I. Observation #1:
a. Setting
a. Kindergarten
III. Setting:
a. 1 Educator
b. 1 Observer (me)
c. 7 Female Students
d. 3 Male Students
IV. Pre-Observation:
a. I was aware of the layout out of public school classrooms and college classrooms.
The desks are usually in rows with a larger desk for the educator at the front or
V. Data:
a. The so called “runway” we discussed in class is clearly seen in this classroom.
The location of computers is close to the quiet writing station. There are many
places to sit and work. Restrooms are readily available for students to use.
VI. Analysis:
a. The students come running in fast down the “runway”. They usually go straight
b. During their “quite time” the students write stories and are seated two per table.
During other times they utilize objects from specific shelves for math, science,

can see items such as the popsicle sticks used to count the days.
e. The noise level usually stays low. The computers generate some laughter and
music, but usually are not an issue unless a student is writing at the table nearby.
VII. Recommendations:
a. I would move the writing table away from the noisy computers. This would also

never knew layout could make such a change to a class. Currently I am retaking
intro to sociology and the first thing we do every class is rearrange the tables into
a circle. This circle eliminates the teachers desk and forces everyone to be
