EDUCATION

North Carolina State University / M.A.T. Middle Grades
August 2016 - May 2018, Raleigh NC
I am finishing out my degree with student teaching this semester.
Over the course of my time at NC State, I have learned the
importance of multicultural, equitable classrooms. In addition, I have
developed my teaching philosophy, classroom style, and knowledge
of theory. Maintaining a 3.9 GPA, I strive to make the most out of all
my classes.

University of North Carolina at Asheville/ B.A. Art History

August 2011 - May 2014, Asheville NC
Following my passion for art and history, I received my B.A. in three
years (summer classes, hard work, and AP credits). My background in
art history has proved incredibly valuable as I strive to integrate
visual art into the core classroom. Not only is art analysis a powerful
tool for teaching critical thinking, but art also serves as a window
through time that helps make history less abstract in the social
studies classroom. In the ELA classroom, art is essential for
contextualizing literature.

East Chapel Hill High School

August 2006 - June 2010,, Chapel Hill NC

As a Chapel Hill native, I rounded out my public education at East

Chapel Hill High. At East I was a cross country runner, member of
both National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society, and I even
tried out for a musical. East was a formative place for me where I
ignited my love for history and language. I took seven AP classes, and
I scored a five on the AP Art History, AP Literature, AP Spanish
Literature and AP Spanish Language exams.

EXPERIENCE

East Millbrook Magnet Middle/ Observer and Student

Teacher
August 2017 - Present, Raleigh NC
At East Millbrook, I work with my cooperating teacher to create
content, deliver content, grade, assess, and manage our 6th grade
classroom. East Millbrook is a diverse school that has pushed me to
create multicultural content. I emphasize diversity, pluralism, and

equity in order to make my classroom a safe space for all students.
Over 70% of my students are free or reduced price lunch, and as a
result they have different classroom needs than more privileged
students, which I strive to address. My Spanish skills have been really
helpful communicating with and welcoming ELL students and their
parents. I am grateful for the chance to work with such vibrant, eager,
and intelligent students and serve them to the best of my ability as I
complete my student teaching.

Pittsboro Center for the Arts/ Art Teacher
June 2017 - August 2017, Pittsboro NC
I worked for the Pittsboro Arts Center over the summer as a camp art
instructor. I worked with the middle grades students. I designed and
demonstrated all the lessons, ranging from graphic design to drawing
from life. Working solo, I really honed my classroom management. I
also developed an arsenal of creative ways to integrate visual art into
the core classroom.

Carolina Friends School/ Substitute Teacher
November 2016 - June 2017, Durham NC
At Carolina Friends School, I was able to put all the theory I learned in
my Master’s program to use. I practiced my classroom management,
my lecturing skills, and even mediated student disputes. I practiced
my classroom personality and learned to be flexible as I subbed in
every class from Spanish to Cooking.
