Reflection
(Minimum of 3-4 sentences per question)
1. Briefly describe the field experience. What did you learn about technology coaching and technology leadership from completing this field
experience?
During this field experience, I helped to design and build the platform (Microsoft Notebooks) for which teachers would build activities for a required Digital
Learning Day. Students would access the lessons and activities on March 9 th at home for a virtual day at school. Working with the administration and the
grade level chairs, I helped met the needs of the faculty and staff by organizing and designing Notebooks for each group. I also worked with several teachers
and small groups of teachers to build online lessons and create engaging digital learning day content.

2. How did this learning relate to the knowledge (what must you know), skills (what must you be able to do) and dispositions (attitudes, beliefs,
enthusiasm) required of a technology facilitator or technology leader? (Refer to the standards you selected above. Use the language of the PSC
standards in your answer and reflect on all 3—knowledge, skills, and dispositions.)

Knowledge – It was important to remember that when working with a large group of people, there are going to be an enormous amount of variety in the
skills and previous knowledge that participants will have. Coaches need to be aware of how their digital learning environments are designed and how it looks
to someone that is not familiar with the technology.

Skills – Because this field experience required a lot of moving and working parts, it was important that I maintain effective and continuous methods of
communication with the other teachers. Being able to work with others and communicate effectively made this field experience something that was
manageable.

Dispositions – In order to maximize the learning of all students, a coach has to be flexible and patient in developing their ideas. With so many different
grade levels, courses, and teachers, this Digital Learning Day experience had a lot of moving parts. Each grade level developed criteria for assignments, and
then each PLC had a different set of criteria. This meant that I was going to have to work with each teacher on an almost individual level to build the
assignments in the Notebook. Also, a few teachers have never used Notebook while others have been using it for over a year. I had to be aware of the various
experience levels for each teacher and coach these teachers where they needed to be coached.

3. Describe how this field experience impacted school improvement, faculty development or student learning at your school. How can the impact be
assessed?

Elkins Pointe Middle School is a Microsoft 365 school. Each teacher and student is provided with an Office 365 account, including Outlook, Notebook and
Teams. These tools can be great tools for organizing and collaborating in the classroom, but it requires some understanding of how the system works.

This experience has opened the eyes of many teachers that were not aware of the powerful tool they had in Microsoft 365. Since March 9 th, I have met with
almost every PLC in the building to help them get started (or get better) with using Office 365 in the classroom. Several teachers have agreed to experiment
with using Microsoft Teams, a tool that can become a virtual classroom for teachers and students to keep the learning going even outside of the classroom.
