2.0 INTRODUCTION
1. Original roller makes the user need to bow when they need to refill the paint and that
can cause back pain.
2. Long time painting time can increase stress.
3. Original roller always causes drips and mess during painting work.

3.0 NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
3.1 DEFINITION
The SMART Roller is innovative paint roller that does not involves dipping the roller sponge
into the paint than a traditional roller and with less mess. A simple squeeze of the ratchet
power trigger directly feeds paint to the roller cover, eliminating the need for messy paint
trays for refills. The roller is perfect for medium-sized projects, and the extended handle lets
you reach 8' ceilings with ease. This paint roller can help customers in doing painting works
without need to go through out so many processes such as need to roll the roller at the paint
tray.
The current stage of this The SMART Roller is in Pre-Research and Development process.
Our product is an improvement of an existing products. We had done an addition to existing
line as a subset to the new product line by perhaps targeted to different market segments.
We also had done some improvements and revisions to existing products as we want to new
products to replace existing products with more convenient and functional enhancements.
We also done a cost reduction by offer no new benefits to the consumer other than possibly
reduced price and provides enormous added-value to the firm.
A new product development (NPD) is the complete process of taking new product in
the market. Mainly, there are 3 stages in entrepreneurial that are idea search and generation
process, idea screening and market survey.
The idea search and generation process are the first stage in this process. Ideas are
generated to solve a problem arise, or to meet some demand and need. Currently, the problem
that we perceive is people who need to hurry in painting. Especially for the workers, they need
to painting at least 4 times faster. Therefore, we want to come out with a painting tools that
will ease people to doing painting works without need to go through out so many processes.
We name it as Smart Roller painting.

The second stage we precede the idea evaluation and development phase. This stage
includes research and development, concept testing and test marketing. We will discuss about
the structure of the product, together with its function and application of technology. The
design team will view our ideas and will give their opinion on how applicable and reliable it is.
it will also add little improvement in term of quality as that is their expertise.
For the market survey, Puncak alam is chosen as a target because the area is new industrial
area which is suitable to develop the company among them. We also believe when we build
company around them, we can manage gain profit for our company. From our survey, we
found that the area has many hardware shops.
The selection of our area is suitable because we select town area as our location. The location
is nearer to road and easy to transport our product to customer. Customer also easily comes
by itself to our company if they want to buy the product.
A. Analyze
Basic need
RUBONI ENTERPRISE fulfill customers’ needs to save their time in finishing their
painting works using this roller and others. Nowadays, new product are trends that apply to all
people in order to make work easy. This is relevant due to this product free up human capital
to focus on other tasks such as quality control, cleanliness, and customer interaction. Thus,
this indirectly makes them want to use this smart roller.
B. Apply
Innovation potential
Based on the observation, it can be seen that we can make an innovation potential in
order to attract more customer to buy and therefore increase the sales of the company.
Innovation potentials that can be used and manipulate are such as demonstrate the used of
smart roller to customer. This will make the product to be universal for the user. Besides that,
we can also try to make a product that roller with spatial guard. It because when painting the
ceiling, spatial guard will prevent the paint fall to the user when painting. By using the
innovation potential, we can make the user to feel confident and happy.

3.3.3 PRODUCT DESIGN/FEATURE
- Each parts of the roller had been designed by qualified designer by their own
specification. That roller it is really suitable for painting any building.
- Paint tube of this roller can be covering up to 70 ft. per fill. For use with oil and
latex (water-based) coatings.

- The user protection has been top priority from any miss function of roller by using
this product is not easy mess and dirty.

Design idea:
Have fill tube that can easily flow the paint to the roller without need to use tray.
Need to roll the roller into the tray in order to absorb the paint to the roller

In order to overcome all the problems above, we had introduced a new concept of
paint roller with many convenient features for the users. This new product is called
The SMART Roller.

3.3.5 TEST MARKETING
Our first target market to test is to building painting. We will suggest smart roller to be
used in a certain period of time and analyze the reliability and applicability of the product. We
will also have held or participate in technology exhibition to promote our product to customer.
The respond of the entire target will be noted and collected to be analyzed. The result of the
analysis is important as it can become our secret weapon to attract many investors in this
project.
4.0 CONCLUSION
This study has shown that the Smart Roller is better than the paint roller. The Smart
Roller uses less amount of paint compared with a paint roller. Painters using Smart Roller also
do not have to do a lot of movements compared with painting using the paint roller. The Smart
Roller also reduced the time duration needed to paint compared to the conventional paint
roller. By using the Smart Roller in the construction, it is for sure will save a lot amount of
money in buying paint, paying painters salary and also reimbursing painters medical expenses
caused by injuries. The Smart Roller is the future of painting in the construction business as it
is proven to be more efficient compared to the conventional paint roller.
