Display a thermometer and have students tell me what they think it is. Watch BrainPOP Jr. video
called Seasons

1min *State the Objectives (grade-level terms)

We are going to be learning how the seasons affect plants, animals, weather and people. Who
can tell me how many seasons we have? Who can name the four seasons?

10mins *Instructional Input or Procedure

The teacher will explain that a thermometer is a tool used to measure temperature, Temperature
is how hot cold or warm something is. We use thermometers to measure different things, like how
hot or cold your food is, or how hot or cold it is outside. The red stuff you see on the inside of the
thermometer is what we look at to see the temperature. If the red line is really long, then it is
really hot, if it is really short then it is probably cold.
7mins *Modeling
Teacher will model how to a thermometer works and how to read a thermometer using a
thermometer manipulative. The teacher will explain the numbers on a thermometer.

10mins *Check for Understanding

Teacher will check for understanding by allowing students to explore thermometer in groups and
asking group to set their thermometer to a certain temperature. She will also check for
understanding by asking student question about what plants, animal, people, and the weather is
doing in each season.
