The data shown on this graph is to represent the

different types of waste disposed in the community. As
you can see most of the people dispose solid and
organic waste while only a small amount of people
dispose of organic waste.

Burning burying Disposal service 5 recycle

The graph above shows the different ways in which the

resident of their garbage. Ten residents of the
community burn their garbage, this contributes to air
pollution. Five of them bury their garbage. Another five
of the residents use the disposal service this is a very
good way of disposing your garbage. Five residents
recycle their garbage this is another good way to get rid
of your garbage.

Once weekly Monthly Every 2 week Randomly

In the survey carried out the researcher was able to

obtain the information on how frequent the garbage get
collected. Six residents of the researcher’s community
garbage gets collected once a week. As shown in the
graph above five resident’s garbage gets collected on a
monthly basis, this is unhealthy and it also forces the
resident to participate in land pollution. Every two week
four resident’s garbage gets collected. Ten resident’s
garbage gets collected randomly.

12
f) Three problems that are associated with garbage
disposal in the community.
Three problems are:

 The way of which the residents dispose of their

garbage- the survey that was carried out, it has
shown that most of the residents burn their
garbage. This is a problem because it
contributes to air pollution and global
warming.

 The frequency of the garbage being collected-

some of the residents garbage are being
collected monthly, this is really unhealthy
because this will attract animals like cockroach,
house flies, rats etc. These animals can cause
sickness. Also there is a large amount of
residents’ garbage being collected randomly,
this is bad because you are never sure when
the garbage truck I going to come and if you
keep your garbage too long insects will get
attracted to it, thus causing an unhealthy
environment.

13
 The garbage collection system- in the
researcher’s community the garbage collection
system is not reliable, as you have seen in the

graph above (How frequent does the garbage

get collected?) only a small amount of
residents’ garbage gets collected on a weekly
basis while a large amount of residents
garbage gets collected randomly.

g) One type of garbage that can be recycled and

explain the benefit of recycling it.

One of the garbage that can be recycled is solid

waste (plastic bottles) .One of the benefit of
recycling plastic bottles is to reduce pollution,
meaning when we send them to be recycled we
don’t have to burn them or throw it on them at any
roadside, thus reducing land and air pollution.
When we recycle bottles they are reprocessed in to
new products.

h) Suggest three strategies that the residents can

implement so their environment con stay healthy.
14
Three strategies the residents can use are:

 To cover all exposed bins to protect it from

strays.
 Use the garbage collection system provided to
the community by the N.D.C.

 The residents can create a clean-up campaign

and educate others about proper disposal of
garbage.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion to the topic Garbage Disposal a lot of
knowledge was gained on how garbage was
disposed in general in the community.
