PLASTER ANIMAL SCULTURE

Objective: To apply students understanding of a three-dimensional form and expose them


to new materials. Students will build an animal sculpture using wire, newspaper, plaster,
and papier-mache.

Requirements: 1. Cannot be less than 4 inches in height and 3 inches


in width
2. Cannot be over 13 inches in height and 8 inches in width
3. Must be realistic. Must be a real animal.
4. Must be completely painted to incorporate a range of values and
textures.
5. No two students should have the same animal

Instructions:
1. Sketch 2 different animals from 3 different viewpoints. 6 sketches
total. Min. size: 4X5
2. Chose one animal to use for sculpture. Use wire techniques to
build a skeleton or frame.
3. Bulk up the animal using newspaper and tape: this step is
important to make sure the animal is shaped correctly
4. Cover everything in plaster wraps, let dry.
5. Cover plaster in papier-mache, let dry.
6. Paint animal using acrylic.
7. Critique and turn in.
