STATEMENT OF PURPOSE for applying PhD programme at IIT- B

This application is very important to me because doing PhD in Mathematics will be the best
opportunity for me to fulfil my passion towards Mathematics. I am confident that when I
become a serious and mature researcher, my desire to make a contribution to mathematics and
to our understanding of this world will become a reality, as they remain my main driving force.
Motivation towards Fractional Calculus:
While being a Post graduate student at NIT Warangal, I chose "Fractional Derivatives"
as my seminar topic - that is where I have started my research work. For that I started studying
research papers in library and gathered information. I found many interesting applications in
various important fields like science and technology and Financial Mathematics etc. Also, in the
next semester, my seminar presentation was on Hadamard matrices and their applications. My
MSc. project topic is "Galerkin Method For Linear Fourth Order Boundary Value Problems With
Cubic B-Splines".
But somehow, I got enthusiasm in pursuing "Fractional Derivatives". Why fractional
calculus is been more interesting for me is that, earlier, before giving seminar, I knew only
integer derivatives and their anti-derivatives. While preparing for the seminar, I started
learning about non-integer derivatives and anti-derivatives. One result that shocked me was:
“Integer derivative of a constant is zero, but not the non-integer derivatives”. Similarly, I
am finding certain interesting aspects in fractional derivatives compared to our earlier
derivatives concepts. So finally, I see research on Fractional Calculus would be really
enterprising and will have interesting results.
About my GATE score:
After completing my post graduation, I have joined as a Associate lecturer, to meet my
financial needs for sustaining myself. I was also preparing for GATE entrance exam during the
free time; I qualified GATE-2018 and got GATE SCORE 344 and all India rank 1448.
About my References:
During my M.Sc. course, myself and my career got shaped by my teachers. I would like to
place two of my teachers as references for me: (1) Prof. KNS Kasi Viswanatham, who was my
Project dissertation guide and (2) Dr. R. S. Selvaraj who taught Linear Algebra - I cannot forget
their hard work and dedication on teaching and research which made me what I am today.
My educational accomplishments in post graduation are follows:
 Participated in our department organized Conference "---"APPLIED NONLINEAR
DYNAMICS (NCAND-2016) at NIT Warangal 2016
 Participated in our department organized Conference "---" INTERNATIONAL
CONFERENCE ON COMPUTATIONAL HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER (ICCHMT-2015) at
NIT Warangal 2015
 Worked as Event Manager of “Amusing Maths” at Technozion-2016, at NIT Warangal
 Worked as a Work Force and Event Manager for “Mathematics in Nature” Technozion-
2015
 We as final year MSc students visited National Geomagnetic Research Institute NGRI
Hyderabad and interact with scientists. Eventually, I received a prize/award for raising good
questions/discussion
