emergency or accident, an incompetent or “INC” mark is given. The institution allows special or completion examination, or
additional time for compliance of the requirements. No “INC” marks remain for more than one (1) academic year.
