Project I-01: THE GALAPAGOS ISLAND
The Galapagos Islands are facing threats to their unique flora and fauna from invasive species introduced by tourists. Specifically, foreign plants brought by visitors are changing the native flora. Animal species like iguanas and tortoises are also being negatively impacted by invasive mammals like dogs and cats introduced by humans. While programs aim to control invasive species populations and illegal fishing, more needs to be done to preserve the islands' ecosystems.

X: I’m fine thanks and you? A: I’m fine too thanks, so What did you do on your vacation? X: I traveled with my family to Ecuador A: What places did you visit in Ecuador? X: I visited many places for example Quito, Guayaquil, etc; but the place i liked the most was Galapagos Islands A: wow really? How about your experience there? X: It was really fun , Galapagos island is really beautiful but there are some problems that it is destroying all its beauty. E: Hey guys What are you talking about? Sorry for interrupt. A: Oh hey Edson. We talking about alex’s experience in his vacation in the galapagos islands? E: Really? Two years ago I visited the galapagos islands too X: If you visited galapagos islands then you saw the problems there? E: Yes went i visited the islands I noticed that the plants are in dangerous. X: There is a problem with the flora in this place, it is changing because the people are bringing foreign plants A: Really? that’s terrible and Have you thought about taking care of the flora? X: Yes I have some suggestions. X: We’re not supposed to litter Green áreas and we ‘re not permitted to cultivate alien plants in there A: And you Edson what problems did you noticed in your visit there? E: I noticed problems about the animals, for example for iguanas and tortoises these animals have been severely affected by species introduced by tourists such as dogs and cats. These animals attack the brood of iguanas and tortoises. E: It is also known that giant tortoises were one of the first animals that served as food for sailors A: What do you think we can do to solve these problems? E: For these causes you aren’t permitted to bring foreign animals to the islands, because this is very dangerous for the indigenous animals. X: How about you Augusto What recommendations can you give to solve these problems. A: I think in general terms we are not permitted to walk through nesting zones because we can distrub the animals’ birth. A: And also I read that we aren’t allowed to smuggle wildlife out of the islands because it’s against the law. E: Do you know if it exist some programs to preserve the wildlife in the islands? X: I remember reading an article about certain programs which try to control the arrive and exit’s rates of foreign animals which have support of the FCD and Park National Service of the galapagos islands. A: That sounds interesting. I’d like to collaborate. How can we help these programs? X: You can call or write to the organization or make a donation but you’re not permitted to get involved beyond this. A: Thanks for the info it’s really helpful. A: And Edson do you know any other program to preserve the wildlifein the islands? E: Yes, I do. For example the FCD states that illegal fishing isn’t permitted at all because the people who do it put the sea life in danger on the islands. A: I bet it does, hey guys I know Why don’t we apply all these recommendations during our trips? It could be useful E: Yes and we can teach others about environmental care at the same time. X: We must protect the nature because it’s our home. A: Yes and When I travel to galapagos, I’ll have present all these recommendations. Thank you guys.
