2. What are the main conclusions of the scientist(s)?

A. Millennial women are likely to experience the largest shortfall in achieved fertility
versus their stated family desires of any generation in a long time.

3. What are some possible impacts this information could have on society or on individuals?

A. If this information is brought to the attention of more people, it is more likely that
things can change. The government might get more involved if the people really push
for it. This could lower prices of fertility treatments or start more fertility programs.

4. Are other scientists, or policy-makers, mentioned as being in disagreement with the

research scientists? If so,what might make you tend to take their doubts seriously (or not take
them seriously)?

A. There was no mention of other scientists or policy-makers.

5. Are scientists mentioned in the article affiliated with a nonpartisan group, like a University
or Government, or affiliated with a for-profit corporation? If the latter, do you suspect that
altered their conclusions?

A. There was no mention of affiliated nonpartisan groups.

6. In what ways did the article change and expand your views of the topic? If it did not
change or expand your views, describe what you knew about the subject before reading the
article.

A. I knew that the population was decreasing, but I didn’t know how bad it actually was.
I was also surprised with the fertility rate that most women hope for was around three,
but the actual rate was about two.

7. Do you think the reporter did a good job or a bad job of giving background for the story?
Please give an example to support your opinion.

A. I think the reporter did a good job giving background for the story. He used a lot of
current data and graphs to make the information easier to understand. Also, the article
is fairly simple and clean.
