POMODORO STUDY METHOD
TOPIC: Pomodoro Study Method
NOTES:  Time Management Method (1980s –
Cirillo)
 Named after Pomodoro Tomato Timer
 Helps power through distractions
 Helps “hyper-focus”
 Helps train the brain for interval work

Break large tasks in to a series of smaller tasks

(“bursts”) – Basically making smaller deadlines
for yourself

1. Choose task
2. Set timer for 25 minutes
3. Work until timer rings and STOP
4. Take a short break (about 5 minutes)
5. Repeat
6. Every 4 “pomodoros” (25 minute
intervals) take 15-25 minute break

Short breaks:
 Listen to a favorite song
 Refill water bottle
 Grab cup of coffee
 Walk around immediate space
 Stretch
Long Breaks:
 Make a sandwich
 Watch a short TV show episode
 Call a friend to chat
 Do a puzzle

Breaks should be simple and not extremely

mentally challenging – creates balance between
work and rest period
DISCUSSION: Balance is vital to success – allows the brain to be
trained, maintained, and stimulated without over
working.

Lack of balance results in “burn-out” – drop in

grades/work ethic/accomplishments
In Exercise:
 Balance prevents falls and fractures
In Art:
 Balance creates stability and beauty
In Engineering:
 Balance creates safety for consumers and
employees
In Life:
 Helps to find happiness in what we do,
not just “success” (both are important)
