POWER CORD:
Cordless varieties or models with extra long cords will allow you to
move freely from room to room without having to unplug and switch
power sources. Quick cord releases make getting started and
storing your vacuum away when finished easier.
CLEANING PATH:
Vacuums with wider cleaning paths will save time and increase
productivity while cleaning.
VACUUM PERFORMANCE:
Two important ways to measure vacuum performance are airflow
(CFM) and lift (inches).
FILTERS:
For optimal vacuum operation, check your filters frequently. For
allergen-sensitive areas like hospitals, schools or doctor's offices,
HEPA filtration systems are highly recommended.
BAG REPLACEMENT:
As the bag fills, less air flows out and the cleaning performance of
your vacuum reduces. It is very important to replace or empty bags

Lies Beneath Your Feet
Like most people, you probably spend approximately 90% of your time indoors. Since interior
environments are where we spend most of our time, the quality of the air available inside our work
and living spaces is going to be a factor in our health.
In the past we didn’t think much about interior air quality. We were more focused on visible
cleanliness, shine and fresh smell. Now we realize that many of the materials and products we used
contained solvents and other chemicals that might have persisted in the air, lowering its quality.
The materials used in flooring and carpeting as well as the products and equipment used to clean
them, are important air-quality choices you make every day in the work you do. Here are some
things you may want to keep in mind when making these choices.

• The CRI (Carpet and Rug Institute) Seal of Approval program identifies effective
carpet cleaning solutions and equipment that clean carpet right the first time
and protect a facility’s carpet investment. Not all products clean well enough
to earn the Seal of Approval distinction, so look for the blue and green
CRI Seal of Approval as proof that you are purchasing or using
a quality product.
• Keep in mind that carpeting and other flooring may continue to
release volatile gases and toxins into the interior air for weeks
or months after installation. Look for the CRI Green Label™
logo on carpeting, padding and the adhesives used to
install carpeting. This indicates that the products have
been tested using scientific standards developed with
the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to help
reduce their impact on air quality.
• The use of recycled materials in flooring
products will reduce the quantity of material
that end up in landfills.
• When cleaning carpeting and flooring,
look for “green”cleaning products to
reduce the amount of harmful substances
put into the air. You will find that many
“green” cleaners work as effectively
as other cleaning products and they
are a healthier alternative.
