Student Information and Instructional Data Self-Evaluation

These students are average students. They are on reading level L, which is 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
appropriate for their grade level. They are able to read and self-correct, read with 10
good fluency, and use pictures for help. They are working on reading with more
emotion, longer phrases, and larger amounts of text. They will be reading level M.
Guided Reading – 15 minutes Reflection
LSS: RI.2.2 Identify the main topic of a multi-paragraph text as well as the focus of
specific paragraphs within the text.

To start this portion, start by looking at the table of contents and ask the students to
make some predictions. Then let the students flip through the book and look at some
of the picture. Give time for them to comment on pictures. Also get them to look at
the structure of the text. Remind them about the importance of headings. Talk about
how to read the chart on page 4. Lastly, look at the five words in the glossary so that
students will be prepared for the reading.
Now let them start reading with their whisper phones. Pay attention, take notes, and
zone in on each student as needed.
Word Study – 5-7 minutes

Prefix: comes at the beginning: in-
Incomplete, incorrect, invisible, increase
Suffix: comes at the end: -ly
Safely, happily, suddenly, quickly, neatly
Let the students use the white board to come up with and write 2-3 words with either
this prefix or suffix
See if the students can find an example of the suffix in the text? Quickly p. 3, 4,
likely p. 4, easily p. 4, supply p. 5, only p.11,
Writing About Reading – 5-7 minutes

LSS:W.2.1 Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are
writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking
words (e.g. because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a
concluding statement or section.
Give the students a blank sheet of paper and give them time to write a few sentences
about the book.
