Lesson Plan

I. Subject/Topic of Lesson and Grade Level:


Science-Weather, Kindergarten

II. Curriculum Standard:


Grade-Kindergarten- Weather- In this unit of study, students develop an
understanding of patterns and variations in local weather and the use of weather
forecasting to prepare for and respond to severe weather.

III. Learning Objectives and Assessments:

V. Pre-lesson Assignments, knowledge and/or skills:


The teacher will use the computer and projector to show the students a Check out the
Weather! song/video. This will help the students learn the difference types of weather
and seasons. After indicating the song/video to the students, the teacher will ask the
students what the weather like today outside? The students will answer based on what
they know or learned from the song/video.

VI. Lesson Beginning/ Hook:


The teacher will start the lesson by replaying the Check out the Weather! song and
talking about the different types of activities they will be working on to learn their
weather and seasons.

VII. Instructional Plan:


1. There will be two centers set up in the classroom, the class will be divided into
the two centers and students will be put in groups of four.
2. In center one, there will be a draw the weather worksheets and colored pencils.
3. In center two, there will be cookie sheets and a seasonal dress-up activity, which
includes cutout magnetic clothing according to the seasons.
4. For center one, students will color and draw the weather according to the seasons
on the worksheet.
5. For center two, each student will be handed a cookie sheet which will be used as
their independent work station for their seasonal dress up activity. They will use
the cutout magnet clothing to dress up their doll according to the weather and
season. Students will identify what type of clothing is appropriate to dress up their
doll.
6. The teacher will also observe that the students are working on their activities,
when the teacher sees that students are done with their center activity, the teacher
will then make students rotate centers.
7. Once every student has completed their center activity, students will then clean up
the center which they are in.
8. Lastly, students will have a class discussion about their experience at the different
centers.

VIII. Conclusion:
Students will share their experience about the different centers they worked on. After
their discussion, the teacher will read a book called, What Will the Weather
Be? (Lynda DeWitt, 2015). After the book the teacher will ask students according to
the book, to describe todays weather. Students will look out the window and could
use the examples from the book to describe todays weather.
