Purpose Statement

My portfolio is a representation of my journey to becoming a teacher through my experiences in

the Diploma in Education Program. It reflects the evolution of my pedagogical practices and

teaching philosophy as I grew and developed both personally and professionally and accounted

for the transition I have made from my initial perennialist approach to education to a more

progressivist one. This portfolio provides evidence of my accomplishments and gives insight into

the circumstances that influenced my decision to become a teacher through a series of reflections

along my journey. It also outlines and explains the factors responsible for my decision to pursue

this Program and my expectations for learning and growth through teaching practice sessions and

mentoring. It provides an analysis of my efficacy as a teacher through an intimate review of my

experiences as a reflective practitioner throughout my role as a facilitator of both teaching and

learning in the classroom. My portfolio essentially provides a framework of actual work done

over the year as well as a platform for understanding my approach to teaching and the strategies I

use to meet the needs of my students. The various sections in the portfolio allows for measuring

my teaching practices and strategies against best practices in education while highlighting my

growth and development during this Program
