Syllabus of Social System

Introduction
In this course, students expect to understand concepts related to social systems such
as social structure, social mobility, social processes / changes, political and social
systems, social conflict, social stratification, community typology and social issues. The
various concepts will be studied, especially their relevance to the planning and
development process.

1. Social Structure
2. Typology of Society
3. Process / social change / social mobility
4. Social institutions (Institutional and social systems)
5. Social Conflict
6. Social Disorganization (Damage to social organization and its effects such as
crime, segregation, etc.)
7. Urban Social Groups (Urban sub culture, race, etc.)

Competencies :
1. Students understand basic concepts in social science.
2. Students understand the relationship of social science in development planning.

Evaluation Criteria :
Take Home Test : 20 % (Mind Mapping Teori Sosial)
Review Jurnal : 30 % (Critics and Ideas for solution)
Visual Presentation : 20 % (poster)
Short Movie : 30 % (human and development)

Rules:
 Students with less than 80% attendance during the lectures will not be given a
mark for 3rd and 4th Evaluation.
 Students who conducted an unethical practice during the coursework (i.e. giving
false signature on each week’s list of attendees) will be given a penalty of Not
Passing the course.
 No remidial at last week of this course.

1. Critical Review Jurnal


This task aims to analyze articles in a journal or other scientific writing form.
This task is done individually. On this assignment student is required to:
 Determine the problems of development in the community
 Determine the main ideas in conducting social analysis on the development
process that occurred.
 Make critics and idea for solution
The report format is a paper with the reporting framework as follows:
• Article Title
• Main idea in conducting social analysis on the development process that
occurred.
• Critics and Idea for solution

The assessment criteria of this task are:


• The suitability of selected journals with social system topics (10%)
• Explanation of the main idea in the article (25%)
• Critics (35%)
• The idea for solution (30%)

2. Short Movie dan Poster


This task aims to apply theories, analyze the observations of cases of community
groups and their activities in development. This observation is required to be done
directly by taking certain points relating to the topic of social systems in the city of
Surabaya. Example of this task topic is as follows:
 Structuring of river border and its impact on community groups in the area
around the river.
 Closure of Dolly and its impact on surrounding communities.
 Construction of one gate system in the residential area to the surrounding
community.
 Development of Teluk Lamong to fishermen community
 Improvement of village and social change of society
 Development of city parks on community life style.
 Development of free education facilities (training centers, bilingual centers,
mobile libraries) and their impact on social characteristics of the community.

This task is done in groups with the number of students in one group is 3-4 student. On
this assignment student is required to:
 Determine the topic of a particular group of people
 Determine what aspects of development will be addressed to the group
 Determine the main ideas and ideas details in conducting social analysis on the
development process that occurred.

The assessment criteria of this task are:


• Video duration of approximately 5 minutes (5%)
• Suitability of selected topics (5%)
• Coverage of social characteristics and their relationship to development (30%)
• The main ideas and ideas of details in increasing the development impact on the
social groups discussed (40%)
• Creativity (10%)
• Attractive and informative (10%)
