Portfolio Cover Letter of Writing Sample Collection

To the honorable reader,

Thank you for taking the time to read through the progressions of my collection. Being a 20-

year-old college student, this is a very influential time in my life not only as a student however

also as a writer. I appreciate every evaluation and eyes viewing my development! These are a

few sample pieces that I strongly believe represent the growth, creativity, and development of

my writing.

The collection of my words symbolizes a magnifying glass into the diversified actions of my life.

I didn’t draw the names of writings out of a hat and decide to toss them onto a portfolio together;

the similarities and differences are strategically placed in cohesiveness of each other. The hybrid

of artsy measures, structured originality, and mild research work as one to show success in

providing the same passion in each division. Collecting each of these writing samples and

compiling them as one was a bit of a challenge because I don’t feel content with every piece but

I do feel that this is a curated account of my overall form of artistry. These writings are not set in

the order that they happened but instead in the prioritization of where my passion lies.

This order is exemplified with the first writing sample, Exploratory Journal Rights: Harbor of

Creativity. The reasoning for this title is this piece represents an archive of my creative diary

entries while experiencing the beauty of different parts of the world. Each bullet point creates a

different atmosphere however all entries represent the same amount of depth. These Journal

Rights are meant to make you as a reader individualize who you are while reading the content I
have displayed. The second writing sample, is an example of a structured mechanical taste and

boundaries given with originality applied. The “I believe in the Ripple” piece identifies with a

main point and a relatable analogy. I chose the analogy and personally reflected on it to portray a

sense of vulnerability and genuine impact. This sample is used because I believe it represents a

different side of a more contained sense of my writing. The third sample, is an academic paper

written in a comp I class my freshman year in college. Although there is an overflow of facts,

points, and archive based facts, this piece was developed utilizing scholar sources. Scholar

sources show a different side of my collection by adding in a sense of historical knowledge. This

knowledge was put to use through infiltration of pathos, ethos, and logos. For my final sample,

the Scientific write-up lab represents the surface level direction that my solely research data is

headed. The piece is structured to be interesting to the naked eye with an introductory paragraph

of “why” the numbers are so interesting.

The first two samples represent who I am as a writer today in comparison to the third and fourth

samples that were developed over a year ago. All samples are relevant to who I am as a writer

and the evolution of myself as a student. Growing up, I was always outside. I was never the child

indoors, reading books, growing my brain, and academically rooted. For the longest time, I was

under the impression that this mentality limited me. However, it actually prospered my literacy.

How? This allowed the childlike behavior of my writing to overflow as an adult through

creativity. The twists and turns that my writing takes I don’t always expect during my process

but I do always accept the uniqueness.

My personal process of writing used to be casually thrown together and that would result in the

piece being very all over the place. However, as I have put the work in through my current comp

II class and learned from discussion of other’s writing processes, my writing has organized. I
now start with an outline of main points and structure and infiltrate it with creativity instead of

the other way around. My strengths are now organization and transition when those two writing

idealisms used to be my weaknesses.

Because of the new-found strengths in the evolution of my writing, I am excited to dabble in

different types of writing with a directedness of focus! I foresee improvement and more entries

in my exploratory writes turning into a travel journal blog as well as a bridged gap of scientific

journals to global relevance! I am far more prepared because of the time I’ve put in to develop

the writing that can be used to influence others.

To finalize, as you now go on to read through my collection, thank you for not only keeping my

own personal experience in mind but for also using your individuality to evoke different aspects

of each and every word. From creativity, to rooted originality, and even through scientific data,

thank you for helping me diversify each piece!

Kindest Regards,
