A Peek At The Sunday Sermon

An All Out Run For Jesus
Hebrews 9:11-15

The weather is changing! Sunshine and warmer temperatures are encouraging new
growth in lawns and regenerating runners and joggers! This past week, I’ve seen a
marked increase in the number of men and women who pound the pavement in their
Nikes.
I’m jealous. My jogging days ended years ago, thanks to a knee injury and arthritis.
At best, I take leisurely strolls down the street or I walk on our treadmill. Neither,
however, are as satisfying as a good, hard run. (You runners know what I’m talking
about!)
I may have retired from this type of physical activity – but in God’s work, there is no
stopping! I’m running the race with Jesus and getting my spiritual, cardiovascular
exercise.
I’ll be sharing more about this challenging run and what you’ll need to finish the race.
Hope to see you ….

The liturgical color for Easter and for the next six Sunday’s
until Pentecost Sunday, is celebratory white. White
symbolizing purity, holiness, and virtue, as well as respect
and reverence. Our God is a Holy and Awesome God!

Our suggested Scripture reading for April 29, 2018, from the 2018 UCC
Church Calendar:
John 15:1-8 (NLT)
Jesus, the True Vine
“I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts
off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes
the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even
more. 3 You have already been pruned and purified by the message
I have given you. 4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a
branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you
cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.
5
“Yes, I am the vine; you are the
branches. Those who remain in me,
and I in them, will produce much fruit.
For apart from me you can do
nothing. 6 Anyone who does not
remain in me is thrown away like a
useless branch and withers. Such
branches are gathered into a pile to
be burned.
7
But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may
ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! 8 When you
produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great
glory to my Father.

Good News For Bargain Hunters!

Our sister church, St. Paul UCC, in Taylor, is holding their annual
Spring Rummage Sale on May 3 – 5, 2018. Let’s give them our support!
Here is information we received.

The St. Paul Spring Rummage Sale is coming fast. The sale begins
Thursday, May 3rd and continues through Saturday, May 5th. Set-up begins
Wednesday, April 25th, and continues through Wednesday, May 2nd. Post-
sale clean-up takes places on Saturday, May 5th, 10-12 noon and again on
Tuesday, May 8th 9 - 10 am.
All items not sold are bagged or boxed for pick-up by one of the local non-
profit resale shops in our Downriver area.

Volunteer help is needed to host this all-congregation event which supports

the larger mission and ministry of our church. You can volunteer by calling
the church office (313) 291-1221 or by contacting Toni Hill or Dan Case.

Your donations of clothing and household goods are welcomed and very
much needed to ensure the sale's success. All items donated should be
clean and in a good state of repair. Items can be dropped off through the
east entrance during church office hours 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. or at other times
by arrangement. Just ring the bell and someone will let you in to put your
items on the tables in the back of fellowship hall.

I’m looking forward to spending time with you on Sunday!

Blessings,

Pastor Bill
