MANAGEMENT PLAN 3

Self-Introduction

Philosophy of Education

When it comes to education, I feel like it is valued highly by parents and teachers.

Although the students may not see it right away, they eventually find out in the long run just

have lucky they are to be in school and to be learning. When I become a teacher, I want to be the

one that inspires my students. I want them to come to class motivated and ready to learn the

lessons I have planned. If you have ever seen the movie Freedom Writers and noticed how Mrs.

Gruwell was inspirational to her class by pulling them out of their downfalls in life and helping

them back up to their feet, then you know just what I mean. I want to be Mrs. Gruwell to my

students and to my overall classroom.

To begin with, the purpose of education can be said in a couple words. As many

people think, the purpose of education is to teach students what they need to know in order to

graduate and live in the “real” world. I put quotation marks on the word real because that’s what

I have been hearing all my life while I was in school. To me, the purpose is way more than just

to have them survive the world outside of the classroom. Purpose of education is to have the

students wanting more. It is to have them asking questions about the subject they are learning

and being prepared to find out the answer. It is to get through all the lessons planned throughout

the year but in a fun and memorable way. To me students remember things when they find it fun.

I know that when I was in my English class and every time we had to read the book, I hated it

because I absolutely despised following along with the voice from the speaker reading it to us.

Instead my teacher would have us all take turns reading, but she would tell us to do it however

we felt it. If we wanted to do a funny or serious voice she didn’t care. I loved that because I

remembered the book more because I would associate it with the voice that read it. So all in all,
MANAGEMENT PLAN 4

the purpose of education to me is to learn of course but to do it in a way that is more than just

doing the basic I teach you listen thing.

Roles. When we think of roles, we do not give it much of a thought. Everybody

assumes that the teacher’s role is to teach and the students role is to learn. Wrong! In education,

the roles get deeper than just the basics we know. The role of the student is to be willing to learn.

Of course they have to show up to class everyday regardless if they want to or not. But their role

is to be respectful to the teacher, to give him/her the attention they need while they are teaching a

lesson and ask questions while they do this. Students feel scared asking questions because they

don’t want to be viewed as dumb. In my classroom, I don’t care what you ask me. If you do not

understand something ask away, as long as it is related to what we are talking about feel free to

ask me. Students should also be patient and wait their turn. As a teacher, I would try my best to

get to every student and I would want them to wait till I come to them and not get mad right

away. The major role of the student that I think they all should follow, is to never be afraid to ask

her help. If a student is having a difficult time with something whether it be school related or

home related, come to the teacher and talk. I remember when I was having such a difficult time

in math and I was afraid to ask my math teacher anything that was supposed to be said in front of

the class. Instead, I would wait for her when she finished and talk to her individually. She would

explain to me the problem step by step and I understood way better one on one. I want my

students to not be scared to have me help them. I would encourage this the most as the major key

role that students should follow.

As for the teacher, the role should be somewhat similar. I feel like a teacher

should be patient with her students as well as attentive to them. Students are not fast learners

right off the bat, being mad that you have to repeat something over and over again or even go
MANAGEMENT PLAN 5

over a certain thing again should not have you wanting to tear your hair out. You are their

educator and if you can’t handle this, then this profession is not for you. Being patient comes

with paying attention. A teacher should notice when a certain student or a group of students do

not understand them. If I saw that half of the class was not getting the lesson, then I would try to

ask them what they do not understand and how they want me to explain it better. Another role is

that the teacher should not be afraid to ask for help either. Teachers learn from their students as

much as the students learn from them. If I was not understanding something we were going over,

I would ask my students for help. I am not the best technology person so I know that when I start

teaching, I will ask my students for help when it comes to the computer and all that. The major

role for the teacher is to get close with their students and form a bond. I would want to know my

students on a personal level. Know what they like, don’t like, what hobbies they are into, sports

they play, music they like, etc. I would want to now all that so that they know that I care about

them and am here for them whenever they need me. I want to be the teacher that they come to

when they have troubles in school or home. The teacher who’s classroom they feel comfortable

to chill in during my prep, their lunch or after school. Forming a relationship with your student is

the best way in my opinion to be the teacher that you desire to be.

When it comes to the community, the teacher should be involved. Now this does

not mean that they have to attend every home game or away game. Go to every dance the school

has or the tailgates and parades. The role of the teacher in the community, should be to be seen

as more than just a teacher. If students see a teacher at school events, they think of that teacher as

more than just someone they see in the classroom. They start to think that you are human too and

enjoy doing fun stuff than just grading papers and giving out homework. I want to be the kind of

teacher that goes to school games and dances, being all full of school spirit. This leads me into
MANAGEMENT PLAN 6

spirit week. Now some teachers find it like not a thing they should be doing, however this is

totally appropriate and fun for the teacher to do. I remember back in high school all my teachers

would participate in spirit week. It was funny seeing them in all their costumes and how they

acted. It made me enjoy the classroom more and I had fun. Role in the community is not just

doing stuff outside the classroom, it can also be the simple things that go inside the class.

Classroom Layout

So, for my layout, there are a couple things that I did. To begin with, I had my

desk all the way in the corner in the front because I feel like I can monitor the students when I

am up there. They can see me up there and I can see them, so I like that idea. As for the tables, I

did round tables. Since this is an English class, we will do a lot of discussions together as a class

and as a group. The people they sit with in the tables are the group members they will have

whenever we do certain group work. I also did the round tables because it is wheel chair

accessible. If I have a student or students with movement restrictions, I want to make them feel
MANAGEMENT PLAN 7

as comfortable as they can and not left out. Also, doing the round tables is easy access for me to

walk around and check up on them when I need to. I also have a kidney table included in case

any students want to sit there if they do not like the round tables. It is wheelchair accessible, so I

kept that in mind while adding it. As for the projector, it is in the front since that is where the

kids will be looking up at when we are doing stuff. I did not include a television because

everything that is done is mostly over the computer. So if we do need to watch videos, it will be

shown on the projector and not really the television. I couldn’t figure out how to add it, but

behind the projector there is a white board. In the back I have shelves and a computer in the

middle of them. The reason the computer is there, in case a student has to look up something or

finish something up real quick if they missed the day we had laptops in the classroom for

research. I kept it in the back because I can see and everybody else around them can see what the

person is on, so they won’t be on inappropriate sites that are not allowed. As for the shelves, they

will be used to put books such as workbooks, vocabulary books and etc. I will also keep them

there for things I would like to put that the students give me that I like. By the teacher’s desk, is a

student desk. The reason for that is so that any student who misbehaviors or is disrupting the

class, can sit up there away from everybody else. It is also there so a student who misses a test or

quiz can do it right there by me so I can keep an eye on them. There are bean bags on two

corners of the room so that students can go there and relax during reading time or whenever we

are free and doing nothing. The storage is going to be filled with stuff that we will need like

supplies and my personal teacher stuff. The storage will also have one side for the students to put

their stuff in there such as their backpack’s so they do not have it bothering them if it is. Other

than that, this is my classroom layout and reasons why.

MANAGEMENT PLAN 8

Classroom Procedures

General Procedures

A. Beginning of the class: Right when the students walk into the classroom. They will

go to their assigned seats. They should have everything they need for the class prior to them even

walking in through the door. The first two things they will do right after are:

1. They will wait for me call their names and take attendance.

2. They will check the board to see what the schedule is for todays class. They will then

wait for further instructions and for me to start the class.

Absent Students: Those students who have missed class the day before will come up to me and

ask me what they have due. If they don’t make the first contact, I will approach them before the

class is over and tell them what they have missed and have to make up.

Late/Tardy Students: I have a no more than three times tardy rule. If a student comes into the

classroom late more than the allowed amount. They will be given a referral. If a student has a

class before that is pretty far and they have a valid reason as for why they are late, then they will

be excused from this rule I want the students to talk to me and tell me why they are late rather

than just walking in and acting as if they don’t care for my class.

Student Behavior: While in the classroom, specifically my class, I want respectful from all of

them. They will speak kindly to me and to others in the classroom. Their will be no bullying or

judging of others, everybody is to be treated like a family in my classroom.

B. Materials and Equipment: Students are expected to come t class always prepared.

They will have a notebook journal with them at all times and whenever they come into the

classroom, it should be there ready for them to write. They will have pencils and highlighters as
MANAGEMENT PLAN 9

well for any activities we are doing. As for the reading, any book that we are reading for a

section, they are t bring it to class every day.

My Desk: If a student has no pencil or highlighter, they can come and take one from my desk.

They are to bring it back right after unless they need it for another class. If they take a stapler,

scissors, or anything else from my desk that I will need for everyday use, they MUST bring it

back immediately right after use.

C. End of the period: The students will have more than plenty of time to pack up their

things and get ready for the next class. They will have a ticket out the door every class period

and it will be any question related to the topic that I want them to answer. It is a must do to leave

the classroom. They will hand it over to me as they are walking out the door.

Seat-Work and Instruction Procedures

A. Student Participation: Everybody must participate in the lesson and the activities

that come with them. If a student has an issue with a lesson or activity, then they can come talk

to me individually to see what the problem is and what else I can do for them.

B. Individual Seat Work: Students will do any individual seat work that I assign them at

their desk. After that, then they can go and socialize with other students about the work when I

tell them they can discuss with others.

1. Student Discussion: Students can talk to other students once they are done with their

individual work. But they must only talk about the assignment that was just done and what they

put down for the questions.

2. Asking for Help: If a student needs help and they need it specifically from me, then

they may come up and ask me. I will always help them no matter what.
MANAGEMENT PLAN 10

3. Out of Seat: A student may leave their seat if they have to come talk to me, get

something such as a pencil, pen, etc. If they have to go to the bathroom, then they may leave

their seat and sign out to go.

4. When seat work has been completed: When a student has finished their work, then

they can talk to another student who is done with the assignment as well, they can be on their

phones listening to music or working on other homework they may have.

Student Group Work

A. Assigned Groups: I will mainly let the students pick their groups that they want. I

want them to be comfortable with the people in their groups. Unless a group of certain students

are always in a group and never really do work but mess around, then I will assign groups

myself. But I will let the students prove to me they can pick their own groups and do work.

B. Student Participation/Behavior: Everybody in the group is required to participate. I

will know if somebody did not because I will have the students fill out a sheet that rates

everybody and tells me who did nothing or all the work. As for behavior, respect is obviously the

main one as well as being appropriate and open minded towards everybody in the group.

Miscellaneous

A. Signals: I will have a countdown for the students. If it is getting out of hand and loud,

I will put one finger up and then say one, then put two and then say two and so on till five. If I

have to get to five then that means they all have to work on their tones and will not be allowed

group work or socializing for a little in the classroom.

B. Fire Drills: During a fire drill, students will walk in a straight line in front of me to

the required spot outside for this class. They are to be on their best behavior and not be acting
MANAGEMENT PLAN 11

like fools. If they do not act like they are supposed to, then they will have a talk when we get

back in the classroom.

Discipline Strategies/Rules and Consequences

Rules Consequences
If a student is not being respectful toward
Respecting one another another student in the class, they will be asked
to tone it down. If they cannot contain
themselves and are still being rude, they will
be escorted out the classroom. I will bring
them back in when I feel like they are calmed
down and ready to learn.

I do not take any type of bullying in the

Bully free zone classroom. Making fun of a student, harassing
them or just doing anything to mess with
them is NOT acceptable. If a student is
bullying another student, I will take it into my
own hands and tell them to go to the
principal’s office. From there, they can
discuss with the principal as to why I might
have done that and why they were bullying.

Plagiarism is a big NO. I will not deal with

No cheating or copying any type of cheating or copying. Doing this
just shows how a student is lazy and does not
care about the work they are doing. If a
student is caught plagiarizing in anyway, they
will receive a zero for that assignment. With
that said, all of their previous work will be
checked and he/she with their parents will
have a meting with me.

I want all students to feel like they can be

Be creative! Express yourself! themselves n the class. When we do
assignments, they are expected to be creative
as can be. This is especially towards projects
that they do. There is no consequence if they
choose not to express themselves, they will
just be questioned on how they could have
down better.
