ABSOLUTE VALUE EQUATIONS #4--KEY

Directions: Absolute Value Equations typically have two solutions. For example, with the equation , x could
x =9
equal 9 or -9, because both numbers are 9 units away from zero on a number line. For the absolute value equations
below, you will have to solve two different equations to find both solutions.

Examples:
x  7 = 10 2 x  4 = 10
x + 7 = 10 or x + 7 = -10 2x + 4 = 10 or 2x + 4 = -10
x=3 or x = -17 x=3 or x = -7

1) 2) 3)
2 x  12 = 14 4 x - 8 = 40 3 x  3 = 33

x = _1,-13 _ x = 12,-8 _ x = _10,-12 _

4) 5) 6)
10  5 x = 15 2 x - 20 = 42 x  3 = 71

x = _1,-2 _ x = _31,-11 _ x = _68,-74 _

7) 8) 9)
6 x  12 = 24 4 x - 2 = 30 3  2 x = 67
x = 2,-6 _ x = _8,-7 _ x = _32,-35 _
