(because I was collided last time).
Then he checked my last oral checklist and told me that he will not ask any question which I have
completed in last oral. Then he started with -

4- What is ISM and what is your concern as a C/O.
5- Your ship is proceeding in a heavy weather area how you will prepare for it. (I refer to MSC 1228)
7- Then he asked me what types of weather phenomena and what is parametric rolling.
8- After heavy weather you reached at any port what thing you will checked as a c/o.
9- Master informs you that vessel has been grounded how you will help master. Then he asked now
there is flooding then what you will do?
10- How you will prepare dry dock list and where you can find other information.
11- What things you will consider before entering dry dock and before refloating?
12- Master told you that our load line certificate is going to expire what thing you will do to prepare
load line survey?
13- What is C/O main concern in dry docking? I told him about WPSHA then he asked me how?

15- At night second officer reported that no 2 cargo hold deck plating paint peeling off, what will be

All questions asked were from the bible(Expect that he went in deep by cross questioning and only
query asked outside the bible was steering gear drill requirements as per SOLAS and how it was
conducted on my last ship) All answers I gave was what was in the bible. He said that he's aware
that people just mug up the answers from his set of questions which is available. Finally he ended
the oral by saying that he was satisfied with all the answers I gave him except for bulk loading and
C/O's duties as per ISM.

stbd side (asked me what is the length) ; replaced red light of FV with green (justification why less

1.What is the full form of SOLAS?
I told him Safety Of Life At Sea. He said NO! Then I said International Convention for the Safety Of Life At
Sea. He said,YES! That's how a Mate should answer!
2.What is full form of MARPOL and what's the heading on your loadline certificate?
He then went through my file and said he's taken my orals before, to which I nodded in affirmative and
said yes. So, he said he'd want to ask me stuff which I couldn't answer in my first attempt and asked:
3.What is the full form of GNSS and what other systems associated with it and how many?(I said 5 and
he was happy)
4.How does a GPS work?(Just told him the basic of distance calculation and how position circles are
obtained and how the ambiguity of two positions are eliminated(2D/3D positions) )
5.How do you load bulk cargo? (Capt.Sanga failed me by saying he wasn't satisfied with my answer)
6. He then gave me two positions for calculating GC distance,Initial course and position of vertex and
told me I have 15 minutes to calculate and left the room.
When he came back after 15 minutes,I showed him the answer. He told me to check the longitude of
vertex again.In the hurry,I had not subtracted from 360 which I did and showed him the answer and he
was happy.
Then he asked me whether I think am a risk at sea?? I just stared at him blankly and then he repeated
the question again in a different way. He asked whether I think it'd be a risk if he clear me! I obviously
said NO! Then he said, "if you don't think so, then you are passed"!!

Questions are more or less expected. Most likely you will have studied or screened through it while
revising on yur own. Problem is whether you are able to answer to his choice of words. (good luck
with that) most of the time when he is not satisfied with my answers and when he corrects me, i will
be thinking:"huh? Isnt that what i have just said?" Anyway, arguing doesnt work so dont bother. Just
go with the flow. Spends lots of time on definition questioning.
Frankly speaking it was enjoyable spending the morning with him, he will clarify the doubts that u
have and if u ask, will tell you what to focus on and where to move on for your next attempt.
*mentioned that he will be clearing leave in december. Expect delays

Passed my COC 2 oral exam with Capt.Harun from

1400-1600 hrs 23 Jul 2015.
Questions based on Capt.Loo left from last attempt.
1: SCBA checks.
2: buoyage, almost cover all.
3: ROR. Especially 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,10, 13, 18, 19.
And ask me lots of lights to describe what Vessel is that, day signal, fog signal, action to take.
3 questions but last 2 hrs, most of the time is discussion and his teaching. Thanks to all my friends
